    WOW! This really looks special. No crowds. Night sky. Intimate lighting. I forgot how large the Colosseum is. I was reminded by seeing the wide walk ways behind Elyssa, as she spoke. Reasons to return to Eternal Rome.

    I am so grateful I found this channel -we just came back from a week trip to Rome. We booked the Pristine Sistine tour and a Coliseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill tour-and I am so glad we did! We bypassed lines with incredible and knowledgeable guides.
    We even took the train from Roma Termini and did a day trip to Naples. Thank you for your thorough insight Elyssa -we couldn’t have done it without you. Ciao!

    Really glad to have stumbled upon your videos. Helpful, straightforward, and to the point. Question about booking tours in Italian for someone who speaks zero Italian - just wanted to ensure that the guides would not be offended by this and/or this isn't frowned upon. Thank you!

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks so much! I'm really glad you enjoy my videos and find them helpful and easy to follow.
      Many people book tours in Italian because there is usually more availability for them than for the tours with an English-speaking guide. I think many guides are used to this. I've never heard anyone say they had an Italian-speaking guide that was annoyed by it. Go right ahead if that is what works for you!

    Thank you so much for explaining why this has been so confusing and why the prices seem to be all over the place. I'm taking my family and I didn't want to revisit the Colosseum myself but I am now excited about the night tour option which sounds way better than just walking around the upper levels. I've heard that the tour guides in the Colosseum aren't great and people wish the third party tour guides could do the whole tour, so that might be worth it for some people. Also, some of the third party tours include a VR part outside, which doesn't sound appealing to me as I get motion sickness easily but might be really neat for some people.

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for watching and for letting me know you find my videos helpful. Yes, I think you will love the night tour. It's so different from visiting during the day.
      Yes, as I've said in other videos, the guides at the Colosseum can be great or not, it's hit or miss. They are employees there, as opposed to being hired by an outside tour company whose goal is to run a business and keep it profitable. Outside tour companies have more interest in hiring excellent and entertaining guides, which is also why it costs more. And yes, for daytime tours, a colosseum guide will only give you a tour of the Colosseum, whereas an outside tour company will usually also take you to the Roman Forum / Palatine Hill.
      However, please note that with the night tour, the areas you visit are strictly limited and it also does not include access to the Roman Forum / Palatine Hill, so for this tour, there is no difference between where a tour guide can take you when they come from the Colosseum or whether you book with a third party.
      To my knowledge almost no companies include the VR part. I think only one or two companies offers that.

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      May can be cooler than you might think:
      th-cam.com/video/6aaBZibWnEU/w-d-xo.html
      But no, I would not say it will cold enough to make a night visit at all uncomfortable. I've done this visit numerous times throughout the year and never thought it felt dank at all.
      And while we can get mosquitos in Rome in the summer, I usually don't feel bothered by them in May and I certainly have never felt bothered by mosquitos inside the Colosseum on any of the levels including the underground.
      In short - go for it!

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Visiting the Colosseum at night is one way to beat the heat, but just remember it's not a regular tour of the Colosseum - you don't visit the regular levels, and a visit to the Roman Forum / Palatine Hill is not included.
      But the night tour is wonderful and ALSO a great way to beat the heat - so you'll have to decide whether you want to see more of the Colosseum and also visit the Roman Forum / Palatine Hill which would mean you'd need to go during the day.
