    The day we visited the Roman Forum n Colosseum there was the Roman Marathon going on. We didn’t get any bus or cab to take us from the Capuchin Crypt to Colosseum. We walked all the way and found the short cut from Piazza Venezia was closed to general traffic. We were asked to take the other route when I suddenly spotted the Pillars from the Roman Forum and we entered through the Mamertine Prison. It was absolutely a blessing as we thought we will never be able to reach on time for our Colosseum booked time.
    We walked all the way straight to the Colosseum and enjoyed the Roman Forum to the fullest.

    Love your no nonsense, non Instagram-y, local resident knowledge-based videos.
    Years and years ago (decades, really), back when the Roman Forum was free, there was a great entrance right at the corner of where Via Monte Tarpeo turns into Via del Tempio di Giove. You walked down a few steps, through the turnstile and then you were on the ancient Clivus Capitolinus and walked down into the Roman Forum and thru the Arch of Septimus Severus. They closed it years ago when they started charging to enter, but I see no reason why they couldn't open that one again too...

      I know the entrance you mean. It's still sort of there, or at least you can tell that it was once an entrance. I'd love for them to turn that one back into an entrance. Maybe they will one day. It seems to me that they are working hard to make sure this park is a great experience for everyone. Thanks a lot for watching and commenting!

    GREAT video!!! We will definitely use your tips for quick early entry. I remember in ye olden days when the forum was free. We got there at about 7am and literally had it all to ourselves. But there is so much more excavated and included that I am super excited to get back. I think we will skip the colosseum and focus on the less touristy stuff so in 20 years we can again talk about all the stuff we saw in the new ye olden days.

    I watched a lot of your videos before our trip just last week. It’s so very helpful! After we had our colosseum tour with a tour guide, she then guided us towards roman forum. We used the entrance closest to the colosseum. It was so hot in there, middle of the day, that we just have to leave. I was hoping to use the via foro romano exit that was close to our hotel but it was hard to find. 2 employees gave various instructions (some lost in translation) and there were no signs. So in the end we chose to exit the same way we came in. It would have been great if there were exit signs or maybe we just missed it. Brain was fried in the heat.

      If you open Google maps and type in "Mouth of Truth" and look for walking directions from "Palatine Hill", it will show you the exit on via di San Gregorio. Technically, the exit at Via Foro Romano is closer, but it's leaving the Roman Forum specifically. To leave the Palatine Hill, you need to take the exit at via di San Gregorio.

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you, that's very kind of you. Yes, the Roma Pass includes the Colosseum / Roman Forum / Palatine Hill as ONE of its sites, so if you use it to enter the Colosseum as one of your free sites, you can still visit the Roman Forum / Palatine Hill on that same ticket, meaning you don't need to use another space on the Roma Pass to get you in as a free site, because the Roman Forum / palatine Hill is included with your Colosseum ticket.

      @Romewise  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for following! I made a map of all the entrances. It's linked in the description.
      The Palatine is a hill and you'll have to at least climb a slope to visit it. Maybe the easiest way is to enter on via di San Gregorio and then walk to the left and take the long way up, not via the steps but via a walking path that slowly slopes uphill.
      Hope that helps!

    Excellent information! I think we will go for the entry at Trajans Forum when we go in September. Two questions:
    1. I think you said there was no ticket office at that entry? Where does one get tickets? Purchase online?
    2. Is it always a "three in one" ticket? We are only visiting the Forum and Palatine hill.

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you!
      If you don't want to visit the Colosseum, you can purchase a Roman Forum SUPER pass:
      th-cam.com/video/zfHjFPua7W0/w-d-xo.html
      There are a total of 3 ticket offices at the Roman Forum / Palatine Hill, and I shared them in this video. There is also a link in the description to a Google map that shows you where these ticket offices are. Trajan's Forum is only an entrance/exit but not a ticket office.
      And yes, I think it's best to purchase online anyway. You skip any lines onsite, and you can then enter wherever you want, without worrying about having to enter close to a ticket office.
      Hope that helps!

    We just returned from Rome and had used the advice on Rome Wise's videos on how to avoid the main entrance we used the third entrance she mentions (at Via Cavour), and literally walked right in. The stop for security was all of two minutes...while thousands of people were at the main entrance! Unfortunately this via was not yet available, and with the construction barriers, ended up at the false entrance (that leading to the church) she mentions in this video. We used other suggestions, such as the information on the museum of inscriptions at the Baths of Diocletian mentioned in another Rome Wise video. Can you buy colosseum arena tickets or attic tickets in person at one of those tickets booth? Is the tickets you buy in person also valid for 24 hours?

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In theory, there are always some same-day tickets available. Even the Parco Colosseo officially says that. The reality is that every time I've asked in person (I visit often), I am told there are no tickets for the arena or attico for that day.
      Typically, you can fairly easily get same-day tickets for standard entry only. And even those run out.
      Given the demand, the only way to be sure to get these high-request tickets is to buy them in advance.
      All Colosseum tickets work like this - you MUST book a date and time for the Colosseum. Then, you must go in at THAT time (you have about 10-15 minutes' leeway on either side of that time but no more). Then, you have 24 hours on either side of THAT ticket to visit the Roman Forum / Palatine Hill as a single-entry (you can't visit either site more than once per ticket.)

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would recommend the entrance at Trajan's Forum. Except for climbing down some steps at the beginning just to get in (I show the steps in the video), it's all flat from there. Also, at the new entrance I showed at via Foro Romano, once you go down the slightly inclined ramp, it's also completely flat after that. Those are my two best suggestions for the situation you describe.
