      Muddy Waters!
I play a B16-ized Tele with Fender Texas Special pickups. I string 12 or 13 flatwounds (Pyramid Gold!!!) and found that C standard tuning works really well for this axe strung this way. I have the Oake-Griggs 4-way switch too. Tele pickups sound great with all amounts of fuzz and overdrive. Bridge pickup has huge girth by itself. Vintage Fender guitars are perfectly adaptable to heavy music.

@@claesvanoldenphatt9972 Sup dude, tell me something. I have a guitar with a Bigsby and it doesn't keep tuning like EVER. Also, how you deal with the noise? My tele is awesome, but after a fuzz, a boost and an overdrive, it sounds like a storm is raging on my amp.

The thing with the Telecaster Deluxe, the one the guitarist from Bongripper uses, is they have Wide Range humbuckers, which are amazing cause they're the perfect middle ground between humbuckers and single coils. They are more similar to two telecaster pickups wired in series, instead of the regular humbucker which is more similar to a P90.
So they have more attack than the regular humbucker, and a wider range both in lows and highs, as the name implies. They're my favourite pickups.

I feel like people dismiss single coils as sounding “small”, but what they miss is that due to how expressive single coils are, it means that your tone is only as powerful as your playing. It all translates through from your hands much more clearly, so you can really get some expressive and crushing sound.

Chris Spencer from Unsane and The Cutthroats 9 plays some really, really heavy riffs on a tele. I think he just goes direct into an old Marshall. Also, I think I’ve seen Dylan Carlson play a telecaster or a baritone tele or something that resembles a tele, but that’s a hazy memory, as all Earth memories should be.
The space rock part you played in the middle of the vid and the doom riffs at the end (second pedal especially) sounded great.

I think early Tele's had different wiring as well; you get a tone cut with the selector in the neck position, tone knob give it a more low-endy (technical term) feel, apparently it's called the "dark circuit", middle is neck w/o the cut and the bridge position gives you both p-ups at the same time with the tone as a blend between the two (0 for neck and vice versa) which I always thought was quite cool. There are so many Tele players to choose a favourite but a high mention has to go to James Burton.

In my opinion, most of the modern “metal” guitars have pick ups that are very high output and often times they have floating bridges. Neither one in my opinion is great for doom. I think a string through body is best for resonance and Ideally for doom or stoner rock you want medium output pick ups. We’re not playing super tight tremolo picked riffs nor are we dive bombing with a Floyd Rose.

This is what pisses me off about modern metal and all the genres bullshit. If your band gets labelled to a genre, you can’t play what you want. It was all just metal when I was young. Then middle class nerds got into it and they, all being “on the spectrum”, started making lists, didn’t they?

Hey man. Watching here in Huntsville Alabama. Love this channel so fucking much! I have been obsessed with listening and playing doom for years. Doom and stoner rock are types of music that come most naturally to me. No matter what I sit down to play I always end up with that vibe lol. But when I think of telecaster style guitars in heavier music I have to go with one of my favorite bands, Baroness. John Baizley has played G&L ASATs for years now and recently has moved over to strats and jazz masters. The other guitarist who is the newest member to the band is Gina Gleason. She plays a white American standard tele and also has a custom G&L ASAT when they put fuzzes through those guitars it is a killer sound live. Lots of clarity and cuts through the mix beautifully. They are one of the lightest bands I like but if you ever get a chance to see them live then you have to go. The sound is awesome!

Fender fanboy here, haha. I use a telecaster in one of my bands, while the other guitar player uses a les paul - both through Orange TH50 amps. We play something between post metal and sludge and usually tune to either CGCFAC or AGCFAC. Gotta say, I really like how those two completely different guitar sounds balance each other so well...my chimey, bell-like tone cuts through wonderfully especially during leads, while the les paul gives all the fat and beefiness underneath. The slightly longer scale length also helps a lot with all the tuning changes, this guitar really feels like it can handle everything. Great video!

When I was much younger (I'm 44) I thought and totally bought into the wives tale stories of certain guitars being used only for certain types/genres of music. At some point I realized that way of thinking was BS. I've now seen players using a Tele for just about every style of playing and it sounds just as good as any other brand and or style. Sure a Tele still sounds amazing playing blues and country licks and rightfully so but the Tele can be a very versatile sounding guitar with the right setup of equipment.
Favorite guitarist who used a Tele? Terry Kath, Jeff Beck and John 5

I'm not actually a fan of the earlier fuzzed out stuff (I'm actually not really a doom/drone fan in general honestly. Yeah, I'll show myself out 🙀) but the Hex album absolutely changed my life and I've loved everything hes done since.

Im Levi Riffee from here in Aurora , Colorado. Jimmy page is the one that really got me into the telecaster. At first I never was aware he was using his now Iconic telecaster on the first Led Zeppelin album. Its just amazing. Also I own to telecaster style guitars . One is from Jericho Guitars which is called the fusion. Its very heavy cuz its a Walnut body guitar. but its one of the best guitars I played. It has seymour Duncan 59 neck and JB bridge pickups both with coil splitting both with 2 Volume and Tone Controls. Neck is 25.75 inch scale. Then my other one is from hardluckkings which is black with rosewood board , alder body, also company made Alnico 5 high output single coil pickups with shared volume and tone control . 25.5 in scale. Both my guitars Doom very well . Im proud to have both of them.

Absolutely! Tele’s are great for this genre. My favorite guitar player Steph Carpenter from Deftones, has been playing 7-8 string T-types for years.Rabea Massaad from Toska has an awesome T-type sig with a Bare Knuckle Warpig in the bridge, and it makes for some brutal riffage. I also got just an American tele special a couple years ago that I use for a lot of genres of music. It’s one of my most versatile guitars. I find teles have this chug that you just can’t get out of a strat, or an SG. Though, I love my Gibson Sg just as much. It’s just the tele is great for heavy riffs that thing is just a rock/metal machine.
