All male kpop idols have to serve in the military before they turn 29. They can be exempt if they have serious health issues. All of BTS is gonna me serving in, I think, a months time.

@@JCSquad 3 BTS members (Jin, Hoseok and Yoongi) are already in the military, it's been some time too, but we just got the news (2 days ago I think) that the rest (Namjoon, Jimin, Taehyung and Jungkook) are also enlisting.

Not "all male kpop idols", just male Korean citizens. BM is a male kpop idol and he's ethnically Korean, but since he was born in America and isn't a Korean citizen, he didn't have to do mandatory military service. Same with kpop idols from Japan, China, Thailand, etc.

all men in Korea HAVE to serve before a certain age. u can get exempted for health issues, or if u don't carry Korean citizenship even if u r still korean ( so most foreign members of any groups won't serve like felix/chan from Stray Kids 9australian), or mark (Canadian)/Johhny (American) from NCT, BM himself wont serve (American)..ect) and the time u serve is different for each branch, its usually about 1 1/2-maybe 2 max. And Ik they add some new exceptions a while ago as well
Also to add on to this. Men who are Olympians with gold metals or esports teams with medals or honors also don't have to serve. For some health exemptions they tend to be exempted from more strenuous duties and instead are placed in more innocuous jobs like desk duties

the final 4 bts members (namjoon, jimin, taehyung, and jungkook) that haven’t enlisted yet just started the process a few days ago 😞 the 4 of them are enlisting in December, so none of them will be active until Jin who first enlisted completes his enlistment period and returns. The time period is 18 months so they won’t be a full group until mid 2025.
Military service is mandatory for almost 2 years. Half of BTS is already in the military and the rest announced they're going soon.
All male K-pop idols have to go to military but if their non Korean for example NCT has foreign members who are Japanese,Chinese,they don’t go since they not Korean citizens. But people who are Korean American can choose to.

Korean laws says you have tonhave SERIOUS health issues, or a gold medal to.not gonto the military. Now is only 18 months. It used to be 3 years of mandatory service for every Korean men. And by serious issues I mean, like, not having a leg. For example Heechul from super junior has screws in his leg for a car accident the group had, and he still had to do it.
For people with health issues that still have to do it, they do less strenuous jobs, like Shownu from Monsta X who has a shoulder injury and has a problem with his cornea in one eye, he did social work as a sports instructor for kids.
