yayyyy! y'all should check out the opening ceremony for last years worlds finals too!! also the teasers/trailers are pretty dang good especially this year's T1 vs Gen.G and last year's T1 vs JDG trailers!
The prize money of 445.000 for 5 people may not seem much, but Faker ( the most known league player) roughly makes 6 million USD yearly. (I just read, RIOT now also pays all the professional players a salary of roughly 75.000 a year that's without any other prize money or anything) So a little backstory on this world championship, the winning team (T1) and their best player (Faker, won his 5th world title this year Don't know if you're interested but this is the reason this team is so hyped and Faker is so popular ( by the way, in China/Korea and other countries league is WAY bigger, this world championship final had over 6.9 million viewers, and that's not with china's numbers). 1. They have NEVER lost a Best of 5 against the LPL (chinese region) at the world championship ( 26 games in total, they won 21 of those) 2. Each region has their own qualifier league, T1 had a VERY rough qualifying this year and if they did not win their series against KT (this came down to 1 game), they would not even BE at the world championship this year. 3. Faker himself won his first world title in 2013, he just won his 5th in 2024 4. The moment in the finals teaser you see him feeling his wrist where you said '' get his wrist going'', is actually different, in the 2023 LCK season Faker was suffering from a wrist injury, and had to step out for a couple of months. (Fun fact: Fakers right hand is insured for A LOT of money) 5. To just emphasize how insane this is what Faker is doing and if u want to have some fun, google the ages of all the other competitors at the worlds stage ( The whole of T1 at maximum is 22), most of them are 20 through 24, he is in gaming terms '' far beyond'' his prime, and he is still competing at the maximum level. 6. Faker was the first inductee for the Hall of Legends ( Hall of Fame for league), here is the video if you'd like to watch it, to see all of his achievements: th-cam.com/video/xdfVomq3lAc/w-d-xo.html 7. In the first trailer, the opposing team (GenG) is stated to have won the LCK in 2022,2023 and 2024, each time also beating T1, even in the World Championship 2023, they beat T1 in the swiss stage, who won worlds? T1 still. The crazy part is, in a best of 5 T1 is just insane at worlds. 8. This T1 roster is already called the greatest roster to ever exist, and they're still going.
The reason why the prize pool is that small is because, when you win each player of the team gets a champion skin of their choice made and a20% of sales of that skin then goes to the team and that is where a lot of money comes from.
You were right, in the second song the wolf represents kindred. She’s the embodiment of death in lore and she’s a lamb who travels with a wolf. They were once whole but they spilt into two so that they could always have a friend.
And yeah LoL was never about prize pool, its about the prestigie and being the best, also some players have salaries in the 7 digits so again they're not too concerned about the prize pool
the two singer for "Still here" were dressed as Morgana and Kayle from the cinematic the song is from and its so fitting for this championship as T1 (faker team) are still here for the 3rd time in a row in the finals and faker after 11 years in the sport is a finalist and his 5th trophy. Also makes the "Heavy is the crown" fit amazingly well
The singers in the second song represent Morgana and Kayle from the 2024 season opening cinematic "Still Here". The event took place at the O2 arena in London. League doesn't do big prize pools, the players make their money through the salary. The intent is to make it a consistent career, rather than tournament dependent.
The prize money isn't what pays them the most. It's their salaries. Faker as the most paid player is on a """low""" contract of 6 million a year. I say low because he has denied much higher offers just to stay with his current team T1
15:23 what ever u googled might only be the base. There are also worlds skins and stuff to buy ingame players, and the profit off of those specific things, go to the winners too
this felt like watching a reaction to esports from 10 years ago. nowadays most people talk about the graphics or the music or the performance, but you guys just now seem to be finding out that nerds took over. yes it's bigger than most other sports in the world and has millions of dollars invested into it's production.
For context the winners of Worlds each player also gets to pick a champion in the game that will get a skin and 25% of the revenue earned from the skin goes to the player. This means that Faker now will have 5 total worlds skins (he has won 5/13 worlds) which he gets paid for yearly which is probably an insane amount of money.
Its always funny to me how people that are not into e-sport underestimate just how big it has become over the last ten or so years. Love those reactions.
There's many other Worlds opening ceremonies from previous years, and they pretty much are all this good, this year's is amongst the best by the community
Oh we went there last week haha. The games were really intense, but my favourite part of the whole event was the fan fest in front of the O2 arena. We got to meet some players and streamers, win some prizes, play some games, see cosplayers, overall a really nice experience for a League fan.
The level of stress when playing on a big stage like this with tense game conditions is not something everyone can handle. And Faker is the one who handles it best, the one who keeps a cool head and clutches the best in lol
Y'all probably don't know anything about LoL but if y'all just watched a blind reaction to just a finals highlight reel I'd find that very entertaining. It was an insane finals.
Worlds is always an amazing time. Doesnt matter if you’re a hardcore or a casual, you are in for a treat watching the best of best battling it out. What’s amazing as well are the narratives, the stories they tell about the teams. If you watch trailers for the knockout stages, it’s so cinematic and well written. The dudes on the mercedes/redbull jackets are T1. Back to back champions and of course they have the face of not just LOL but esports in general Faker.
Regarding the talk you guys had, you're absolutely right. However, the 450k they won is the guaranteed minimum. They also get a % from the in-game cosmetic sales from the event. They have in many cases multi-million $ contracts to play for the teams too. Then there's sponsors too.
The team in the mercedes jackets are at their 3rd consecutive finals, and won the year prior. Faker, their midlaner, is also known as the Unkillable Demon King, and is the GOAT of League of Legends. The peak viewership of the final was 6.9M without including China. The reason the winner prize isn't so high is the players get their own skins in the game and get a percentage of the earnings from those skins. Which is in the millions.
Funnily enough, the guy who did the last (15?) SuperBowl half time shows did this years worlds ceremony too, idk if he has done other worlds opening ceremonies before.
All of those Players play on National Leagues wich is kinda of a Franchise System u have to buy in your Spot (for around 500k per spot I dont know the exact amount but ist a very big price). All the players in those leagues get payed thousands of the contracts plus they get Prices for winning Winter/Spring/Summer Split plus The Season wich u participate in if u where good enough on those 3 splits. There is also 1 international MidSeasonInvitational (MSI), wich also tagged with a Price Tag, plus the Winner is qualified for Worlds. The best players make hundred of thousands only from the contract. The Prize Money is usually only on top but the Org's get the most pay Cut as far as I know. Apparently Faker is a big stand out making Millions, he's the Goat of the Game he has Sponsor deals on top with commercials etc. The Korean league is the biggest and those players get treated like the Idols there (So they r Popstars with big commercials etc.)
The prize money / pay is actually a very interesting topic. 8+ years ago the prize money for these tournaments was larger, but there were very few other ways to get paid, so it created a very feast or famine situation among pro players. After a pro player killed themself from the stress of overworking and needing to win certain tournaments in order to support himself, huge regulations came in that standardized and evened out the pay and treated the pro players as people with full time jobs. They receive salaries now, and things like sponsorships, prize money, etc. is just extra incentives. IMO it was a very good, foundational change to eSports.
Fun fact: Faker actually did clutch up. He lived up to his nickname as the Unkillable Demon King by helping his team wipe out 4 of the enemy team and him walking out of the fight with like 1hp😂
This is the 14th worlds. They started doing opening ceremonies in like 2014. You have 10 more of these (some amazing others ok) to watch lol. Madison beer performs in 2018 btw :D
Please react to Worlds 2024 Cinematic teasers. Even if you were not able to follow the story and journey of these players from the beginning, the teasers were able to capture the juicy bits, emotions and history between the teams.
If you guys want some more esports, I recommend watching the Worlds 2024 teasers! It gets into the storylines between these teams as they face off and is pretty easy to understand even as a complete newbie imo.
The people in the mercedes jacket have been on the worlds final stage for 3 consecutive years and became the champions twice in a row, maybe they are looking more comfortable because it`s their playground haha
Professional E-Sports players earn more from sponsors than the actual prize money for competitive events. Faker has an estimated salary of $6-7M without any sponsors. Mercedes Benz even gave him a new custom "Faker" car. Mastercard has been the major sponsor for Worlds events. So yeah, it's not just a video game now.
The prize money might not be much but the contracts these players have for the teams are insane . Faker is considered the goat at this game and he was one of the first players that had a million dollar contract to play at this game.
prize money from tournaments is more like icing on the cake. The real money is from player salary which could go up to millions of dollars per year for top players
Hey guys! Glad you enjoyed this Opening Ceremony! Quick note, you should know that although is prize money is "not that big", players gets paid all year based on contract terms with their respective team, and if you think about it that way, being in the roster that wins the world indirectly makes your salary grow cause you're a big asset they'll want to keep. Teams gets paid a lot in sponsorship like any other sports, so communication and branding makes most of the money. Worlds is for the glory and the fame and we love it 💪
A big difference between LoL and other Esports is that they make world skins every year for the winning team and they get royalties on them which is a absolutely massive bag cause they sell like crazy
league events have never been about the money, its about the prestige of being the best and having the trophy. Their salaries are crazy they do not care about prize money
The pool for the Worlds 2024 is 2.2 million but the winners do get 400k, among other things like the Trophy, Winners Rings and other content.. Also, this is not to mention the fact players are on a payroll from being signed with a team and get money from sponsors/sponsorships. Faker for example signed for 6 million for 1 year. Another pro (no pun intended) for a pro player is most of them "stream" and since they are relatively famous in their regions, they get decent revenue from that. I saw another comment post this, but I'll say it here anyway. They also get proceeds from people that purchase in game skins and battle passes. Which.. is A LOT of money.
That is only the amount that Riot Games offers, but if we count the bonus, the value increases if you reach the final, as well as winning the championship ring, their contracts with their professional teams, which are thousands or millions of dollars, each one wins a minimum of 4 million. dollars in wrolds if you are from Korea or China whose regions are LCK and LPL
you guys can watch the opening ceremony in the past years. compare to every ceremony in league of legends, the older ceremony didn't mean is bad or boring, the more recent ceremony also didn't mean is good or nice to watch.
They earn much more. Faker earns 6 million salary a year... the winners get their own worlds skin sales and much revenue from others sources too. Winning worlds or even the regional leagues guarantees you to become millionaire, so there is some motivation :D.
It should also be noted that this match holds the most number of audience for an esports match. 6.9million viewers if im not mistaken. This number doesn’t even include China.
the prize is not just the 440k cash prize they also get their own skin line which makes millions / in game emotes, wards... for reference faker has currently 9 in game skins including this worlds, one of them cost 500$ and it sold 2.3M$ in the 1st hour of its release in china alone.

Y'all probably don't know anything about LoL but if y'all just watched a blind reaction to just a finals highlight reel I'd find that very entertaining. It was an insane finals.
7:15 no, thats kayle and morgana, two sisters, you can see them in the cinematic when they fight against aatrox, they are champions from league
Most singers either are big fans of league or have had a part in it in the past so most are very passionate indeed
Now ya'll gotta watch ALL OF THE CEREMONIES
I was there and i felt like a child the entire time. i could not recommend it more.
Worlds production so good many reactors was fooled with the background screen effect that they thought those were real wow.
you guys should def watch the trailers as well, they are crazy
The two girls singing are color matching with the two angels in the call
Worlds is always an amazing time. Doesnt matter if you’re a hardcore or a casual, you are in for a treat watching the best of best battling it out. What’s amazing as well are the narratives, the stories they tell about the teams. If you watch trailers for the knockout stages, it’s so cinematic and well written.
The dudes on the mercedes/redbull jackets are T1. Back to back champions and of course they have the face of not just LOL but esports in general Faker.
the 30 sec countdown into all 3 of you guys just like "hmmm what to do while we wait"
Regarding the talk you guys had, you're absolutely right. However, the 450k they won is the guaranteed minimum. They also get a % from the in-game cosmetic sales from the event. They have in many cases multi-million $ contracts to play for the teams too. Then there's sponsors too.
deffo check out 2019 Worlds Ceremony, it's still the best to me to this day!
7:15 bro you reacted to still here a month ago xD
The finals had approximately 10 million live viewers.
Should have also check out the winning moment of the team!!! Its also EPIC
Please react to Worlds 2024 Cinematic teasers. Even if you were not able to follow the story and journey of these players from the beginning, the teasers were able to capture the juicy bits, emotions and history between the teams.
gotta watch the ceremonies for the other years aswell!
in regards to the singers in the 2nd song its supposed to be kayle and morgana from the music video
Seb: Imagine trying to clutch up
Faker in game4/5: Yes.
watch the worlds 2023 opening cerimony
If you guys want some more esports, I recommend watching the Worlds 2024 teasers! It gets into the storylines between these teams as they face off and is pretty easy to understand even as a complete newbie imo.
The people in the mercedes jacket have been on the worlds final stage for 3 consecutive years and became the champions twice in a row, maybe they are looking more comfortable because it`s their playground haha
Rumor has it that Faker’s annual salary is around 7 billion won. It is 5.26 million dollars.
My GOAT looks clean ✨
Need to watch the Faker introduction into the hall of fame just to understand how amazing his career and impact on the game is and was.
I am not exaggerating when I say you NEED to react to EVERY league of legends cinematic, like right now. they are just THAT good
The real prize to winning world is having your own skin developed and sold along with a cut for each sale
prize money from tournaments is more like icing on the cake.
Worlds is for the glory and the fame and we love it 💪
250 million people watched.
A big difference between LoL and other Esports is that they make world skins every year for the winning team and they get royalties on them which is a absolutely massive bag cause they sell like crazy
league events have never been about the money, its about the prestige of being the best and having the trophy. Their salaries are crazy they do not care about prize money
13:18 "i gotta experience this game bro"
Whos gonna tell him guys ?
Man if you loved this one you guys should also check other years opening ceremony
you should react to all the opening ceremonies for every worlds!
Everyone from 1st to 20th teams gets prize money, not just the first. So the total is around 2.25mill just for the teams
you guys can watch the opening ceremony in the past years. compare to every ceremony in league of legends, the older ceremony didn't mean is bad or boring, the more recent ceremony also didn't mean is good or nice to watch.
Faker being The ultimate goat The Unkillable Demon King and the best LOL pro player in the world.
You guys should react to some games in the T1 vs BLG finals, the two teams you guys saw in this opening ceremony
Let's watch the 2023 Worlds Opening Ceremony !
For reference, Faker's assumed salary (excluding all prize money and other sponsors) was 6 million USD and that's probably lowballing it.
RIOT was actually losing money with their Worlds shenanigans. but it is a necessity to keep the ESports running.
Faker is the team captain, btw!
Yall gotta realize there are way more characters than just jinx, vi and cait. Over 100+ characters in the game cmon now
the prize is not just the 440k cash prize they also get their own skin line which makes millions / in game emotes, wards...
for reference faker has currently 9 in game skins including this worlds, one of them cost 500$ and it sold 2.3M$ in the 1st hour of its release in china alone.
With the prize money they are also on contracts. Faker made 6mill this year on his contract alone.
