Over the years I've met with Jay outside the venue always talking and visiting with the fans. Every time I run into him, he is a straight up, down to earth guy. No big ego. No pretentious, or condescending EVER! He is fucking awesome as a band member and person all around!
I went to High School with him and Greg. Didn't know him though. Met him in Seattle in 93 when they played at the Moore Theater. I went with someone else that we had gone to HS with. He was cool af. Gave us all access passes and we were right on stage with them while they played. Excellent show. And yes, Jay is a hottie.
jay is so i dont know how to explain... PERFECT maybe.... when i saw them in their concert in Argentina (8-10-11) i just couldn't keep my eyes off jay.. i don't know that night i catched my atention.. I LOVE HIM!
Yeah New America was one of their lesser popular albums, although I still think it was highly underrated. There Will Be A Way, Hopeless Housewife and Don't Sell Me Short are definitely among my favorite BR songs. Great melodies. Cheers!
I love how the punk rock artists are heavily inspired by bands that are not punk rock in any sense of the word. I listen to punk almost exclusively, but most of my favorite bands are not punk bands. It's weird how that works out.
Jordan Cashen Not trying to be a dick, but he was born in the early 60s, there wasn't a lot of punk rock for him to get influenced by in the first place ... his entire generation probably liked arena rock and glam stuff ... nothing wrong with that, by the way
He is a tried and true punker. He doesn't care a bit what you guys think. Dude appreciates Jedi Mind Tricks, most guys are not even close to their level of wordplay.
I can see there'd be plenty of parallels in the messages and themes of some of the better written and more socially aware hip hop to the politically charged and humanistic punk bands like BR
That's cool, as long as it's not all about the same old moldy trinity of Riches Bitches & Stitches I'll give it a listen. I understand you gotta represent initially that means throwing down the Front.. but if that's all there is I get bored quick Being a musician I'm drawn to clever beats and base lines and catchy rhythms so good composition and a creative/slick melody can sometimes make up for lack of a message - but not always. Since you're a fan of the genre who in your opinion who has some sick beats or particular songs that kick out?
1ManNamedDan Well, I am. I started with NWA and all the solo careers back in the late 80s, 2 Live Crew... Then early 90s I listened to a lot of Cypress Hill, DJ Muggs and the Soul Assassins deal, mostly Muggs doing beats. Wu Tang, House of Pain, Funkdoobiest.... I heard a lot of rap, but ,mostly went for sick beats like those: Muggs, Wu Tang, Dr Dre & Snoop. Today I mostly listen while in the gym to get a pump. If I want to pay attention to the lyrics I go with Mad Child or Vinnie Paz (who is also a founding member of Jedi Mind Tricks, who the kid mentions in the video). I usually dont listen to ghetto black rap anymore at all, like Master P or Cash Money Millionaires or Gucci Mane or shit like that. Ive never heard a Wacka Flocka and I cant stand too much arrogance like Jay Z or Kanye West (although they have big producers who make descent poppy tunes every once in a while and you'll see it in MTV). I do like 50 Cent, it makes me laugh. I usually enjoy white rappers more, but cant stand any more Eminem copycats, black or white. I go for the creative part of hip hop, I enjoy some beats by a band called Swollen Members. Check out their song Lonely One. I enjoy it when they mix it with rock n roll or give it another twist, and not just make it ghetto. For example check out the dark twist of La Coka Nostra's Malverde Market, which throws me back to the early 90s . Or check out Ill Bill & Vinnie Paz's Children Of God, where they use references to punk and thrash music, which is the main feeling. I love rap with a punk feeling, "kind of" what Tim Armstrong did with The Transplants. If you like punk (which is my favorite genre) and rock check out Necro's first verse in the song Mechanix with Danny Diablo. So, more or less I like the attitude in rap mostly, if its more of a punk attitude, less of a riches & bitches attitude. I go for that feeling, and enjoy a descent beat every once in a while. What kind of music youre into? Have you done anything that I can hear?
thebarrochannel Thanks for the run down,I'll check out some of those you mentioned (Malverde Market & Children Of God sound interesting). I used to listen to a lot of Bas heavy stuff back in the day and Criuz in my older brothers dropped Mini, bumping Run DMC, Ice Tea (before he went Hollywood, but good on him if he gets paid that way) L.L. Cool J, Public Enemy, Luke&the2LiveCrew and of course Beasti Boys..... Then at 17 instead of finishing out my senior year of High School I joined the Army and went to Fort Knox Ky for basic training and advanced to learn how to pilot and work the weapons systems of M1 A1 Abrahms tanks (fun!) While I was in I made some good friends who turned me on to Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica, and all kinds of heavy and thrash metal. I shot a couple times but the injury that put me out happened in Jump School to get my Air Born Assault patch... So when I got out I ran into some school friends and played in a bunch of garage bands, where I started out playing drums, then met a drummer who kicked my ass, so I picked up a guitar and started writing, then met a guitarist who kicked my ass, so I moved over to rhythm and writing, I wrote most of the stuff and sang back up vocals, because the strange thing I noticed; the more the more technically talented some musicians were, it seemed they somehow didn't possess the creative spark to make original pieces. So we just made music to entertain ourselves and play for small fee's and lots of free beer with band names like: Shit Missile and Fist Fucks names as making money didn't seem realistic to me as there were so many more talented bands already making much better music that inspired me, like Bad Religion, PennyWise, No FX, System of a Down - my band actually opened for them at The Cattle Club which was a semi-famous roadhouse dive bar that most punk and underground and up and coming acts used to hit on their tours as a historic landmark - like the Fillmore in SF, in fact it was my greatest ambition to play there, i figured if we did that then we had as much fame as I could probably want or handle. and it was cool that we opened for System when nobody knew who they were yet before their first CD dropped... even though it was the best gig we ever played and the crowd was awesome, mosh pits and stage diving all through our set - but nobody there probably even remembered us after System came on and tore the fucking place down - seriously the place was closed for a few days for clean up and repairs lol. The owner said that was one of the rowdiest shows he could remember even death metal acts like Cannibal Corpse or Sepultura didn't tear the place up like that. Then things happen that happen to people in complex relationships - people get into fights, the lead singer moved to New York, the guitarist cleaned up after near OD-ing one too many times, and after meet a cute good little Christian hypocrite became born again and absolutely no fun to be around - and me and the drummer are still friends but kinda drifted apart a bit. I'll dig around and see if I got a Cd I can pull some songs off and up load on my Google drive ... our bassist was in charge of the merchandise and had a site up for a few years but he liked a little driving with his drinking and I got a pretty much expected phone call late one very rainy night, that a nasty curve near his home up in the hills - one I had joked about with him before, that I'd find him at the bottom of.. We'll since that time we haven't talked much about it .... wow this has gone wayyyyyy farther than i planned but this is what happens when I start drinking in the middle of reading and answering posts! Good thing for my Spell check or you'd have NO idea what I was talking about! If you even read all of this I'd be surprised hahahaha Well Sorry dude I hope I answered... something? hahahaha

I'm in love with Jay. Just saw Bad Religion play tonight and they were amazing. I just couldn't keep my eyes off Jay
Jay looks at his son like "I only love you because I have to"

Jay Bentley rules, he look's like my friend's father. I also like his son's choose of record - Jedi Mind Tricks rules too!
if everyone listened to the same type of music as their parents, music would have never of evolved.
Bad Religion is in my holy trinity of punk bands. Such a great band!
Jay Bentley got beautiful light blue eyes and also an amazing taste on music.
I love how the punk rock artists are heavily inspired by bands that are not punk rock in any sense of the word. I listen to punk almost exclusively, but most of my favorite bands are not punk bands. It's weird how that works out.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but are you into Bad Religion and/or the punk genre? Whats your favorite BR song/album?
Have a good one!
Jedi Mind Tricks is actually pretty badass
Jay's kid knows his stuff, cuz Jedi Mind Tricks is the SHIT!
Actually the only people that gave hip hop a break back in the day were the punks. So they kinda go hand in hand.
what is the song at the beginning?
Give You Nothing from BR's Suffer album.
Gotta admit, his son has an awesome taste in hip hop.
His son
HAHAHHA classic!
The dad s a punker, the son listens to hip hop (JMT, I listen to that too)
Its basically the same, hip hop and punk
I can see there'd be plenty of parallels in the messages and themes of some of the better written and more socially aware hip hop to the politically charged and humanistic punk bands like BR
Yeah, Im sorry. I didnt specified. Lol.
Exactly what you say. Thats what I was thinking, actually, but didnt write it right.
