    Avoid Chinese festivals to go to the popular attractions next time, otherwise endless crowds.

    Every time I go to Beijing(I had been to BEijing for 5-6 times),I suffer so much with crazy traffic. The taxi is crazy , traffic to the airport crazy. Subway is the best choice

    Great video! We went to the jinshanling section and there was almost nobody there. We highly recommend it. There is a direct bus leaving every day from Donhzhimenwaixiejie bus station at 8am and returning at 16pm. It costs 50 yuan. About 2-2.5 hours from Beijing. This is the most beautiful section. The views are really amazing and much better than Badaling which I did last time.
    Our video should be up in about an hour. Too bad we missed you there!

    • @NicoleEddy1
      @NicoleEddy1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Awesome, thanks so much for the advice :) We were a little strapped for time & heard that Badaling was easier but to be honest, I'd give up an entire weekend if it means that I can escape the crowds. I'll definitely head over & watch your video - would love to see your experience!

      @@NicoleEddy1 Yes that's exactly what we thought. After spending 2 hours getting into the forbidden city, crushed by 500.000 chinese people, we were adamant to NOT redo that experience lol. We just posted our video.
      We'll be staying until mid October in China, which means we will be here during 'golden week'. Pretty much everyone has a week off, starting October 1st. It is estimated about 350-400 million people travel around China during that week. The largest human migration in the world. Looking forward to it hihi.

    • @NicoleEddy1
      @NicoleEddy1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NaickKim I just finished watching it, it looks really surreal, so will skip Badaling & head there next time for sure. Yeah, as great as the atmosphere is, we also couldn't deal with the amount of people anymore & ended up being hermits on our last day to just catch a break, but we had mistimed our 'touristing' with school & Summer holidays so it was our fault :/ Good luck for Golden Week :)

    • @NaickKim
      @NaickKim 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NicoleEddy1 You should head to Mongolia next time. It's a massive country with just 3 million people living there. 50% of the population lives in the capital, so when you go outside the capital you can drive for kilometers without seeing any signs of civilization. Don't go there for the food though.

    If you decide to go back to the Great Wall, I would highly recommend Simatai. It’s a little bit further and the restoration has been structural only, so not very busy and it doesn’t look like a Disney version! It’s a bit steep but a great hike (or you can take a cable car)

    Avoid badaling like the plague. The best part of the wall, i've been to, is Gubeikou. Spent about 6 hours walking along it, and maybe only saw about 12 people. Been here, 6 years now, and have learned that the best time to visit the forbidden city, summer palace, temple of heaven, is during the week, in the morning.

  • @owheatl

    I think it is impressive how the locals are not as impacted by the crowds... It clearly does not keep them from going places while on school holiday. Hope you eventually get the see the Great Wall, crowded or not.

    Badaling is a lovely exercise as the world's longest queue on national holidays, you dodged a bullet there: www.pinterest.com.mx/pin/370984088029417087/. If ever you go to the Wall definitely go for the furthest-from-the-city ones like Jinshanling - so much more rewarding, beautiful, peaceful and ruined. A proper trek into the mountains and stunning countryside all around. A golden rule for China: NEVER go anywhere/do anything during national holidays, stay in the room, maybe barricade the door. Failing that learn to love 'Renao', which in China means the good humoured enjoyment of a crowd that translates as 'happy noise'. Or just get earplugs.

    Gimbals aren't really designed for vlogging but yeah, cinematic shots a must. For vlogging, a small 10inch selfie stick will help stabilize the footage. Without, so long as it doesn't look like you're having a seizure its fine.
