Do you remember playing this game? Did you go for the Gold Medals?
I've got all 19 golds on multiple playthroughs. It's my yearly christmas break tradition. I'm starting to run out of dirty 3-letter words to name my files.
haha the gold medal runs are so difficult. I've had a few good runs but trying to unlock all the bonus weapons. What's your go-to vehicle for Gold Runs?@@realtacobell
The Naboo fighter is objectively the best for gold runs because of the speed and rate of fire but I generally tend to use the A-Wing. @@JaWayne
That's neat. I plan to do a full play though (and record it) of the Millennium Falcon, the TIE fighter and the Naboo Starfighter. Not sure if I'll try to do all of the golds on camera or just try to get them for my own satisfaction. It makes me nervous to make that a goal hahah 😅
@JaWayne it takes time but after 5 or so attempts at each one, you'll figure out the flow. Escape from Fest is the most annoying in terms of scoring gold only because of the time factor and a small amount of RNG which can work against you
Everything. About. This. Is. A. Masterpiece.
Please keep doing these videos! It captures the nostalgia perfectly! I love everything about this!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I definitely want to keep making these, I'm glad someone is getting something out of it. I haven't picked my next game yet but I'm going to go through all of Rogue Squadron: missions, bonus missions, unlockable vehicles, and whatever else I can dream up.
@@JaWayne Yes please this is as close as some of us will get to reliving those childhood memories. Its a totally different vibe when you can see the game played on an old CRT TV!
Yeah I love this style and I feel like no one is doing it. Comments like this keep me going!
One hell of a retro setup you got dude!
Glad you like it! Been working on it for a year or so but finally fine tuned it recently. It'll continue to evolve!
Wow, this brings back 2nd grade with my cousin at grandmas house.
Haha that's so neat. I loved playing games with my cousins every time we met up with family!
Man, this brings back memories! I had a Phillips television in my bedroom to play video games with. I remember graphics quality was much better, « cleaner », on it compared to large TV sets!
In 2008, while a high schooler, I replugged my N64 to finish some games I couldn’t when I was a kid and among them was Rogue Squadron. Not only did I finish the game but got the gold medal for *every single mission* ! My greatest accomplishment as a gamer !
That’s awesome! I’m trying to go down that route but damn, some of these missions are hard. For gameplay uploads, I’ll probably go through all missions first, then bonus missions and bonus ships, then try for gold on each with perhaps the Naboo Starfighter. I hear it’s the best one to use for Gold Medals. Is that what you used?
@@JaWayne I admit it’s a pretty difficult game! When I was a kid I was stuck in the 2nd final mission, but when I replayed it I scarcely used bonus ships so I went the usual route of re-trying and developing strategies.
The most difficult gold medal for me to get was the mission where you controlled a snowspeedster in a narrow canyon and you had to destroy radars in order to attack by surprise, also the Y-wing squadron mission in another canyon was also pretty hard but surprisingly the Moff Seardon mission wasn’t that difficult to reach the gold, I think I already all those for previous missions so it kinda boosted my confidence to get that one.
That’s cuz “upscaling” is a fake reason to spend more money on something you absolutely do not need. Glad everyone fell into the trap.
I believe I just beat Mission 14 out of 16 and haven't played the last 2 yet. It's getting really difficult haha. I've been practicing on each one so that when I film the next batch of missions I'll be able to easily play through. Mission 4 video is coming out tomorrow!
(Battle for Naboo) is another great hit.
I've never played that one - not even when I was younger. I hear it's awesome. I've never seen it in the wild but I'm going to keep my eye out for it.
@@JaWayne I was fortunate to see it at a rental video store back in the day. But definitely keep your eyes open. It’s a good game.
I will! It seems to be rare but not super valuable. My quest begins!
@@JaWayne it’s good man. If you enjoyed rogue . You’ll enjoy Naboo.
How are you able to film the screen so good. Cool video i have a small Trinitron too love it for retro games
Yeah this one looks so great. So I shoot in 1080p at 60 fps. I can't remember if I put the shutter speed at 1/60 or 1/120 but I'm guessing 1/60. Someone commented on one of my videos and recommended that and it worked! I also feel like I tried it on another TV and it wasn't working as great - possibly the output is slightly different for each TV or at least brand? Not too sure!
@@JaWayne i looked around after posting this and I think you're explanation is right on the money. It makes me want to wipe my Trinitron and keep as nice as possible we've had it this long soon they'll be as collectable as retro game themselves
Yeah if you have a Trinitron then I think you should hang onto it and keep it pristine. Maybe you don't even use it as your main gaming TV - but you can show it off to people by hooking it up haha
I think this is just the beginning of this trend towards CRTs but what do I know?
Did you utilize the expansion pak?
Yes! I recently bought this specific N64 with Rogue Squadron, Shadows of the Empire and Wave Race with 4 controllers that work great. I was surprised a couple weeks later to find the expansion pak in there. I tried playing Rogue Squadron on my other N64 and it's definitely night and day.
Did they get the rights to Star Wars but not the right to the music?
I think Lucas Arts was making Star Wars games but they didn't have the rights to draw directly from the movies - they had to invent their own stories that stayed true to the films. But apparently they did have access to the sound library including the music. That's how I understand it but please correct me if I'm wrong! (anyone)
This game was too hard for me.
It’s definitely a difficult one to get used to. I feel a bit more confident with it now. I definitely played the Shadows of the Empire one and remember the Hoth aerial level but I can’t remember if I truly got into Rogue Squadron back then. It’s been fun playing it now tho!
