  • A review of the Coleman HyperFlame FyreKnight Gas Stove. I picked this gas stove up from Snowys on special for $170Aud. It's a great stove, not perfect, but I like it!

    If you're having trouble controlling the flow of gas, it's because the dials on the front are literally choked full of lubricant gel or something. Unscrew them, remove the dials, pull out the valve, and blast the thing with silicon lubricant spray and clean the valves off. You'll get much better control over the flow and be able to let it burn at a super low temp.

      The grease is actually in there to seal the gas cock. Designated gas valve grease gives better control.

    Brilliant Stove!!
    Are you aware of an additional Trivet type spacer that will increase the gap between the burners and a hot plate / fry pan to assist with heat spread?
    Excellent review and video cobber!!

    I wonder if the lower spec model is better at low & medium heat cooking?

    Hi, thanks for the great review. I was in Anaconda earlier today - before viewing this and the guy told me the hose doesn't come with it. He also informed me that the regulator is in built and isn't in the piece that sticks out the side - its just an adaptor. I had quite a chat to him as I wanted to buy one and connect it to my regulated gas out let on the camper I just bought. He said it would be fine, however after speaking with Gameco who are gas people across the country it doesn't appear to be the case. As you and Gameco stated the cooker operates around a 100KPA and the van pressure is 2.75! So if any body is buying one of these for a caravan or camper trailer and intend on connecting to the regulated gas supply its not going to work.

    Thank you. I’ve just ordered one of these stoves. When I first realised you were going to do something to the knobs I though, Oh well. I won’t be able to do that. But you’ve made it look so easy and doable. I can’t wait till me stove arrives and I can become a plumber!!

      @@Mrjohnboy1965 remove/prise both gas control knobs of the burners. Get a shifter and remove both gas stems. Clean all the grease that was put on the stems by the Coleman factory, off. Lightly lubricate the gas stems with something like silicon spray etc. Reassemble everything, now when you light the stove you will have full control of the flame, right down to a very constant gentle simmer.

    Great review Mark. Iv had mine for 5 months and I totally agree with everything you said. I got mine for $170 too, BCF price matched Snowys. I like it but if I paid $200+ I don’t think I’d be too happy. Overall I like it 👍🏻

      I think like anything and everything, these retail stores drastically market their prices above the recommended retail price, and then reduce them to make them appear to be 'on sale.
      Simply: do your research and be prepared to wait and price match

    At 3:18 you mentioned that inlet tube was un-nerving. Hey...me too. I sent a spray to Colman telling them it is an absolute dumb-arse design if ever there was one.
    Will you tell me if it could be modified to have the regulator almost at the end where it fits into the stove?

    Nice thoughtful review! Re: temperature control. In addition to using the knob you can use a heat diffuser. We sell the ozpig heat diffuser but kitchen shops sell them too. Many households use them on their gas stoves at home to gain additional temp control for simmering etc but agreed it'd be nice if the knob had some more control too. Re: regulator. We hear you, it'd be nice if it was a soft hose regulator. I wouldn't be too worried about spares availability in the future. Coleman sell several appliances that all use this regulator so they'll be available for quite some time. I think it's be nice if they brought back the soft hose one rather than this stiff arm. Keep up the good work.

      @TasmanianOffroadAdventures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Tentworld thanks for that. I have managed to get the low to work better but it won't post it as it technically is required to be done by a gas fitter.

      @@TasmanianOffroadAdventures is this adjustment similar to the video posted by "Uncle Fjester" about re-lubricating the valve seals?
      You recommend "Anderson and Forrester Hyheet Graphite Grease" I can't seem to find this in the UK, would you know of any other alternatives.
      Would any graphite grease work well?
      thanks for the great review :)
      I'm considering buying this to use fulltime in a campervan but my biggest concern is the flame control/simmer ability

      At $10 a pop for those small cylinders I would use a 2 kg gas bottle which would probably cost the same to fill

  • @1Coolbanana
    @1Coolbanana 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How long does the half kilo bottle last? The rigid line and the bottle at 45 degrees, dont like that, whats that about? Why wouldnt they use a flexible line?

    • @TasmanianOffroadAdventures
      @TasmanianOffroadAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t timed it, but on a 7 day tour, I usually go through one cylinder. The dog leg pipe is a Coleman thing, they use them on other cookers too. It does include a hose if you want to use larger cylinders.

    I have had this stove for several years. I have always run it on a 4.5kg bottle. A few things that bother me about this stove are the regulator, as you mention it is very disappointing that it is a one off fitting to the stove. Also the inability to have a low setting is a problem. On the plus side it boils water faster then anything I have seen!

    To make the adjustment of the gas so it does not close down remove the knob remove the nut put the knob back on and unscrew the entire shaft that's on the stove remove the grease and add a light oil and put it all back together that will solve the problem of the gas creeping too high

  • @69indigoblue

    Never undestand why Coleman always uses these rigid gas connectors, instead of a flexible hose. This makes the burner even wider and you need almost a one meter table to use it...
