This is the best topper/extra hair video I've seen. You're very good at teaching without just showing us just-how-good-you-look-in-your-toppers/wigs like most of these women are doing in their videos. Did you go to wig shops at first or just order right from the web? My first wig shop visit wasn't too successful. I didn't learn anything except that I need to cough up $1500K for a topper made of human hair.
Hi Heather. Loved your video. I’m in Australia where there isn’t the same amount of choice with wigs and toppers as there is in the US. I just bought a topper that I’m happy with, but after watching your video I’m realising that I probably should have been given more advice about weight and how to take it off without damaging my thinning, brittle hair. At the moment it’s winter here so my bio hair is sitting straight and blends in with the topper, but I’ll have the same problems as you in summer when it’s humid and my bio hair turns frizzy. A wig might be too hot in the Australian heat so It’s difficult to find the best solution for all year. I love your positivity and humour with regard to the distressing problem of hair loss. Seeing your video has made me feel that I’m not alone and that it’s not the end of the world!

I saw this video too late and had already bought the easiPart HD that is narrow. I picked up some tips from you on how to possibly make it work, but I really like the Top Crown base you showed here. Thank you for a very informative video. It actually has info a prospective topper/wig wearer would need. Because the hair on top and around my face are very light, I.e. white, going back into light ash brown/blonde(I always called it silver mouse!), I guess it is not as noticeable a person with very dark hair maybe. When the wind blows though.....I worry. I am almost 79, but would like to look nice when I go to church or other outings. My hair hair has always been fine, wavy to curly, now medium length, which looks best on me. Your talk about the clips giving someone a headache is a little daunting. I am glad I hit on your video before doing anything foolish!

Hi Diana! Lighter colors reflect the light and heat up less, open caps are coolest because the wefting let the air through and keep you cool, and if all else fails try a cotton wig liner to soak up some of the sweat! cysterwigs.com/products/cotton-wig-cap-liner-individual

@@CysterWigs Right! Which probably ironically would promote hair growth. Im doing red light treatments at home right now with a vitamin treatment and specialised dha shampoo blocker. But decided that Im done with the expensive dermatologist when one sudgested our next step could be to remove 6L of my blood separate the white blood cells and inject them back into my scalp over a course treatment. I had a wake-up call. Im not sick but Im not living. I love my toppers and trying live life to the topper fullest. lol windy day hater and no amusement rides for me but life goes on.

My hair was always thin, fine and straight, but after I lost it all and it gradually increased, the hair shaft thickness was about a sixth the size. 11 years have passed and the shaft is a fourth the size of the original. When I pinch my hair and rub back and forth it feels like baby powder in my fingers, and no soft crackle anymore! Areas of baldness and receding in front, too. So should I seek out a fine hair topper? I crave curly hair, so shall I curl mine with the topper? I hate wigs! They're hot and itchy! I crave longer hair that touches my shoulders because mine looks sickly when I try to grow it out. What a catch 22. Suggestions?

Thank you for your very informative video. JMO. I think you would look cute with a a lighter color topper for a slightly sun bleached look. Or you could go wild and crazy with a platunum topper. For myself Ive been checking out toppers and buns to get me thru a hopefully temporary hair loss from stupidly using Medifast to lose weight. My problem is I cant find a match for my medium copper auburn hair. Every thing I try sticks out like a sore thumb.

Hi, DM M! Yeah, you could do that, but there might be drawbacks to doing it. It might not be as comfortable as just a wig on its own. Also, if your hair is brittle or easily damaged or falls out easily, a topper plus extensions could just make things worse. It could also get expensive to keep up. I wouldn't recommend it myself, because I think you could get the same length and fullness result more comfortably and for cheaper with just a plain ol' wig. But that's my two cents. Hope this helps!
Good points, I think you're right, a topper and extensions might be a little too much. I do wear wigs but I feel the need to wear a hat over them because they just don't look real to me, not even my fine European top of the line wig. Every time I wear a wig I always wonder if people are staring at it and know it's fake, makes me very uncomfortable. I guess I'll keep watching videos on here to try and learn new tips & tricks. That's okay, DM M! A big part of wearing wigs or toppers is feeling comfortable with them. Not just physical comfort, but feeling at ease with the idea of wearing them. And, if you're comfortable with something, your confidence also goes up. It took me a while to get comfortable with full wigs after wearing toppers, myself. I think that everyone who wears wigs worries about people staring at them and wondering at some point or another. You're not alone in that. Not by a long shot! But the thing is, other people are so wrapped up in their own lives, they don't notice ANYTHING else going on around them. Most of the time, when anyone comments about the wigs to me or our customers when we're wearing them, it's to say how much they like the hair, who did it, etc. And even if you TELL them it's a wig, they won't believe you unless you take it off in front of them! Do you think it might be that the wigs don't look real to you because you KNOW they're not your real hair? Have you asked any close friends or relatives their opinions on the wigs? If not, that might be something to ask, unless you're not comfortable with it. Just a thought.
This is true. It's possible to remove the clips and re-attach them where needed, but it takes a bit of practice. If you know of (or can find) a salon nearby that can do it for you, that saves a lot of time! - Nigel
I have a question regarding smoothing frizz for a heat friendly waved or curled topper. I currently wear the straight version of the belle tress lace front mono top topper which is heat friendly and would love to also have the wavy version to switch out. But how do you defrizz a wavy HF piece without it losing its wave pattern? I don't want to have to try to recurl it every time it gets frizzy but I obviously cannot run a flat iron through it to remove frizz like I do with my straight piece. Thanks for your help!
You can try passing over it with a gentle blast of steam and leaving it in place. But honestly - you are right. You can take the wave out but putting it back in can be next to impossible! Someone had mentioned braiding and steaming in a braid to get the waves...just a thought!
Do you have to keep some bio hair in front of the topper where your bangs lie or can all of the front bio hair go under the topper? I don’t want my grey roots showing in the front.

Hello, I have a question that I'm hoping someone could answer, I recently purchased a Jon Renau topper, and it arrived out of the netting, which was thrown in the box with it. Okay, Rosie, thanks for clarifying. Yes, it should have come wrapped inside its hair net in the box. If I were you, I would contact the store you bought it from, and let them know how it arrived, and that you haven't washed it or otherwise tampered with it. That should make returning it easier, if that's the route you wish to go. Finally, if you're dissatisfied with the service from that particular store, I can recommend cysterwigs.com/ or wigcloseouts.com/ as pretty dang reliable. 😉 Hope this helps! - Nigel
That depends entirely on the store. Each has different policies about that. Some don't do anything at all. In the case of our store, we use ultraviolet light to disinfect the wig if we feel that it has hygiene issues...but we also don't put it back into circulation. Instead, we sell it on a separate site specifically for open box wigs and returns called wigcloseouts.com. We mention on every product on that site what the condition of the wig is. If it comes back really gross, we won't accept the return at all. We've very strict about that in my stores because we respect that a lot of our clients have medical concerns and we don't want to risk exposing them to nasty stuff.
I am curious, do you blood pressure medication? One Medicare caused me to have to try before they would pay for the one I was taking made my hair start falling out. My hair has not regrown to former thickness.
Hi, Joan! No, I don't take blood pressure medication, so I can't speak on that subject, but I can definitely sympathize for your hair loss! Are you still on that medication that thinned your hair?
No, I only took it a few weeks and called Dr and told her it was poison to me. It has been over a year. I found out that medication was actually made from a snake venom after researching. Even meds for diabetes, most blood pressure meds and some for depression make cause hair loss. Also, I have been for a long time on hypothyroid meds which can affect hair. Just an FYI for people.

@@CysterWigs Right! Which probably ironically would promote hair growth. Im doing red light treatments at home right now with a vitamin treatment and specialised dha shampoo blocker. But decided that Im done with the expensive dermatologist when one sudgested our next step could be to remove 6L of my blood separate the white blood cells and inject them back into my scalp over a course treatment. I had a wake-up call.
Im not sick but Im not living. I love my toppers and trying live life to the topper fullest. lol windy day hater and no amusement rides for me but life goes on.

Shampoos with sulfates will do that I had to get my hair cut really short because of an accident and also using shampoos with sulfates

My hair was always thin, fine and straight, but after I lost it all and it gradually increased, the hair shaft thickness was about a sixth the size. 11 years have passed and the shaft is a fourth the size of the original. When I pinch my hair and rub back and forth it feels like baby powder in my fingers, and no soft crackle anymore! Areas of baldness and receding in front, too.
So should I seek out a fine hair topper? I crave curly hair, so shall I curl mine with the topper? I hate wigs! They're hot and itchy! I crave longer hair that touches my shoulders because mine looks sickly when I try to grow it out. What a catch 22.

Thank you for your very informative video. JMO. I think you would look cute with a a lighter color topper for a slightly sun bleached look. Or you could go wild and crazy with a platunum topper. For myself Ive been checking out toppers and buns to get me thru a hopefully temporary hair loss from stupidly using Medifast to lose weight. My problem is I cant find a match for my medium copper auburn hair. Every thing I try sticks out like a sore thumb.

Hi, DM M! Yeah, you could do that, but there might be drawbacks to doing it. It might not be as comfortable as just a wig on its own. Also, if your hair is brittle or easily damaged or falls out easily, a topper plus extensions could just make things worse. It could also get expensive to keep up. I wouldn't recommend it myself, because I think you could get the same length and fullness result more comfortably and for cheaper with just a plain ol' wig. But that's my two cents. Hope this helps!
Good points, I think you're right, a topper and extensions might be a little too much. I do wear wigs but I feel the need to wear a hat over them because they just don't look real to me, not even my fine European top of the line wig. Every time I wear a wig I always wonder if people are staring at it and know it's fake, makes me very uncomfortable. I guess I'll keep watching videos on here to try and learn new tips & tricks. That's okay, DM M! A big part of wearing wigs or toppers is feeling comfortable with them. Not just physical comfort, but feeling at ease with the idea of wearing them. And, if you're comfortable with something, your confidence also goes up. It took me a while to get comfortable with full wigs after wearing toppers, myself. I think that everyone who wears wigs worries about people staring at them and wondering at some point or another. You're not alone in that. Not by a long shot!
But the thing is, other people are so wrapped up in their own lives, they don't notice ANYTHING else going on around them. Most of the time, when anyone comments about the wigs to me or our customers when we're wearing them, it's to say how much they like the hair, who did it, etc. And even if you TELL them it's a wig, they won't believe you unless you take it off in front of them!
Do you think it might be that the wigs don't look real to you because you KNOW they're not your real hair? Have you asked any close friends or relatives their opinions on the wigs? If not, that might be something to ask, unless you're not comfortable with it. Just a thought.

I was told you can move clips around by sewing them in. Not everyone has exact thin areas.
This is true. It's possible to remove the clips and re-attach them where needed, but it takes a bit of practice. If you know of (or can find) a salon nearby that can do it for you, that saves a lot of time! - Nigel

I have a question regarding smoothing frizz for a heat friendly waved or curled topper. I currently wear the straight version of the belle tress lace front mono top topper which is heat friendly and would love to also have the wavy version to switch out. But how do you defrizz a wavy HF piece without it losing its wave pattern? I don't want to have to try to recurl it every time it gets frizzy but I obviously cannot run a flat iron through it to remove frizz like I do with my straight piece. Thanks for your help!
You can try passing over it with a gentle blast of steam and leaving it in place. But honestly - you are right. You can take the wave out but putting it back in can be next to impossible! Someone had mentioned braiding and steaming in a braid to get the waves...just a thought!

Hello, I have a question that I'm hoping someone could answer, I recently purchased a Jon Renau topper, and it arrived out of the netting, which was thrown in the box with it. It is my first topper so I don't know if this is normal. Should I return it, or just wash it? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Okay, Rosie, thanks for clarifying. Yes, it should have come wrapped inside its hair net in the box. If I were you, I would contact the store you bought it from, and let them know how it arrived, and that you haven't washed it or otherwise tampered with it. That should make returning it easier, if that's the route you wish to go. Finally, if you're dissatisfied with the service from that particular store, I can recommend cysterwigs.com/ or wigcloseouts.com/ as pretty dang reliable. 😉 Hope this helps! - Nigel
May I ask if there is a process for cleaning or dissenfecting (?) A returned item before it is sent out to another customer?
That depends entirely on the store. Each has different policies about that. Some don't do anything at all. In the case of our store, we use ultraviolet light to disinfect the wig if we feel that it has hygiene issues...but we also don't put it back into circulation. Instead, we sell it on a separate site specifically for open box wigs and returns called wigcloseouts.com. We mention on every product on that site what the condition of the wig is. If it comes back really gross, we won't accept the return at all. We've very strict about that in my stores because we respect that a lot of our clients have medical concerns and we don't want to risk exposing them to nasty stuff.

I am curious, do you blood pressure medication? One Medicare caused me to have to try before they would pay for the one I was taking made my hair start falling out. My hair has not regrown to former thickness.
Hi, Joan! No, I don't take blood pressure medication, so I can't speak on that subject, but I can definitely sympathize for your hair loss! Are you still on that medication that thinned your hair?
No, I only took it a few weeks and called Dr and told her it was poison to me. It has been over a year. I found out that medication was actually made from a snake venom after researching. Even meds for diabetes, most blood pressure meds and some for depression make cause hair loss. Also, I have been for a long time on hypothyroid meds which can affect hair. Just an FYI for people.

Sometimes it grows back, sometimes it nearly all falls out. But if you find something that works for you, why the heck not? ;)
