I didn't know this piece. It is not an ear-worm drilling straight to the centre of your brain, but it is very beautiful and just keeps evolving. I guess that's why everybody knows Mozart, and only the smart people know Sibelius. Thank you!
As with the proverbial duck I have the sense there's a lot going on under the placid surface as the melody glides along effortlessly. Anyway, I trusted you and I loved it. Thanks for that. Sibelius probably left behind a sackful of forgotten gems.
This very recording is a perfect example of a not super famous, but very good/musical conductor with a not so famous orchestra making a 1st class/lovely/ musical recording ...good Stuff 👍
I know this piece from the Fabulous Concert Program that features Lloyd’s 4th (maybe the best of all the concert programs?) I was floored when I heard the suite. It’s full of amazing tunes and colors and I wondered why in the world have I never heard this before???
Glad you mentioned King Christian. It certainly is a suite that folk don't hear because it's not a symphony. Berglund and Bournemouth certainly crank it up the finale. A great version.
Always had a liking for the MIRANDA section of Sibelius's The Tempest. This isn't bad either. You could tell it was Sibelius just by listening to it. No further info would have been necessary. THANKS DAVE.........
Hello. I'd like to ask you a question if you don't mind. Do you know by any chance whether there are any recordings of Georg Friedrich Haas's Bluthaus publicly available somewhere? Sorry because it's not related to the video but I didn't know where to ask it.
@ Sorry for not replying before. I was aware of that upload but the sound has a couple of defects and I wondered if I could get one without those defects somewhere. Thank you anyway for your reply. And thanks to Dave too for his reply.
Sibelius is so so underrated. What gorgeous music.
Oh, ah, oh, ah.... *pant*, *pant*...gorgeous, breathtakingly beautiful! 🥰🥰🥰
Quick! Take a cold shower!
One of my favorite discs of one of my favorite conductors playing one of my favorite composers. Life is good.

It depends on how easily your brain gets drilled.
@@DavesClassicalGuide Yes, mine is quite full of holes, thank you. More on topic: what a beautiful tune, sigh. Thanks!

Completely stupendous melody, and as you say, it's a tune that evolves, getting ardent more and more. A good excuse to explore Sibelius in depth.
"OOOOOOOH MY GOOOOOOD! THERE IT IIIIIS!"
Priceless moments.
I have loved that piece ever since I got it on a disc coupled with the 3rd symphony conducted by Jarvi on BIS.

He was an excellent conductor and his Sibelius recordings are outstanding!
The Nocturne from Belshazzar’s Feast is gorgeous as well.
Holy Jeez that’s stunning. Thank you. Made my Sunday.
You're welcome!
Thank you for this, I love Sibelius and am going to look through my CD's to see if I have a recording of that piece.

Hi Dave. I suggest for your séries the slow movement from the Saint-Saëns second cello concerto.
I think the entire King Christian II Suite is equally good!

May I put in a word for the first theme of the Poulenc Piano Concerto's slow movement?

I don't know.
There is a recording of the full opera here on you tube. The video title is "Georg Friedrich Haas: Bluthaus (2010/2011)"

@@sunsunsunh I looked at dis cogs and there are no recordings of this. It's the biggest database of music I know of.
The whole suite is gorgeous, too bad it's not so well-known among conductors.
