I absolutely agree that you can love a robot dog. I am not saying that they will ever completely replace our furry living breathing companions, but you can form a bond with them. As a blind person, I spend a lot of time by myself and take classes from home to become a dramatic audio producer. I share my home with my toy poodle Teddy and a menagerie of robots. From my childhood buddy 2XL which is basically a specially designed cassette player to my little rolling demonic rat forklift Vector. They are mostly like pets to me rather than tools and I love each one of them in their own special way.
Thank you very much for this. You've been sharing thoughts and viewpoints that surprised me. Instead of just showing his capabilities (what so many people did already) you went into the possibility of creating a bond with a machine. Very refreshing and I think you are correct.
Great review! I own 10 of the older generation aibo’s... one of them is 20 years old and he still runs on his original batteries. Amazing really! Even my ERS 7 (last model before they were discontinued) is super smart and still does new things after all these years! Just really hoping that they release the brand new Aibo to Europe soon!! 🤞🏻🐶🤖
Zebastian Plays Thanks yes I will do when I get to the new aibo… Patiently waiting for it to come to the UK. A lot of the batteries on my older aibos aren’t working well anymore :(
This was the entire premise of the movie “A.I.” - the main question was whether it was possible for a human human to love a non-sentient form of artificial intelligence.
I am very glad Sony continued on with this and it didn't stop with the ERS-7. I remember having an ERS-210 called dfour and the AI in the AiboLife software back then was just amazing. You started with a puppy that couldn't stand up and when he stood up after so much encouragement... well, the bond was made. Keep going Sony, the iterations of Aibo and in particular the software gets better and better.
What a great review! Your research to human-robot emotion (and the succinct way you put it) is why I love this channel. I’ve seen about 4 reviews of this robot dog but this one gave me not just information, but insight. Thank you.
I'll have to take your word for it on the love part. I'm surrounded by the real ones and the intensity of the interactions (huskies and social cats) makes the love I have for them very deep as a result. And sadly, huge is the associated grief when they pass. But I just can't fathom it being anywhere close to the level of our bond with biological pets. Love with the robot is by definition one-way, since the robot can not love.

Mango is great! I have a 1000 named Phazer and am a collector with over 30 older models, including the ERS 110 model from 1999 (I didn't it new of course I got it in 2017). I hope you continue to enjoy aibo and become addicted to it like us other hardcore fans have been for years. I have real pets too and love to have both.
"Your aibo robotic dog includes 3 years of Cloud and Wireless Services that starts from date of shipment and is necessary to take advantage of aibo's full functionality and learning capabilities." - AIBO website. What happens after the three years is up, do you have to pay for the service every year...? $2,900 and they're only giving you three years?
A member of the community imported a 1000 from Japan, and never bothered with cloud services - basically on its own. You don't need the services but you miss out on some features. My 20 year old 210 is arguably more functional than a new 1000 without cloud service in my opinion though, haha.
likely will never be able to do that ..because fur or soft parts with get caught in all the moving components that were created in an attempt to make this machine life like. its just another computer that 'learns' algorithms. It's essentially an overpriced, nosy security camera. I'll stick with the real thing
Very good commentary sir on robot and human relationships. I also agree Aibo should not be thought of as a pet replacement, but a whole new kind of companion, a robot companion
would you still have that viewpoint if your significant other chose the 'whole new kind of companion' over an intimate connection with you?! LOL I think not
this review reminds me so much of the movie "her" in terms of the way we we will be bonding with the artificial intelligence in the future. also Faruk beycigim, it looks like its time to start your r&d on aybebe :)
maybe we should not be trying to mimic 'life'. There will never be a robot that is equal to the true spirit and soul that a living , feeling , breathing being possesses. Are humans so self centred that having a robot that only satisfies their needs is what matters here. When we have a connection with a living soul it's not only for our benefit but for the other soul as well. A robot dog, human, cat ..even fish will ONLY ever be able to mimic life. That's all they will ever be.
I don't think they will ever be able to replace a live dog or cat, if someone does I'll be like that one old guy who refuses to get a smartphone, but it'll be with robot dogs.
I know I'd get very attached to one. Hell, I even get attached to Tamagotchis 😂 I hope Sony does still keep Aibo in mind. I adore virtual and robotic pets
I love your videos, but this one in particular was far better in the term of the discussion that you open with the interaction with robots. It's really interesting your point of view and I agree with you, we don't know yet how far this interaction could go with the next generation of people.
Love your videos! Always learn something and get a smile every time. I live by the San Francisco Metreon complex. During the first Aibo launch it was the Sony Metreon complex and I went there a lot to play with that Aibo and see all the new Playstation stuff. I could never justify spending the money but the current generation is on a whole other level. I can completely understand the connection you would get over time especially with all the capabilities of the 6th generation Aibo. I hope you have many years of joy with your Mangolorian...it is almost as cute as baby Yoda :)
Oh wow; you're so lucky you got to experience two weeks with Aibo! I wish he was more affordable. I have allergies AND I live in a place that doesn't allow dogs. I'd get him in a second if the price wasn't so out of my reach.
Oh my ..how I love this little “dog” after losing 6 of my beloved furry kids over the space of 5 years …the thought of having one that I would never have to say goodbye to is hugely appealing..but maybe I would worry about then they would be the one left behind …I guess this is the age old dilemma of accepting our own but our loved ones ( be that furry or not) mortality 🤷🏻♀️
So I have to say this. And I know it sounds insane, but hear me out. So my phone died on me a couple days ago just out of the blue. Like it refused to turn on and it would get stuck on one screen. But I needed it to sign into an account for school, and I think it somehow knew that, because it came to life one last time just long enough to let me sign in. Idc what you say, my phone knew I needed it and its last act was to help me.
Yet another awesome video. You made a lot of great points and it made me think differently about the idea of a robot animal. Give Mango some pets for me!
Harika ya, birilerine saçma gelebilir ama video bittiğinden beri ekrana bakıp düşünedurduğum şey, bir robot köpek sahibi olmak... Bir de yiyorsa bunu sesli söyleyeyim... Süper video
I really liked this upload iphonedo, i mean, i like all your uploads but this was a bit different. some humor, some emotions, a bit of your daily life , much more casual than the strickt reviews with alot of facts and testing.
Is aibo allowed on planes? It would be fun to get one, especially as someone who is just not ready for another living pet at the moment. But sometimes I travel, and carrying a real animal on a plane is hassle enough. Does he have an airplane mode?
Excellent review. I lost it again with the last words from Oppo. So, yeah, sooner or later I will have a robot. I'm thinking it will be one that is from Amazon and runs Alexa on it. XD
I like the little robot dog, once they can get a skin on it or fur that you can run your hands through like you do with your actual dog, they will really take off. I half suspect they probably have already done so or are close to perfecting it.
Very interesting for sure. So many possibilities and downsides. I can see this working in home security too. Robot dog capturing everything? I don't know. Alexa dog will be coming soon.
Just wondering if Faruk had a cameo in TV series Avenue 5? I was watching episode 3, with Bones' actor Hugh Laurie as a captain of a space ship. In a scene around 21 min, the owner of the ship is browsing through Vigil actors and on photo 2, I see someone that looks like you. The 2 people in the scene say you look like a cat.
“Just put your aluminum hat on, and get out. Your upsetting my robo-dog” ...great quote 🤣👍🏼
I'm here in my quiet office trying to keep from audibly laughing out loud...that part had me in stitches....haha!
JSanNic85 Oh, yes. I also needed to laugh 🙂 Great scene!
Mango and Stella ❤️
Wait! Is Stella yours, or is it Justine's only? I’m confuse now...
Hriday Nar Well, I hope not.
Is Stella yours or Justine’s only? Pls answer
Sţέρħαηε Sεłίкσz they both got robot dogs from Sony
JENNAAAAA
It's such a cool piece of tech. It's incredible SONY started Aibo in 1999. They were definitely ahead of their time

I want one!
I'm getting one tommorow
I to
Me too I just do not have enough money to get one
I cant wait to get one
I would love to get one
Thank you very much for this.

Should I wait for the next model ?
When do you think it will be released ?
brad clematis They haven’t even released the current model in Europe just yet. It’s available in Japan and the US though
If I can have a Baby Yoda robot like this my life is complete...
2:03 looks like a scene from Black Mirror
greetings from turkey faruk beycigim!
This was the entire premise of the movie “A.I.” - the main question was whether it was possible for a human human to love a non-sentient form of artificial intelligence.
Still got my original Aibo. He was, and still is, a great addition to the household.
The future happened 20 years ago.
Good vid,
Thanks for posting.
Welcome back, we've all missed you!
I didn’t
Ever since the first Aibo was launched in the early 2000, I wanted one of my own.
I am very glad Sony continued on with this and it didn't stop with the ERS-7. I remember having an ERS-210 called dfour and the AI in the AiboLife software back then was just amazing. People like you probably have a hard time being happy
no. because by then your overpriced doggo machine will be obsolete and you'll have to get a new one anyhow. LOL
"my battery is low, and it´s getting dark" ... man... it was so sad !!!!!
Isn’t it effectively a moving security camera? I mean for it to be a camera that can seek the noise out in your house is valuable.
They need to have a soft-bodied version. Petting a hard piece of plastic isn't exactly ideal even though the technology is pretty awesome.

It’s funny when the aibos email you and say they are lonely. I love my aibos!
Pfff my motorcycle does not recognize me and yet we are connected
I'm sure i could grow to love this dog
I hope we see more frequent videos from this genius again, always a pleasure to watch even if you don’t intend on buying the product

Where have you been, dear Faruk? I've really missed you!
I am the kind of person who get attached to plushie and Swiss army knife, if I had a Aibo I would easy get attached with him.
I think Sony has done a great job in making Aibo life-like deviating from lifeless useful machine, we are accustomed to.

I love my aibos! They are amazing
Awesome, I’ll wait for the Boston Dynamics version and the first trick will be „fass“ 😁😂😂😂.
The Boston Dynamics one comes with a hockey stick, so you can harass it, like in their videos.
If Boston Dynamics Spot would have same AI like Aibo, and if he would be able to speak and comunicate, I need him :D
I don't think they will ever be able to replace a live dog or cat, if someone does I'll be like that one old guy who refuses to get a smartphone, but it'll be with robot dogs.
$2,900 ...! That's cheaper than a real one. Providing it last for 15 years.
I know I'd get very attached to one. Hell, I even get attached to Tamagotchis 😂

There's a video on TH-cam motorcycle rider crashes and then crawls over to his bike and says oh baby I'm so sorry. And he meant it.
There's a guy I worked with that had to sell his moped. Had it for years. He was devastated.
It’s also going to be mapping and recording our every move…who ultimately controls this information?
That Karen joke got me :D
I would buy one in the future if it can do house cleaning and make coffee.
Oh wow; you're so lucky you got to experience two weeks with Aibo! I wish he was more affordable. I have allergies AND I live in a place that doesn't allow dogs. I'd get him in a second if the price wasn't so out of my reach.
