- On Saturday night 24th March 2012 at around 9 pm, Scotland lost one of it's legends.
Jocky Wilson. Real name, John Thomas Wilson. One of the greatest darts players.
I remember watching him play on TV during the 1980's and 1990's.
Everyone knew his name, just a simple wee man from Fife, an ace with the arrows.
This is his 1989 victory over the great Eric Bristow.
R.I.P. Jocky you were a legend and kept us all up late many nights watching you on tv.

In my eyes, this is the best darts match there has ever been. RIP to Eric and Jocky, two great characters and players, the like of which we won't see again in the game.
I think todays players are better ,although like all sports as time passes performances improve .Suppose it's hard to compare different eras,anybody agree ?
I miss those 80s and 90s days...much more fun back then and less chaos than today.

Jocky was a true entertainer and a real darts legend. His games with Bristow are sadly missed; darts these days is just too manufactured in my view and has lost the raw edge that Jocky and Bristow could produce. I may be English but more importantly, I love the game of darts. Irrespective of anyone's nationality, you admire them for their ability. For their talent and for their desire to entertain others. RIP Jocky. You are fondly remembered by so many for what you achieved. God Bless fella.

Their both together again for a rematch now. Eric and Jocky were Giants in the Sport. Amazing viewing in those days. The atmosphere is electric.

Remember coming home from watching liverpool at Sheffield Wednesday and this was playing on the TV on the coach, the atmosphere on the coach was amazing as a coach load of scousers watched this classic final

Greatest match of all time. Remember it well. Highest quality and such respect the two had for one another. I really thought Eric was going to do it. Even now watching a re-run I'm sure he's going to do it!

That was intense!
I remember it well, both icons and sporting heroes, footballers get paid more by the hour than they did then but they dont fall around like babies crying and faking, these guys rolled with the punches on tour and took more hostile abuse than most (depending where you were playing), you do that in a footy game you'll get your season ticket revoked. Jockey on the oche and we lot Sid Wadell this year, great memories, NEVER forgotten

About the game they had first to 11 sets bristow was 9 nil up and jockey came back and beat him 11 - 9 what a game that was rip jockey and bristow legends

A guy called Gerald Voo-Doo Ray
He made me laugh once waiting to throw behind the slowest dart thrower to ever compete in the dart world. It did mess with his style and his scoring suffered. I felt bad for him but I had to laugh. :)
Thats when darts was worth watching the two of them were brilliant and the could even have a pint or two then
The difference between Jocky and Eric was that Eric was a bad knobhead after a few pints of beer. He wasn't humble at all which got him into many fights outside of darts.
Rumor has it that, after this match, they were seen pumping each other.

ah i remember this well,i watched first 5 sets n thought ah shit eric lost :( so went to a friends house couple hours later darts still on eric pulled it back 5-4 holy shitttt cmonnnn eric,but jocky won,great final one of the best i ever seen,best is taylor v gregory,mike gregory was never the same after that final.
