The Tulip was the first flower I painted for my book, New Botanical Painting. It is the perfect entry-level flower for all beginners because of its simplicity and speed to create. Here I've revisited the flower after creating that first project two years ago.

No god no. I knew this would one day happen. I've been painting for several years in acrylic, bought some watercolours, cant use them and have forever had zero interest in painting a girly flower. I'm a man who likes knocking walls down, cutting thick wood, fixing leaks, clearing drains etc. Im now off to buy me some quality brushes to paint some tulips. I blame you entirely. I will never be the same again!

Thank you for this fantastic tutorial. I find the different camera angles useful as well seeing your palette and how you're mixing. Including the paint colours in the description is a bonus too as so many tutorials don't seem to reveal these 😮

Today, 8/4/22, I received my copy of your book! I’m very excited to begin! I think it will be the perfect companion to your tutorials. Sometimes it’s difficult for me to paint as I follow the video. Now I have a written and pictorial reference that I can refer to and I can watch any parts I am not quite understanding…i grew up in a time way before TH-cam and now I don’t know what I’d do without it!

Hi Harriet,
I found painting the tulip was much easier than painting the stems and leaves. I think I needed more of a concentrated color on my brush. There is also a delicate balance with dropping in color. A scarce amount of diluted color on the brush worked best for me. The amount of water is key! I need to practice painting stems and leaves.
