    It's so easy to think of all the things going wrong. Good on you two for focusing on how lucky you were. Machines (even the LR's we treat like our children) can always be fixed. You were unhurt, had shelter, cell reception, and wine. Thankfully now it can be a great story. Thanks for sharing. I'm going to pop over to Patreon and send some love.

      I have owned 3 110's over the years. While I have loved them all, I would never delude myself into thinking they were well built or reliable. I am not sure I have ever taken a Defender overland where something didn't break. The amount of spare parts I would tote around with me finally convinced me to try something else.
      The Defender is a fantastically designed truck. It's just put together with crap parts and with almost no attention to detail. Well.... it was built in the midlands after all ;)

      Lucky for us something let go resulting in no drive and us on the side of the road…I think from memory it pushed something through the axle casing…anyway after having many other problems like using more oil than fuel and injector problems they went back to a Mazda which has been fine!

      Lasy year I was in Kyrgyzstan with my Land Cruiser HJ60 I completly broke my two back leaf springs. I managed to drive through Kazkhstan to Russia but driving experience was really tough. So even Land Cruiser s do break down, belive me aspecially when you travel in such conditions as are in Kyrgyzstan.

      @kruzik4x4 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Brad Młodystach There is no maintenance program/strategy for leaf springs. The reason was really tough 4x4 roads (i'm not talking about deep mud but holes and corrugations that put constant straing on the suspension).

    That's bad luck. Been thrashing a defender around the bush for years now, never seen a breakdown like that. Hope it works out well. I'm sure it will.

    It`s absolutely the worst feeling being broken down in a remote place . I`ve got a 130 I bought new 20 years ago , and yeah it has let me down a few times . Despite this I still wouldn`t part with it. Good luck from Australia .

    @ 11:00 That steel cable around the tire looks quite nasty.. Also the steel hooks on the Aluminium rims... More bad news after the damage which happened already..
    Also: the right front wheel should have been taken off so the front axle could rest on the ground: less friction = easier loading.
    To make it even better: put the left wheel straight and fixate the track rod to the diferential with a strap. In that way you can manouvre the recovery truck to get the Landy straight on it.
    There was enought waiting time to do this simple things which would make loading a lot easier and limit the amount of further damage.
    But well... I wasn't there... 😁

    This is why mechanical experience and spare parts for common failure points like this should always be carried. Even on 500 mile rally’s teams carry about a whole extra car of parts
