It's a BMW F650 GS with a lot of load on it. I had a couple of falls, low speed. One crash with a truck, wiped out my left case. I had crash bars installed, no major damage from falling. A lot of breakdowns though. But just because the was a lot of riding in a relatively short period of time for a bike. 21000 km in 3 month and a half. Well, riding was about 1 month in total, from the whole period. Battery drains, some flat tyres, rear shock absorber broke, cooling pump and thermostat blew.
+UKGB Thanks. They're Shuron (dot com). That's the brand, this particular model is Ronsir Zyl and they have black sunglass clip-ons. I also have brown clip-on that also look cool. They're actually the guys who invented this browline model, featured in JFK, Nightcrawler and other movies. Unlike popular belief which attributes the model to Ray-Ban's Wayfarer. Hope this helps.
great video! I followed your trip via jeg.ro but haven't seen your videos so far. Overall were you happy with your bike or would you recommend another? Greetings from Dublin!
+Lucian Irimie I'm a big fan of BMW F650GS (Dakar/Sertao model if you're taller). I used the shorter model myself. Other's have recommended Honda's Africa Twin, Yamaha's Tenere or KTM adventure model. I guess you need to balance these options between your budget and preferences. BMW though pricey offers some cheaper second-hand older models that are very wide spread across Africa, so you should be able to find spare parts and helpful mechanics if you do adventure travel in that neck of the woods.
Well, because it is a dangerous country to be in as a white person with valuables, like motorcycle, cameras, cash etc. and you are generally a target to kidnapping, some police/authorities harassment and terrorist threats.
