Paul a nine weight rod is the best choice and a straight leader made of 10 to 12 lb mono is what the guides all like. You want a reel with a quality drag as these big fish will take some decent runs.
+Sean Dolan Thanks for the email. This show was done in 2013, the flies used were provided by the guides at the lodge and were legal at that time. Like all regulations, you have to always keep yourself up to date when fishing. We are very careful to ensure that at the time/date we shoot any show, we do exactly as the regs require. Some episodes we have shot in other locations, times of year (season), location, barbed or not barbed, all have changed. So we caution all anglers to always check with the lodge, guide, outfitter or local fly shop to ensure you know what the requirements are. Take care, Colin
I almost caught a 3ft atlantic salmon. It's a good thing i didn't. i was using a 3-foot dock runner by Shakespeare. This trophy salmon would have broken my rod, lol 😂
The fish are being kept out of the water way too long.....much easier on the fish if it stays in the water....last time I checked they breathe in the water....just sayin.

Was this filmed in 2015? Double barbed flies were illegal to use in 2015.
