    Good job and good call on replacing the idler pulley even though it seemed fine. You've already changed the belt once and now the tensioner so $20 is cheap insurance.
    Thanks to you and your helper.

    Wife's sante fe is making a god awful noise. The belt and tensioner pulley look like they are rubbing the plastic cover. Thanks for the vid. I will be changing mine tomorrow. !!!

    thanks......very helpful.....I did see that the new tension pulley used a 1/2 drive ratchet to take tension off ( better ) in instead of 3/8 that the factory one had......thanks again....bob

    See the wheel up top right next to the tensioner pulley you had the ratchet on? I'm pretty sure that's what is worn on mine 🤔 it has a bolt on the other side by the grill that you can screw in & out? Anyone know what part to order to replace?

    The wheel next to the tensioner pulley top right, I believe is connected to a 🔩 that will slide either forward or backwards depending which way you turn it? Anyone know what part it is?? What to order to tell the guys @Advance or Auto zone?

    Great video!! How many foot pounds did you tighten the tensioner pulley and idler pulley after you replaced them?

    Does a Hyundai Tucson 2005 have the same schematic as the Santa Fe? I'm trying to replace the serpentine belt but I can't find anything on my car. In this video, can I do the same thing to my car like this vehicle?

    So if the tensioner and idler pulley are connected to the alternator belt then could having put on a new alternator and belt cause either or both of the other two pullys to go bad ? And after the previous comment that specifically might explain why I have had problems getting a full charge to my new battery . used to read 14.4 amps until just after the alternator repair and then stayed at 13.9 running . then I had some work done that became a snafu with my plugs and had to let it sit a month ( long ugly story about 2 broken plugs and idiots working on it )but as soon as I got it back together and the lifters stopped ticking from sitting aemwhile then the idler pulley started screaming . at least I hope its just that I can't afford one more thing till next month. Your video has really helped me understand how these parts look and work together

      Putting a new alternator and belt on won't make the tensioner and idler pulley go bad. I learned that around the time the belt needs changed, the tensioner and idler pulley are due for a change also. Just from normal wear and tear. Thanks for watching!

      You may have gotten a bad alternator.. never buy refurbs off Amazon or any place other than the normal parts stores. Refurbished usually means they just cleaned up on that was traded back for the deposit and rarely do other places aside from reputable parts stores actually refurbish them. Also sometimes when getting a part it isn’t the correct part for the vehicle, clerk could have fat fingered something, but you may have gotten the wrong belt and it could be slipping.

    To remove the pulley from the tensioner itself is it a left hand thread ???

    Had a question about this job i have a 04 sonata my belt tensioner doesn't move so i can loosen the tension. Any suggestions

    • @becausestuffbreaks
      @becausestuffbreaks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know anything about the 04 Sonata, but that sounds like a bad problem if you can't release the tension on the belt.

    Did it make any noise or any other symptom other than the rubbing? My Tucson is not charging the battery very well and when i cold start it, it makes a slight rattling noise. i suspect it may be the tensioner as the alternator tested fine at idle, and i can see some movement in the tensioner at ide

    • @becausestuffbreaks
      @becausestuffbreaks  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No noise. Just a burning rubber smell and rubbing.

  • @gnhun101

    Mine seems to be walking off the other side. It gets shredded by the tensioner arm. I've replaced the idler pulley and the tensioner. Any ideas?

    • @becausestuffbreaks
      @becausestuffbreaks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The belt

    • @gnhun101
      @gnhun101 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I changed that out too. Im thinking maybe the alternator pulley?

    • @becausestuffbreaks
      @becausestuffbreaks  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could be, or AC Compressor. Anything the belt runs on. I would take the belt of and wiggle all the pulleys to make sure there's none that have excess wobble. Also inspect the surface of them all for uneven wear.
