This band teaches about historical events during the many wars our world has seen, they do not pick sides, they just tell the stories that are worth telling. Bismarck was a German ship in WW2, and like the lyrics say, it was the pride of Germany and was meant to rule the 7 seas, it was an incredibly powerful ship that could change the outcome of any battle. On it's maiden voyage it ran into a bit of trouble and it sank the battle cruiser HRM Hood, the pride of the English Navi, but did not come out of that fight unharmed. It then set sail to reach safe harbors for repairs, but.. the sinking of the Hood was met with so much outrage, that every available ship was send after Bismarck, big, small, anything that had at least 1 weapon on board was send to hunt down Bismarck. Because Bismarck was damaged as well, it was not able to maneuver too well and that eventually proved to be fatal for the ship, once the allied forces found her, every single ship unleashed every bit of fire power they had, and after literally 1000's of shells being fired at Bismarck, it slowly began to sink and revenge was served. Several ships even ignored direct orders to seize their fire and just kept on firing until they depleted all their ammunitions, Bismarck stood no chance. The Bismarck captain scribbled the coordinates into that compass you see in the video, and the captain you see is the grandson of the young sailor who was given the compass by the captain of Bismarck, to ensure that the location of the soon to be a war grave that was/is Bismarck today would not be forgotten. The video was shot at those coordinates, where Bismarck sank, and the (amazing!) special effects were created by the game developers of "World of Warships". Yes a game studio gave us Hollywood quality special effects that could easily be used in a full feature movie about Bismarck, outstanding quality. And early in the video, is my favorite part to be found, the image of Bismarck slowly becoming visible in the mist, and in frame you see the ship they used to get there. The ship they used is not exactly small itself, but the imagery of that ship, and the looming Bismarck... that shows how massive Bismarck was, their "little ship" looks like a rowboat compared to the size of Bismarck, and that one shot from the mist shows that beautifully. And then we got the song itself, a true power metal song that reminds me of 80's power metal, with a hint of modern metal (i love it!), and the power of the song just feels right to tell the story of Bismarck i feel, perfect song for the perfect story, with a perfect video. (that's basically the trifecta of perfection lol) And yes, there is a pretty big link between Sabaton and Nightwish, not only are they good friends, the drummer for Sabaton is married to Nightwish singer Floor Jansen, small world right? ;) I'll end my short book here, because if i do not.. well it'll become a big book hehehe. But that's me, if i respect something as much as this song, i tend to want to add as much information as i can, so you'll have to forgive me for the already lengthy post i've created. Thing is.. this is the least amount of words i needed to tell most of the story details, ah well, it is what it is ;) Ty for your lovely reaction Stacey, i hope you'll do more Sabaton songs, they tell many different (forgotten) stories.
It is also important to mention that the guns of the british ships never penetrated the hull of the Bismark. They destroyed the guns of the bismark and when the Captain of the Bismark realized they can't fight back he ordered Maßnahme 5 (Order 5) and placed explosives at the bottom of of the hull to flood his own ship.
The bismark was leaking oil after the battle with the Hood, so it was easier to detected by a plane. Then a carrier send a few very outdated Swordfish-planes to the bismark. One of their torpedos hit the steering. This makes the bismark a easy target because it was not able to manoeuvring.
it was a glorified merchant hunter bc thats what its mission was was to attack convoys, it was ordered to not engage other nations fleets, now it beat a much older hood which by ww2 was definitely obsolete, it held a lot of national propaganda value for both sides but the bismarck was not meant to rule the 7 seas. as was proven by the royal navy.
Sabaton is near single handedly trying to make sure history is not forgotten. I would recommend the animated story of their song "no bullets fly" it's a full summary of the event with the song smashed in the middle.
for me there is 2 best emotional strikes from sabaton: "Christmas Truce" and "En Livsid I Krieg" from Goteborg live ( swedish but with english subtitles)

Sabaton has a history channel just called “Sabaton History” where they go through the inspiration and history behind their songs. Definitely worth a look for historical context and would make some good reaction videos👍
The lead singer is totally the “energizer-bunny” on stage. He runs all over the place like a maniac, and jumps about like a rubber ball. He’s through and through an entertainer, and his energy gets the crowd super-pumped. His grin on stage sort of beams out this ridiculously positive fun “let’s effin go!”-energy. 😁
In fairness I'm not sure you can be any other way when you use a *tank* as a drum riser... Also the only man in the world with at least one indestructible knee that will join the cockroaches and Keith Richards as the only survivors of the apocalypse.
He is like that in person too. A few years ago some friends and I had a chance to hang out with him after a gig and he was very much the same. He approached us and just shot the shit for like an hour in subzero Scottish weather.
Floor's husband Hannes is the current drummer for Sabaton. He is 6.5 and Floor 6.1' so their daughters could be very tall singers later. The captain of the trawler inherited the compass from his grandfather,(the sailor in the water)
If you wanna learn more about the history behind the songs as you go through their catalog, check out the Sabaton History channel, an official channel by Sabaton themselves, entirely dedicated to covering the history behind each of their songs, even the few that are not actually about historic events per say, as well as a little bit about writing each of the songs or why they chose the topic they did and such

Fun fact, Bismarck's ships cat was rescued from the water and went on to survive the sinkings of 2 British warships (HMS Cossack and HMS Ark Royal). He was eventually named Unsinkable Sam.
Graet Reaction. Below an overview of Sabaton and the Bismarck Sabaton is a Swedish heavy metal band known for its distinctive style that often revolves around historical themes, particularly focusing on military history and warfare. The band was formed in 1999 in Falun, Sweden, and its name is derived from a type of military footwear, "sabaton." The lineup of Sabaton has undergone changes over the years, but as of my knowledge cutoff in January 2022, the members include Joakim Brodén (vocals, keyboards), Pär Sundström (bass), Chris Rörland (guitar), Hannes van Dahl (drums), and Tommy Johansson (guitar). Sabaton's music is characterized by powerful vocals, catchy melodies, and heavy guitar riffs. They have gained international recognition for their energetic live performances and the unique approach of creating concept albums based on historical events. The lyrics often tell the stories of battles, heroes, and other significant events from different periods in history. Some of Sabaton's most well-known albums include "Primo Victoria" (2005), "The Art of War" (2008), "Carolus Rex" (2012), and "The Great War" (2019). "Carolus Rex" is particularly noteworthy, as it focuses on the rise and fall of the Swedish Empire during the reign of Charles XII. Sabaton's popularity has extended beyond the metal community, and they have gained a diverse fan base worldwide. The band's dedication to historical storytelling and their energetic performances have contributed to their success in the metal scene. The Bismarck refers to the German battleship Bismarck, one of the most powerful warships of World War II. The ship was named after the German statesman Otto von Bismarck and belonged to the Kriegsmarine, the navy of Nazi Germany. Construction of the Bismarck began in 1936, and the ship was launched on February 14, 1939. It was one of the two ships of the Bismarck class, the other being its sister ship Tirpitz. The Bismarck was approximately 251 meters long and had a maximum speed of over 30 knots (56 km/h). It was armed with eight 38-centimeter guns, a formidable arsenal that made it a formidable opponent. On May 18, 1941, the Bismarck became infamous during the Battle of the Denmark Strait, where it encountered the British battleships HMS Hood and HMS Prince of Wales. The Bismarck sank the HMS Hood but was damaged by the Prince of Wales. The Bismarck managed to escape but was later sunk by the British Navy on May 27, 1941, during the Battle of the Atlantic. The sinking of the Bismarck was a turning point in World War II, illustrating the vulnerability of even the most powerful warships. The British navy launched an extensive hunt to locate and destroy the ship, ultimately involving the British battleships King George V and Rodney, along with aircraft from the Royal Navy. The Bismarck was eventually sunk by torpedo attacks and gunfire. Only 118 of the approximately 2,200 crew members survived the sinking of the ship.
Just a note about how the Bismarck was sunk. The Bismarck had been isolated in the Atlantic and was seeking to return to port when the hunt had begun. Once it had been spotted, RAF aircraft dropped torpedoes (as shown in the music video) most of which didn't amount to much damage but one lucky strike found its way to the steering mechanism of the Bismarck, which forced it to only be able to move at an angle and essentially just go in a circle. Once the Bismarck had been crippled, dozens of Royal Navy warships converged on the Bismarck's location. The Bismarck alone caused and received an incredible amount of damage in the fight that followed. The Bismarck eventually ran out of ammunition which led to the decision to scuttle the ship rather than risk capture and so the ship was sunk by the remaining crew. Though many experts agree that even if the Bismarck could set course for port, it would've eventually sunk from the sustained damage before they saw land
The genre here is powermetal. Related with symphonic metal. By the way: My grandfather served on the Bismarck's sister ship, the Tirpitz. Sorry for my english.
FYI: The Bismarck was a German battleship in WWII, launched in 1940. It was one of the largest and most powerful battleships of its time, armed with eight 15-inch guns and heavily armored. Its speed and firepower made it a significant threat to Allied naval forces, famously sinking the British battlecruiser HMS Hood in 1941. Its presence in the Atlantic caused massive concern for the Allies until it was ultimately sunk after a relentless chase by British forces.
I've been waiting for this... I know I told you a lot about this band, so I'm not going to repeat all of that. The end says "War knows no nation. This video is dedicated to those who fought to the bitter end in the Battle of the Atlantic" Sabaton takes ideas from songs from their fans, and the Bismarck was one of the most requested topics. They recorded this as a stand-alone single as it didn't fit onto an album, but they released it as a thank you to their fans, This video was made by Wargaming as part of a promo for the World Of Warships game. They really outdid themselves with the graphic work in this clip. [They also did the Steel Commanders and Primo Victoria videos for World Of Tanks, but sadly the Primo Victoria video's sound mixing is terrible so I won't recommend that one] Sabaton is more Power Metal than Symphonic Metal, but their drummer is married to Floor, so there is a Nightwish connection. Tommy Johannsen (on guitar) also have his own channel where he releases a cover every Friday.. and they are always brilliant! Some little easter eggs.. the name of the boat they were on said "Primo Victoria" - that was the name of their first album. The boat's captain had the compass that the young guy took from the Bismarck, because it had the final coordinates of the Bismarck engraved in it (by the captain in the video), and apparently the captain of the "sabaton boat" was the son of the last survivor of the Bismarck.

Sabaton is a swedish metalband with a drummer married to a dutch valkyrie 🤘😉 I highly recommend the song "En livstid i krig" live in Gothenburg. BUT if you do it make sure it had SUBTITLES cos they sing in swedish. A very emotional song about swedes being sent to the 30 years war in Europe in the 17th century. Excellent reactions and I am glad you have also found Sabaton 🇸🇪🤘
Welcome to history class Sabaton style! Please do more. They will educate and rock you at the same time. No other band like them! I recommend Christmas Truce, The Red Baron, Lady of the dark,1916, No Bullets Fly are must see. Watch the animated story videos when possible. Except Christmas Truce..official video definately recommended for that one. Enjoy the ride!
YOU WOULD love "Night Witches" by Sabaton. No need to research, it tells the whole story of these women pilots in WW! and even tells the aftermath after the song
"A rock star pirate." I never thought I would hear anyone describe Joakim, the lead singer, like that. But I love it. Other Sabaton songs to react to. "Night Witches." "Christmas Truce." "1916." "Dreadnaughts." "Seven Pillars of Wisdom." "No Bullets Fly." "Screaming Eagles." "Primo Victoria." "40:1."
Hi Stacey! So glad you opened the rabbithole of Sabaton. Sabaton is a swedish metal band and all their songs are about historical events in wartimes. And they do not glorify war or pick sides. They choose to tell the stories of those involved in these historical events. They actually will celebrate their 25th year as a band in 2024. They have their own history channel here on youtube where they inform you more in detail about the songs and stories behind them. Sabaton are frontman and singer Joakim Brodén, Bas guitar Per Sundström, Guitar Chris Rörland, Guitar Tommy Johansson and finally Drummer Hannes Van Dahl. Hannes is married to Floor Jansen from Nightwish. And as you mentioned Sabaton reminds a little bit of Rammstein in how Joakim and Till Lindeman sound and act on stage, the same epic energy. Sabaton are known for their epic live conserts. Some of their videos are animated and others just as grand as this one. If you you are going to react for more of them I would like to suggest these songs/ Videos. Christmas Truce, No bullets fly, Animated video, Make sure to watch to the end. That story is so heart warming. And one of the best live videos ever, En Livstid I Krig / Live - The Great Tour - Gothenburg. And remember to turn on the captions because this is in swedish. But you will get the message for sure. A video with the best fan crowd I have ever seen, Or heard. Well I hope this was a little help and I am looking forward for more awesome reactions from you so thank you! Love from Sweden! 💙💛💙
The name of the boat they were on "Primo Victoria" is another of their songs. The guys froze making this video - Joakim, the singer, was probably bashing his leg to make sure it was still there! My father was in the Royal Australian Navy in WW2 so this video means a lot to me. His ship, HMAS Australia, chased the KMS Scheer but lucky for him and me they didn't catch him that time! He also survived the kamikazes at Leyte and Lingayen Gulf. KMS Bismarck was the most powerful battleship of its time and sank the pride of the British Royal Navy, HMS Hood, before the RN fleet hunted him down. He was scuttled (sunk), after being heavily damaged by the British, by his own crew - to avoid capture. HMS Dorsetshire fired the final torpedoes into the sinking ship but most did not go off. They then rescued some survivors but had to leave because a U-boat was in the area. edit: There is an old, 1950's, movie "Sink The Bismarck" which explains a lot!
I've seen a few interviews of British and German Navy servicemen and the way both explain how the events of the Bismark's final days went down is actually heartwrenching. The German sailors were actually sad and fairly stoic when they sank the Hood, and the British sailors echoed that same thing when the Bismark fell below the waves. This is one of my favorite Sabaton songs.
History buff you say. Well Sabaton - Christmas truce (official music video) is probably right up your alley. Even if you don´t know the story. It´s about the truce between the germans and the allies on Christmas 1914. Make sure to listen even through the credits. There´s an easter egg there that you might enjoy
This is to contribute toward the hunt for the bismarck when they sunk the mighty battlecruiser hood killing 1415/1418 of her crew leaving 3 survivors, the royal navy wanted revenge on bismarck, so they sent out as many ships as they could to sink the bismarck, they started attacking with planes for the ark royal aircraft carrier, then 2 battleships and 2 heavy cruisers sent bismarck to the bottom of the sea
I highly recommend watching the lyric videos “The attack of the dead men”, “Father”, “Dreadnought”, “Stormtroopers”, as well as the clips “Steel commanders” and “Christmas truce”. In general, Sabaton is famous for its ability to show stories from the outside, without indicating who is good and who is bad, and to evoke conflicting emotions, as in the track “Father” (my favorite track at the moment)
There's a great docu on TH-cam about the Bismark if you're interested: "Sink the Bismark 1996 History Channel documentary" Another good one is "Dogfights: chase for the Bismark battleship" also right here on TH-cam There's a good reason they call it the terror of the seas and the story of its few engagements and eventual sinking is real interesting Also yes, the end says The Battle of the Atlantic. Basically all the naval engagements in the Atlantic Ocean during the war
The lead singer did an interview with 'the Charismatic Voice' where he explains that he rolls his R's because English is not his first language and he finds it easier.
Actually, fans requested that they made a song about Bismark, and they did. They also teamed up with War Gaming for the music video. (War Gaming have a game called World of Warships, so the cinematics fit right up their alley. They actually helped out in other music videos as well.)
Another rabbithole to fall down will be their lead guitarist Tommy Johanssen who has his own channel of cover songs. He is an awesome musician and will not disappoint !!!
great reaction, more please. Sabaton is a Swedish band with a loooong list of history based music. Sabaton also has an award winning history channel that gives background to over 100 if their songs (not music award, academic, aimed at education of the public) . Sabaton videos are often have dedictions and/or messages at the end, perhaps not always but... watching to the very end is frequently well worth it. Two covers that are good Defence of Moscow, self explained 1916 about the devastating battle of the somme in ww1, casualties topped 1 milion if you count both sides, all for 6 miles of ground, these are just some, there are plenty more.
Hi Stacey! The Bismarck was the strongest and greatest ship in the german navy in ww2 . The Royal navy were Hunting the Bismarck in the Atlantic ocean. First the Bismarck destroyed the British Battle Ship Hood. After that the Navy started the hunting of the Bismarck and destroy this ship . Great reaction. Sabaton is a Swedish metal band with stories around history. the drummer is the husband from Floor Jansen. The Guitar Player Tommy Johanson is also a unique singer!
Although it is still not 100% sure if the Allies sank the Bismarck or if it was sunk by the crew it self. As surviving crew mates told that after the 3 torpedo hits the First Officer gave order to detonate explosives in the rooms just above the keel.
The itrony of the Bismark is that it was the most modern battleship of its day. It was unleashed in the Atlantic to prey on the convoys keeping Britain in the war, but was hunted down and destroyed before it ever encountered any convoys. In the end, it was crippled by torpedoes dropped by fragile, slow-moving biplanes known as the Fairey Swordfish. They jammed the Bismark's rudder, making it unable to make port before it was surrounded and pounded to pieces by the Royal Navy. In the end, it is uncertain whether the final blows were delivered by more torpedoes from the Swordfish or Captain Lindemann scuttling his own ship. While the scuttling charges apparently did detonate, the ship was almost certainly sinking at the time.
StaceyRPG if you dont know there is a Sabaton History channel, they talk about the history behind all the songs. The sinking of the Bismarck is an historical event. If the Bismarck and his "brother ship" were allowed to roam the seas our history would look very different. Yes the Bismarck was a he and not a she like most ships.
Sabaton : how to enjoy metal music while learning about history in a great, educational and fun way. They are an incredible band, much different from all the others. Enjoy :)
@StaceyRPGReacts sabaton also have a history channel where they go in depth about the history and a little about the song itself i recommend you react to it it's a must if listening to sabaton
Ok, short history about the German battleship Bismarck: it was, at the time, the largest and arguably most powerful battleship ever built. The US and Japan built bigger and more powerful, but they weren't in service yet. Bismarck sailed out on its maiden voyage with a cruiser escort, got intercepted by the Royal Navy's flagship HMS Hood and its escort. In a brief but very violent battle, the Bismarck got a lucky hit on a powder magazine on Hood and blew her up, with 3 survivors out of 1418 crew. Hood was very beloved by the British, so her loss and in such a sudden and violent manner shook the nation. Churchill gave the command for the *entire* Royal Navy to go out and "sink the Bismarck", which, after a several day chase and some dumb luck, they did. Out of 2300 crew on Bismarck, 115 survived. The video, produced by Wargaming (the company behind the naval fleet battle game World of Warships) depicts key moments in the battle to sink Bismarck. War is hell.
The KMS Bismarck was legendary Nazi Germany battleship armed with 2 pairs of 380mm guns and a large number of 140mm guns and a length over 255 meters long…it was eventually destroyed in a furious firefight with an Allied forces fleet and many squadrons of Allied bombers carrying both bombs and unguided torpedoes
this old sailor with this clock in the beginning and end (of cour'se the young sailor we have seen in the opening on the bridge of the "Bismarck") is mindblowing. You should also look "The last battle" (true story too, and unbelievable) or "Wolfpack" ...
Chancellor Otto von Bismarck (1815-1898) was a Prussian and later German statesman and diplomat German battleship Bismarck launched in February 1939 Bismarck and her sister ship Tirpitz were the largest battleships ever built by Germany
Tommy their lead singer actually has an amazing voice and does solo stuff, you should check some of his stuff out. Also after seeing your reaction to the crowd with Ramstein you should check out Sabaton's En Livstid I Krig (With subtitles on). sabaton's productions are outstanding, they make cinematic scenes that beat all the productions that the rest of Sweden can make in the way of film on top of that, they have good lyrics with meaning, learning and good music above all
bismark was the pride of the german navy and its sinking is legendary, i highly recommend looking it up. Sabaton sing about historical events, battles and people deserving of recognition on either side.... and yes as the comments will no doubt be informing you as i type this, the drummer is indeed married to Floor Jansen
The bismarck was one of the biggest and terrifying battleships in europe. It was build by the germans and named by otto von bismarck the cancelor of the german empire. It was in the service of the german navy the kriegsmariene. A little fact that the old sailor in the video is the son of one of the last bismarck survivers who died in 2018.
Bismarck was the flagship of **zi Germany, Tirpitz was the same class. The allies ofc wanted to sink it, but capture the flagship of the enemy nation and show it to the media, humiliating adolf more, so the german crew sunk the ship themselves, most likely by placing explosives on the inside of the ship. Bismarck had only been penetrated two times from all the cannon fire, and it was high up, far away from the water line, where the armour were the very thinnest, everything else missed or bounced off. a Torpedo hit Bismarck rudder, so it could only go in circles, or it would have reached safety. the wreck was found found, the coordinates you see in this video, and they checked all the torpedo walls, all were found and not a single one showed any damage at all. so no enemy torpedo did any real damage that could have sunk the ship. It had to be done ofc, but it is a shame we do not have Bismarck/Tirpitz or Yamato in a museum somewhere
Bismarck was (and still is) the pride of the german navy. The ship was technically years ahead of schedule when it set sail. On its first mission in the Atlantic, it sank the HOOD, a British battleship, with the second salvo, with only 3 of the 1500 crew surviving. Bismarck was now the main target of the British fleet and was abandoned and sunk by the Germans only days later after a heavy battle. Another fact that few people know is that the wreck was discovered in 1989 by Robert Ballard, who had also found the Titanic years earlier.
One of the awesome things that sabaton does is for a lot of the songs they do they have separate videos where they talk about the event their singing about
The Bismarck was a world war 2 German battle ship that had the life span of a butterfly. It was sunk by the British navy before it could escape in to the open Atlantic Ocean where it was supposed to participate in commercial ship raiding when the Germans were trying to strangle British supply lines from the US. There's a good documentary done by James Cameron.
At the beginning he looks at the pocket watch, then the captain of the Bismarck carves the coordinates of the place where the ship is sinking. Then he gives the watch to the sailor and he is rescued and has the watch in his hand. And at the end he looks at the watch again. So he is the sailor who was on the Bismarck,or the son
Also, remember that Sabaton doesn't take sides in the conflicts the sing about. If they sing about the Civil war, they just want to give you the perspective that a soldier has. Every soldier is a person that fights a battle ordered by it's government. North or South... Allies or Nazis. They are not interested in doing anything else then describing what happened to the ones involved. Much love ❤
When she was built Bismarck was seen as more than just a fortress of guns and steel, she was hailed as a fleet killer. Built to rule the Atlantic through sheer force, able to obliterate any ship that stood in her way. The song captures her story all too well
KMS Bismark was a monster of a Battleship. 40% of his displacement mass was devoted to its armor belts. The German navy sent jt out with the escort of KMS Prinz Eugen to act as commerce raiders in the North Atlantic. Spies in Norway were able to alert the Allies that he had sailed and orders came down from Churchill: "Sink the Bismark!". Two Royal navy cruisers, HMS Norfolk and HMS Suffolk shadowed him from outside of weapon range and rltracked it with their radar. HMS Hood and HMS Prince of Wales engaged Bismark and wounded him, causing an oil leak, but the Hood was blown apart with one solid strike. The Grand fleet was also deployed to hunt him down, and Swordfish torpedo planes engaged him after a PBY patrol plane spotted him, and were able to get a torpedo strike on the rudder, causing irreparable damage and causing the strike to be stuck in a turn. Now crippled, the Royal Navy was able to converge on him and they pounded the hull with everything they had. Reports were that the hull was so how from internal fires that sea water was boiling around the water line. The Captain of Bismark finally gave the order to scuttle the ship so that the allies couldn't learn anything from it, nor tow it home as a prize.
Every time someone has their first Sabaton experience i get envious, You have SO many amazing songs to dig into. Let me give you a few songs to start with - 40:1 - Devil dogs - En livstid av krig (in Swedish live in Gothenburg) The final solutions - Night witches - No bullets fly. As for the Bismarck video, the watch you can see in the start of the video when they rent their boat, and then again once the captain on Bismarck puts in the coordinates as they are about to sink and then the boy picks it, and then in the end the captain looks at it and closes it. That is the relative of the last survivor from Bismarck, The last survivor was supposed to play that role, but died before so i think this is his son or grandson. Sabaton always does their absolute best to be historic correct. Welcome among the fans. One lst thing, for fun check out one of the Sabaton Guitarrists Tommy Johansson, he has his own channel on TH-cam and make amazing covers, check him out. Greetings from Sweden
You got to read the story of the Bismarck. It's short, but it could be a script for a movie. The Bismarck was new and she was incredibly mighty. She had 15" artillery, could go 30knots and was heavily armored. Together with the heavy cruiser "Prinz Eugen" she was heading for the Atlantic to hunt allied convoys. The Britains knew, these ships mustn't reach the open atlantic, for when they would, it would be like the fox in the chickens place. So 2 patrolling british heavy cruisers sighted the german ships and radioed for support. Two british ships were sent to stop the germans. The "Prince of Wales" a new Battleship, and the "Hood" a Battlecruiser. The Hood was a symbol for every british as "Britannia rules the waves". She was the biggest ship in the british home fleet and was called the "mighty Hood". At Dusk the ships came into each others sight ... . to lazy to write on > en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Denmark_Strait
So much to be said here, but I'm glad you were prompted to see one of the coolest rock bands out there. Regarding the history of the subject matter, check out Sabaton History channel as they have a full treatment of it there, and it's very entertainingly presented, alongside one of the band members. But essentially it was about the final tracking and destruction of Germany's biggest and baddest sea monster, which Churchill rightly identified as a mortal enemy to England's existence. Other notes: The band has a connection to Nightwish through their drummer, Hannes, who is married to Floor (the man has excellent judgement hehe).
Thanks for your reaction. The Bismarck was the second largest battleship built in Germany. It was only surpassed by its sister ship Tirpitz. Only slightly more than 100 crew members could be saved. The others were either killed by the shelling or sank with the ship. The sinking of the Bismarck led to Germany focussing more on submarine warfare
I like to call Sabaton, "Valor Metal'. They sing of Honor and Bravery in battle. Bismarck was the most feared Battleship in the Atlantic during early WW2. The USS Iowa class was based on lessons learned from the Bismarck. A good movie to watch to better understand The Battle of the Atlantic would be the 1960 movie "Sink the Bismarck". It is free here on YT. It was one of my inspirations to enlist in the US Navy in 1984. I went on to serve on a aircraft carrier in it's engine rooms.
Other great songs: "En Livsid I Krieg" about swedish cavalry in 17th century, "Primo Victoria" about 6th june normandy operation, "Soldier of Heaven" about 1 World War on Winter mountains
Here is something: The "Bismarck" , and his sister ship "Tirpitz", were the 2 largest battleships ever built in Europe (250 meters long, 36 meters wide, and displacing more than 50.000 tones) and they were the pride of the kriegsmarine (Germany's militari navy) during Ww2. The "Bismarck" set sail in May 1941 to reach the Atlantic and destroy merchant convoys, but he was intercepted by the British and during a brief fight, destroyed the former flagship of the British fleet and pride of the Royal Navy, the worldwide famous battlecruiser "Hood", by penetrating her armor and detonating her aft main ammunition magazine and killing all 1900 members of her crew except for 3 men, and heavily damaged the battleship "Prince of Wales". This enraged the prime minister Winston Churcil who ordered all his ships in the Atlantic to abandon their operations and destroy the Bismarck. In total more than 40 ships participated to the hunt, making it the biggest naval hunt in history. Meanwhile Bismarck, who had received a hit during the first battle, was leaking fuel and was trying to reach the French port of Saint Nazaire, in occupied France, for repair. After 6 days of playing cat and mouse with the British, Bismarck was attacked by airplanes launched from the aircraft carrier "Ark Royal" and hit by a torpedo in the stern, which jammed his rudders during evasive manuvers, meaning that he was forced to sail in circles, just a few miles away from reaching air cover. In the end battleships "King George V" and "Rodney", along side the heavy cruisers "Norfolk" and "Dorsedshire" fought the already doomed battleship and, during the following 90 minutes completely destroyed it. However, despite having all his guns destroyed, and having received more than 400 hits (out of the 2800 shells that the British had fired at it) his armor was still mostly intact and the ship was still afloat. So the british launched another 4 torpedoes and he disappeared beneath the waves. After inspection of the wreck however it had been discovered that the torpedoes did no significant damage thanks to the battleship's excellent armor, and that Bismarck had been scuttled by his crew (although it should be noted that many historians believe that it would have eventually sunk due to the damage received). Of the 2200 men that served on it, only 114 survived. The old man seen in the video is the son of the last survivor, who died in 2018, 1 year before this song was released... Sabaton and Nightwish have some connections. They are the best storytellers, they don’t play music, they play feelings, they have the most amazing couple in metal and they have the most devoted fanbase. If there is a war in metal, the Nightwish Army and the Sabaton Army would be allies. Hannes (drummer of Sabaton) once said when Sabaton was traveling with Nightwish, he saw this woman with a whiskey in one hand and a cigar in the other hand, and knew immediately this woman he will marry (And he did!!!). Her name is Floor Jansen 🤘😎🤘
Kudos to Sabaton for actually going out on the open sea in a small trawler to film the band segments instead of using a green screen in a warm and dry studio. Sabaton videos are very well produced and detailed (for more information on the behind the scenes stories, the Sabaton TH-cam channel has several videos about making their music videos) while their live shows are epic and intense with amazing crowd interaction. They frequently team with gaming and animated companies to make the videos, in this case World of Warships created the battle scenes. BTW, internet rumor is that the swinging legs seen briefly as the band ascends the stairs belong to one Floor Jansen, wife of the drummer Hannes van Dahl.
Can you imagine being another ship out there when they were shooting this? You're just minding your own business, tired after a long day upon the ocean waves when, seemingly from nowhere, a Sabaton concert drifts by....
Great reaction. Keep up the great work. Greetings from the big Sabaton fan from Murmansk, The Russian Federation!) The text in the end of the music video says the following: "War knows no nation. This music video is dedicated to those who fought to the bitter end in the Battle of the Atlantic"
I saw them a year ago live and Bismarck was A BLAST. As a german and metal fan listen to them is a Must-have. Bismarck was the jewel of German Reich's Kriegsmarine
In the beginning of the Video, you can hear the Radio in the beginning, when the are driving is talking about How the Bismarck have blown the "The might cruiser Hood" That lead to the British Navy got the message that Bismarck must be destroyed at all costs and lead to Battle of The Denmark Strait. The Kriegsmarine was Nazi Germanys Navy. The Video was made with help from the company behind "World of Tanks" that needed some material to their game "World of Warships". And yes Sabaton really played on a boat in the "middle of nowhere".
"From Wiki" (just a short version). Bismarck was the first of two Bismarck-class battleships built for Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine. Named after Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, the ship was laid down at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg in July 1936 and launched in February 1939. Work was completed in August 1940, when she was commissioned into the German fleet. Bismarck and her sister ship Tirpitz were the largest battleships ever built by Germany, and two of the largest built by any European power. In the course of the warship's eight-month career under its sole commanding officer, Captain Ernst Lindemann, Bismarck conducted only one offensive operation, lasting 8 days in May 1941, codenamed Rheinübung. The ship, along with the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, was to break into the Atlantic Ocean and raid Allied shipping from North America to Great Britain. The two ships were detected several times off Scandinavia, and British naval units were deployed to block their route. At the Battle of the Denmark Strait, the battlecruiser HMS Hood initially engaged Prinz Eugen, probably by mistake, while HMS Prince of Wales engaged Bismarck. In the ensuing battle Hood was destroyed by the combined fire of Bismarck and Prinz Eugen, which then damaged Prince of Wales and forced her retreat. Bismarck suffered sufficient damage from three hits to force an end to the raiding mission. The destruction of Hood spurred a relentless pursuit by the Royal Navy involving dozens of warships. Two days later, heading for occupied France to effect repairs, Bismarck was attacked by 16 obsolescent Fairey Swordfish biplane torpedo bombers from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal; one scored a hit that rendered the battleship's steering gear inoperable. In her final battle the following morning, the already-crippled Bismarck was severely damaged during a sustained engagement with two British battleships and two heavy cruisers, was scuttled by her crew, and sank with heavy loss of life. Most experts agree that the battle damage would have caused her to sink eventually. The wreck was located in June 1989 by Robert Ballard, and has since been further surveyed by several other expeditions..
Sabaton also have a history channel th-cam.com/video/r5D3wSqdIG4/w-d-xo.html&disableadblock=1 Where they talk about each song, the channel is hostet by Indy Neidell an american historian (that lives in Sweden), he is an amazing storyteller, him and one of the Bandmembers often Joakim (the singer) or Pär (the bassist). I cannot recommend you checking this out enough, no matter if you do it before or after on your own, or react to it, there are no wrong way of doing it, but do yourself that favor and check it out.
Apparently a lot of Sabaton fans sent messages to the band asking them to do a song about the Bismarck specifically. As I recall, it was their most requested topic for a song and they decided they had to do it justice. What's even crazier is that this isn't even necessarily their best music video. It was only their best music video at the time it was released. A note on genre: Sabaton is frequently called "power metal" but they will argue if you say that to them. I like to call them "Swedish military history metal." One of the things that makes Sabaton so powerful, in my opinion, is because they sing about major events that really happened. The world we live in today exists largely because of the events you hear about in Sabaton's songs. Also, the bit at the end says "the Battle of the Atlantic." That just means the part of World War II that occurred in the Atlantic Ocean. Here's another fun fact: This is not the only song written about the Bismarck. Johnny Horton also wrote a song called Sink the Bismarck. I liked it a lot when I was younger.
Thank You for the great Reaction 🙂 So you might want to check out one more Band of this genre? Go for Visions of Atlantis. They are great life; saw them in Aschaffenburg/Germany in April last Year. Founded in Austria they become a real European Band over the Years, The Drummer (one of the founders) and the bassist are from Austria, the guitarist from the Czech Republic, the singer is from Italy and the beautiful female soprano singer Clementine from France. After a lot of changes is this the actual line up for a while now and works fantastic together. Btw. The Drummer is the CEO of Napalm records Beside Nightwish they become very fast one off my favorite Bands. You May check out some of their songs like "release my symphony" official life, "Master the Hurricane" or "Legion of the Seas" ore the “deep and the dark“. Also beautiful but slower is "the last home" which I like so much and "Nothing last forever" Please give this Band a try which is in my opinion underrated and deserves much more attention. Many greetings from Germany, Martin
The battleship Bismarck is my favorite because I studied at a German school in Peru and many teachers and parents of my classmates fought in the Second World War. The father of one of my classmates had been on the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen that escorted the Bismarck that time. That had a big impact on me because I could also hear the Germans' point of view firsthand.
(that's basically the trifecta of perfection lol)
And yes, there is a pretty big link between Sabaton and Nightwish, not only are they good friends, the drummer for Sabaton is married to Nightwish singer Floor Jansen, small world right? ;)
I'll end my short book here, because if i do not.. well it'll become a big book hehehe.
But that's me, if i respect something as much as this song, i tend to want to add as much information as i can, so you'll have to forgive me for the already lengthy post i've created.
Thing is.. this is the least amount of words i needed to tell most of the story details, ah well, it is what it is ;)
Ty for your lovely reaction Stacey, i hope you'll do more Sabaton songs, they tell many different (forgotten) stories.
Amazing breakdown, a few edits. HMS (His Majesty's Ship) Hood, and was the British flagship, Navy spelled with a Y.
@@Carimm60 ty for the corrections :)
I would recommend the animated story of their song "no bullets fly" it's a full summary of the event with the song smashed in the middle.
for me there is 2 best emotional strikes from sabaton: "Christmas Truce" and "En Livsid I Krieg" from Goteborg live ( swedish but with english subtitles)
yeah, those are great, then No bullets fly and their cover of Mötirheads 1916.

When i saw them in person he opened their first song of the night charging onto stage in the midst of his singing 😆 it was great
I freaking love Joakim ❤
Floor's husband Hannes is the current drummer for Sabaton.

Sabaton is a masterpiece.
Sabaton is a band. Some of their music might be called as a Masterpiece
Graet Reaction.
Below an overview of Sabaton and the Bismarck
Sabaton is a Swedish heavy metal band known for its distinctive style that often revolves around historical themes, particularly focusing on military history and warfare. The band was formed in 1999 in Falun, Sweden, and its name is derived from a type of military footwear, "sabaton."
The lineup of Sabaton has undergone changes over the years, but as of my knowledge cutoff in January 2022, the members include Joakim Brodén (vocals, keyboards), Pär Sundström (bass), Chris Rörland (guitar), Hannes van Dahl (drums), and Tommy Johansson (guitar).
Joo that’s awesome. Huge respect to your grandfather. He is a very brave man!
My friend's grandfather on the Scharnhorst
This video is dedicated to those who fought to the bitter end in the Battle of the Atlantic"
Sabaton takes ideas from songs from their fans, and the Bismarck was one of the most requested topics. They recorded this as a stand-alone single as it didn't fit onto an album, but they released it as a thank you to their fans,
This video was made by Wargaming as part of a promo for the World Of Warships game. They really outdid themselves with the graphic work in this clip. [They also did the Steel Commanders and Primo Victoria videos for World Of Tanks, but sadly the Primo Victoria video's sound mixing is terrible so I won't recommend that one]
Sabaton is more Power Metal than Symphonic Metal, but their drummer is married to Floor, so there is a Nightwish connection.
Sabaton is awesome in concert too 🤘 i saw them in ANtwerp in feb 2020 and it was awesome i managed to be in the frond of the stage in the pit 😁😁

More Sabaton please! And if you want more symphonic metal bands, Epica is your next stop on that ride. They do some duets with Floor Jansen as well.
I concur
Think of Sabaton as more like historical storytellers than just a metal band. Christmas Truce is one you'll never forget.
Fun fact: the drummer of sabaton is married to floor jansen from nightwish and if you don't know who nightwish is... get ready for a rabbit hole 😂
There's a great docu on TH-cam about the Bismark if you're interested: "Sink the Bismark 1996 History Channel documentary"
Another good one is "Dogfights: chase for the Bismark battleship" also right here on TH-cam
There's a good reason they call it the terror of the seas and the story of its few engagements and eventual sinking is real interesting
Also yes, the end says The Battle of the Atlantic.
Great reaction. You are goin to enjoy so much of your trip into Sabaton-rabbithole.
I agree!😊👍👍
great reaction, more please.

Enjoy :)
I loveeee history so this band is quickly becoming a favorite of mine!!!
@@StaceyRPGReacts All of their songs are about history, you are in for a wild ride :)
@@StaceyRPGReacts "No Bullets fly" will bring you to tears. People say the Yarnhub version is perfect.
@StaceyRPGReacts sabaton also have a history channel where they go in depth about the history and a little about the song itself i recommend you react to it it's a must if listening to sabaton
other Sabaton songs i'd recommend would be No Bullets Fly, Christmas Truce, and 1916
both are great, especially the Animated STORY video of No bullets fly
Sabaton is Swedish power metal with an occasional Symphonic touch thrown in .
The Bismarck, just as the Tirpitz, were the proud of our Navy (Kriegsmarine) in WW2. We really could use them in modernized forms today.
this old sailor with this clock in the beginning and end (of cour'se the young sailor we have seen in the opening on the bridge of the "Bismarck") is mindblowing.
You should also look "The last battle" (true story too, and unbelievable) or "Wolfpack" ...
Chancellor Otto von Bismarck (1815-1898) was a Prussian and later German statesman and diplomat
German battleship Bismarck launched in February 1939
Bismarck and her sister ship Tirpitz were the largest battleships ever built by Germany
SABATON is another one of my favorite bands, they also have a unique sound of their own!
Tommy their lead singer actually has an amazing voice and does solo stuff, you should check some of his stuff out. Also after seeing your reaction to the crowd with Ramstein you should check out Sabaton's En Livstid I Krig (With subtitles on). I think I binge watched all of your reactions last night and I am hooked to your energy and genuine reactions and emotion. Great job and keep em coming!
My favorite Sabaton song. I have always been interested in the Kriegsmarine so this was right up my alley.
The only thing the frustrates me about the video is how many people who watched it seem not to realize just how huge and terrifying the Bismarck was
Quick facts about Sabaton
The drummer (Hannes Van Dahl) is married to Floor Jansen
The guitarist who played that solo is Tommy Johansson, he has his own YT channel and does a lot of covers and turns them more metal
a couple more Sabaton suggestions (always watch to the end of the videos, every second is important)

sabaton's productions are outstanding, they make cinematic scenes that beat all the productions that the rest of Sweden can make in the way of film
on top of that, they have good lyrics with meaning, learning and good music above all
bismark was the pride of the german navy and its sinking is legendary, i highly recommend looking it up.
You should watch Joakim/leadsinger singing Ghost Division live, energy for sure! Sabatons offical live is on nuclear blast records youtube
This song covers the Battle of the Denmark Strait which is a epic naval battle in early 1941. Very much a nail-biter for the British and the Allies
One of the awesome things that sabaton does is for a lot of the songs they do they have separate videos where they talk about the event their singing about
*Insert a "Bismark: "those who know" vs "those who don't know" meme here*
The Bismarck was a world war 2 German battle ship that had the life span of a butterfly.
Much love ❤
Welcome to Sabaton friend reviving legacies and telling stories so that they may not be forgotten.
When she was built Bismarck was seen as more than just a fortress of guns and steel, she was hailed as a fleet killer. Built to rule the Atlantic through sheer force, able to obliterate any ship that stood in her way. The song captures her story all too well
11:54 Battle of the Atlantic
Anything Sabaton is great.
One of my favorites is The Winged Hussars performed live in Warsaw Poland
Totally epic
Christmas truce is an amazing song with a totally different tone. Gives you a good view into the band's range.
You gonna love Sabaton they only sings about history
Sabaton celebrates their 25th anniversary this year! No surprise, they have quite the portfolio by now.
Bismarck is one of my favotite Songs from this Band. Thank you for the Reaction.
I felt the same when I first watched Sabaton's video song - so exciting, entering something very interesting, wow!
Fun fact: The captain of the fishing boat is the son of a sailor from Bismarck who passed away shortly before the videos production
Other great songs: "En Livsid I Krieg" about swedish cavalry in 17th century, "Primo Victoria" about 6th june normandy operation, "Soldier of Heaven" about 1 World War on Winter mountains
Nice reaction.😀
Finally you found sabaton.🤩
Next song=Christmas truce.☺
Then you mustn't forget Tommy Johansson.😍
Guitarist in Sabaton.
I like your joy over the "hair-whips". It made me smile. I think the correct term is "doing the windmill" , when you flip your hair like that.
Fun facet the drummer in sabaton is married to floor jensen from nightwish 🤟
Here is something:
The "Bismarck" , and his sister ship "Tirpitz", were the 2 largest battleships ever built in Europe (250 meters long, 36 meters wide, and displacing more than 50.000 tones) and they were the pride of the kriegsmarine (Germany's militari navy) during Ww2.
Her name is Floor Jansen
🤘😎🤘
Song is amazing, the guitar solo is a masterpiece, and i love how the tempo of the song change twice towards the end.
The Bismark was a heavy battelship of the germans . The song of sabaton is amazing.
@@smiddlehurst1 probably go "huh that's weird" and then do a double-take and lose my shit
Great reaction. Keep up the great work. Greetings from the big Sabaton fan from Murmansk, The Russian Federation!)
The text in the end of the music video says the following:
"War knows no nation. This music video is dedicated to those who fought to the bitter end in the Battle of the Atlantic"
Stacey, to learn more about the ship, visit "sabaton history bismarck". (Almost all Sabaton songs have a short history video explaining them.)
I saw them a year ago live and Bismarck was A BLAST. As a german and metal fan listen to them is a Must-have. Bismarck was the jewel of German Reich's Kriegsmarine
In the beginning of the Video, you can hear the Radio in the beginning, when the are driving is talking about How the Bismarck have blown the "The might cruiser Hood"
That lead to the British Navy got the message that Bismarck must be destroyed at all costs and lead to Battle of The Denmark Strait.
The Kriegsmarine was Nazi Germanys Navy.
The Video was made with help from the company behind "World of Tanks" that needed some material to their game "World of Warships". And yes Sabaton really played on a boat in the "middle of nowhere".
"From Wiki"
(just a short version).
Sabaton also have a history channel th-cam.com/video/r5D3wSqdIG4/w-d-xo.html&disableadblock=1
Where they talk about each song, the channel is hostet by Indy Neidell an american historian (that lives in Sweden), he is an amazing storyteller, him and one of the Bandmembers often Joakim (the singer) or Pär (the bassist).
Btw. The Drummer is the CEO of Napalm records
Beside Nightwish they become very fast one off my favorite Bands.
Black Label Society - In This River (live doom troopin) 🔥 🔥 🔥 25 millions views!!!! In honor of Dimebag Darrelll!!!
FYI the boat Sabaton was on under this song was named Primo Victoria, which is latin for Victory First, or The First Victory.
"I like this intro - It's very dramatic." Pretty much describes any Sabaton video. Great reaction.
If I recall, the drummer is married to that warrior princess, Floor Jansen.
ohh!! a power couple!
1916 Motorhead tribute Sabaton did an amazing job show casing both WW1 and the remaining motorhead members.
Also the Drummer Hannes is Married to Floor Jansen.
This girl's taste in music can no longer be ignored!
