I was like 12 years old and was at this concert at the Providence Civic Center in Providence, RI -- and they shot some of the footage there - swinging from the cable. Tremendous. My introduction to live rock music. They were out of this world entertaining, and the place went nuts for hours. Everyone smoking cigarettes and weed, everyone drinking. That was a different time. People did what they wanted at shows back them. I was a kid looking around in disbelief. 🤣
I was fortunate enough to see VH live in concert 3 times. The ‘Diver Down,’ ‘1984’ and ‘For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge’ tours. This particular vid comes from the 1984 tour in which, to my recollection, the guys did not dangle from guide wires, however, they did wear those very same stage clothes. Van Halen was so much a part of my teenage years and were pretty much THE sound track of the 80’s generation of kids. So glad you guys discovered VH and are enjoying the excitement we 80’s kids experienced with VH. Enjoying your reaction vids guys! Keep rockin! 🤘
I have also seen them 3 times (It wasn't enough, was it?!)....Diver Down (My first truly attended concert), 5150 and the Monsters Of Rock tour when it was at the LA Colosseum (What a day THAT was!).....but I think I may be a little earlier in the generation than you, in that I think of VH as the band that broke out onto the scene in the late '70s and blew everybody's minds.....and I always resist using the reference "80s" with them, although most of their music was released in that decade...because, to me, that takes on a certain connotation that I don't think applies to them...I'm not saying that's what you are implying, BTW. That being said, I too have many memories from the eighties, from my late teens to well into my twenties.....living it up, partying, and even enjoying much of those "eighties hair bands", as well as the other music that permeated that decade......and maybe getting a little growth along the way.....certainly life experience, haha!
Not many people know this song is about a car! lol The "jet" sounds on the slow part came courtesy of the blow drier David attacked Eddie with during that part. It's actually funny. 😊❤️🤘🤘
Original lead singer David Lee Roth, featured here, was/is a black belt in martial arts (I forget which ones), so when you see him doing jump splits off the drum riser, kicks, drop-to-the-floor splits and flourishing a sword or microphone stand, that comes from that training! I'm pretty sure the "swinging on a cable" thing was just for the video. You're right....although they have gone a little darker, from time to time (particularly with the "Fair warning album), Van Halen is mostly about fun.....and could be referred to as "California party rock".......but, to me, their music is best described simply as "Van Halen"....they are unique.
All the stage scenes were filmed inside the Spectrum in Philadelphia. I was at this concert in 1984, they filmed the stuff on wires in the afternoon not at the show. If you notice it’s empty inside the Spectrum during the wire shots.
I think the mountain climbing cables/cords are just for the video since I saw Van Halen in 1982, 1984, (1991?) and 1998 and never saw them use them in concert. I was a teenager in the 80's. Van Halen was the best at a time when rockstars were almost gods. When Van Halen debuted on the national stage in 1978, Eddie's guitar playing was almost like it was from another galaxy since it was so innovative and awesome.
Remember, Van Halen was the opening act for Journey and Black Sabbath and blew away the audience so they were coming early to see them before they hit the top.
I believe the cop's arresting David Lee Roth was staged for the video. The band was always clowning around in their videos. I saw Van Halen in concert just once.
I saw their first concert with Sammy Hagar , Monsters of Rock in 87, although i prefer Diamond Dave. But Michael Anthony was only one swinging during his solo that starts with him chugging Jack Daniels. Probably iced tea or he'd have been dead .
Not an actual arrest with this scene, but there were moments according to Roth that hed be escorted out by security sometimes wearing just shorts or less(towel) My 3rd fave from them Ain't talkin bout love Unchained Panama
Van Halen started the whole party rock era. They were just having fun & being super cool doing it. So every rock band after that was trying to copy their style which eventually morphed into glam rock bcz they were all trying to outdo other bands
THIS is Rock and Roll--and David Lee Roth & the Boys are your Showmen! Interesting geographical factoid: The Panama canal has two entrances, East and West. So does the human head. Dude, why you using only ONE earbud, lol!? Live in STEREO!
Cool to see a Foxygen reaction.. comments aren't enabled so just letting you know it's only partially uploadded. The intentially childish cadence is only on that one song. hopefully you enjoyed the rest.
You guys got a PayPal account. I don't mind sending money on PayPal. I just don't want to be locked in on Patreon where it comes out every month and plus you got to play some. Yes the band. Yes yes. Yes. Yes yes yes start with the '70s early '70s you guys will be hooked
Van Halen was all about having fun and partying !! Their music always puts me in a great mood !! Keep those Van Halen reactions coming !!
RIP Eddie. It's just a video.
The arrest was real. It seems like every 80s band has a naked hotel arrest at some point lmao.
So true!!! Lol

Hi guys I saw Van Halen in concert. They were awesome. RIP Eddie Van Halen. He is a phenomenal guitar 🎸 player.
Not many people know this song is about a car! lol
The "jet" sounds on the slow part came courtesy of the blow drier David attacked Eddie with during that part. It's actually funny.
😊❤️🤘🤘
The van halen brothers timing was so perfect together
So hype, I agree. Even tho I got into college radio (Talking Heads, REM, the Clash, Replacements..) I still go back to VH🎸🔥
I wish I would have seen them in concert…Legendary.
Yes, I was there in concert many times! VH concerts were a party!

The better question should be.... when didn't Van Halen get arrested??? Lol rip, KING
Van Halen rules!!!!
Eddie was the man. Even when I was 10. A knew when a Van Halen song came on, Eddie was going to own it within 30 seconds of the song starting 😂
if you notice they were doing selfies before selfies were invented......🤘
Way to go gentlemen 🤘🏼 You nailed it on all points, I wish you were my son's 🙏🏼
Van Halen - JUMP!! ...... Can't believe you haven't listened to this one yet!?

You listened to a legend.
FYI, the Jack Daniels bass was built from spare bass parts the Mike had laying around.
This should be on everyones playlist.
Such a good song!
#13 billboard hit, but an iconic tune for true Vah Halen fans - Check out "Dance The Night Away" truly one of their best.
Subscribed! Keep the Van Halen coming!
Remember, Van Halen was the opening act for Journey and Black Sabbath and blew away the audience so they were coming early to see them before they hit the top.
"Jump" and "When its Love" are good also.
Best of both worlds live is a fun one to watch and gives you a taste of the Hagar era
About Eddioe's car... named panama... the engine sounds are heard in the slow portion....
Fun video from the greatest American rock band Ever!
I believe the cop's arresting David Lee Roth was staged for the video. The band was always clowning around in their videos. I saw Van Halen in concert just once.

Its feel good, party rock. !!!
Eddie was the epitome of the term 'Guitar god'. AKA 'Mozart of Rock'. 🎸✝ ~Jenn-X
Not an actual arrest with this scene, but there were moments according to Roth that hed be escorted out by security sometimes wearing just shorts or less(towel)

I’ve seen them 3 times, I never seen them on a cable and going across the stage. Diamond Dave is the best front man EVER….
Love it!!!
Love the reaction. You guys must check out Train in Vain by the Clash. If you love guitar riffs, this one will have y’all OUT YOUR SEATS!! ❤❤
Nice video!!
EVH probably inspired more people to pick up the guitar than anybody else

Unchained is good too
Told ya
Listen to even flow by pearl jam and they have other great songs.
A really good B-tier group with a A-tier guitar player. Never thought their songwriting was special.
David Lee Roth wrote the Lyrics & Edward Van Halen composed the Music 😉
I own 3 V-H ALBUMS.....VAN HALEN 1 "THERE BEST DEBUT"
VAN HALEN 2 GREAT ALBUM
VAN HALEN 1984
I was never a serious fan of them.
EVH rewrote how to play the guitar. NO one sounded even close to this at the time.
the 80s was fuckedup
Dwvid Lee Roth. Yankee Rose.
