Imagine if Marvel does a Nintendo Direct for comic books? You get a couple of creatives to speak for a bit (either presenting or an interview about their new book) and do announcements.
Thats was basically the Rebirth announcement but ya know that like 7 years ago and they have done it since. But yes ur right they should do that more often and not only when doing any kind of reboot
@@deltafive_o-first2417 I’ve never seen the rebirth thing but yeah it would be awesome for this be done on a consistent basis. It gets everyone aware and it prevents people from hunting articles as well lol
45:13 Brainiac is also making moves in the Milestone books right now. I wonder if Worlds Collide and whatever the Dawn of DC event is will be related, or the same thing.
16:15 No he didn't, he suddenly stopped doing the book. He was building up towards a big Thanos story where he got Mjorlin with the infinity stones and a new guantlet that let him control zombies or something
I stopped reading Thor after the Blake arc. I was hoping to hop back in once we finally got that big Thanos battle teased so early in the run. I hope that Ewing is going to pick up some of that and make it work
Yeah, I think expensiveness of comics as a hobby is definitely a big part of the problem with entering it. I think recently marvel has been improving its trade paperback line by giving a reading guide for graphic novels in the front and back covers, but I don't think they're doing the same for floppys.
I’m trans and when the trailer came out for ATSV I saw the “protect trans kids” stickers and whatever but didn’t think Gwen was trans. I just thought she’s an ally. 🤷🏽♀️ Superheroes can definitely be an allegory for otherness/queerness and I’ve felt that a lot over my 30ish years of reading/watching. (Especially X-men and Animorphs.) Art is subjective, so everybody gets something different out of it. A cis/het person probably gets something different out of stuff than I do. 🤷🏽♀️ With all that being said, I love Gwen (in comics and ATSV) and can’t wait to read/watch more of her.
I was just broken up with this week...and yes, to Sal's point, breakup reminders are EVERYWHERE...including this video...a video about Spider-Man India, and the Dawn of DC.
@@superjlk_9538 so in Marvel’s infinite multiverse they could change whatever they want and just say she’s from a different universe from the spider-gwen we know in the comics? Just like we already do with all the different peters?
The whole spider Gwen has existed for ten years things reminds me of the time my uncle was talking about how marvel has this new black panther character back when the first movie came out and I’m like he’s existed since the 1960s
About Gwen, I figured that the Into the Spiderverse characters are all from their own universe, so they can have differences from the comics. I think they said Peter B was from 616-B, and since Spider-Woman seemed to be different, I figured they took some liberty with Gwen's character. I think its ambiguous to whether she is or isn't trans, and that in itself is its own cool message
I think the perception of new readers and long time readers is extremely interesting. I’ve read comics my whole life but only started reading dc from dark crisis through current day dawn of DC and I’m loving it I’m trying out most of the line to see which hero’s I like and zdarsky Batman and anything by Josh Williamson has been incredible. I’ve basically just been reading amazing Spider-Man for the past 20 years but have finally had enough and dropped the book. So either dawn of DC is that awesome or just literally anything is an improvement from current Spider-Man books loll
One thing I really enjoy when they do it is the check list so you can kinda get an idea of what might be relevant and when it sorta takes place. I also miss more ads of comics in comics remember when dc or marvel had ads in each others books 😂😂
As one of the thousands pushing the Gwen is trans stuff I know she’s probably not but the obvious allegories for coming out as whatever plus everything else with her colors and the sign in her room etc
I don't know if Gwen is Trans, and it may have just been the artists putting in their own views, but she did have Protect Trans Kids on her wall, so she at least supports that canonically within the Spider-verse movies.
I’m excited for predators coming to marvel!! I think wolverine is the best hero to start for the predator to fight!! If this does good I think Spider-Man vs predator. And here’s my pitch someone has been hunting all the animalistic villains rhino, lizard, scorpion, ect so Spider-Man has to figure out who’s been hunting them. And his first instinct is kraven and he goes to him and kraven tells Spider-Man something hunting him as well. So he finds out it’s the predator.
Great discussion! 2:13 Regardless not knowing who or what Gwen is in the comics, in the movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse they made the character trans, the story is about Gwen struggling to come out as Trans, Sony deliberately did it subliminally and hid it in the story. Put the death of Peter in the background focus on the story with Gwen's father, the identity reveal to him was the coming out (Gwen being trans), his lack of acceptance, then when Gwen returned home after all that time he realized how much Gwen meant to him regardless of Gwen being trans. Sony hiding it the way they did help them avoid backlash and they can change the character if they get found out! However I don't like the way they took this social engineering route at all.
It was a trans allegory and she isn’t confirmed as trans at all. It is ambiguous and we know she is an ally. It’s like in X2 when Bobby is asked by his mom to stop being a mutant and it’s an allegory for being gay, but Bobby himself isn’t gay in the movie.
@@DanV900 Wait a minute in order for something to be allegory in terms of a hidden meaning then that doesn't negate Gwen being trans does it? To suggest Sony is pushing the trans narrative by using Gwen to not be one is absolute ludicious.
@@DanV900 If you need Sony to confirm or Marvel to tell you Gwen is trans then you don't understand the woke agenda and how it works. The movie is a social engineering tool, it is done subluminal, the obvious reason they have chosen not to do it in this way is because they don't want woke backlash which would harm the the sales of the movie. Sony is only hiding it so they can gage what people will think first. Their not going to do Marvels approach of sticking two fingers up to the fans. By the 3rd movie they will either say it or not risk it. Gwen is Trans!
@@DanV900 Gwen's story beats with her father is the key for knowing that Gwen is Trans, it's not about Gwen's part in the death of Peter (that's a cover), the hiding of the identity from the father and not being able to tell him is one of the key beats, revealing that Gwen is trans. When the identity is finally revealed that's the coming out and father has hard time accepting it. When Gwen goes back to him after being away, that's when he accepts that Gwen is trans. Go back to all those parts and take out the death of peter saga of the story!
@@DanV900 Finally the subliminal line from the Spot paraphrasing: "I think I'm becoming a trans-dimensional super being.", key word trans-dimensional super being, scene after further cements it to the mind, the Spot says: "my holes are not a curse, they are the answer". There's more to that scene. The structure to that scene is very crude and very clear in meaning, its not just a funny joke. Also the Peter and MJ scene very brief on raising a child, it cuts to Gwen then back to them, listen to the dialog carefully, very clever when it gets to Gwen's father scene.
About the pin comment around min 9. Why would the comendation pin be done in Spider-Woman's colors? She was a wanted fugitive, she is not a celeb she is not even seen as a hero by the police in any way they think she murdered an innocent high school kid. So why would do be doing that in her colors?

Is the comic book spider Gwen the same spider Gwen as the movies?
Only the backstory. It’s exactly the same as the comic origin for Spider-Gwen.

What happened to Geoff Johns? He was one of the best writers for DC
If Donny Cates comes back to Marvel, I'd love to see him write a Predator crossover. Me personally would love to see a Predator vs Man-Thing or Venom.

Engagement and interaction with creator to please the mathemagics that choses what gets seen or not.

If spider - gwen is trans wouldn’t that make Peter Parker bi ?
No
These days I doubt 50 percent of readers even understand who Gwen really is. It's odd her and Peter barely interact
