The Panther medium tank is one of the best German vehicles in all of War Thunder. The Ersatz M10 is probably the rarest version of it, masquerading as a US vehicle.

This thing has only fooled me once, when it was in my team in Sim battles. I saw something move near some bushes, looked like an M10, I shoot it twice and was perplexed by how neither round went through its UPF, and then someone spammed in chat NO SHOOT THE M10 PANTHER!!. Man I was really bamboozled that moment

@shahramtondkarmobarakie1824 it was Leander leased to the soviets, like nearly every other vehicle was, this is a paste from something I found on reddit that is explaining a book written by a soviet solider who used one in the 1239th self propelled regiment
In the article Finyutin speaks glowingly of the M10's firepower, excellent optics, and easy turret traverse. He does complain about the open-topped turret and compares the M10's mobility and armor unfavorably with the T-34, although it was certainly no worse than the SU-76. He also praises the usefulness of the .50-cal heavy machinegun, which he specifically mentions as being mounted atop the turret counterweights. OTOH, he does mistakenly credit the M10 with an 85mm gun…
Personally whenever I play sim if you bring a 'captured' or a leased tank I can't care less, if I'm in a Panzer and see a T34 or KV, a Sherman or an M24 or M18 it's an instabooom. Unless they put warning decals, type in chat and report position frequently, which they never do.
I mean, to be fair, PzIV's were commonly mistaken for Tiger's because "IT'S BOX SHAPED! IT'S A TIGER!"
Spookston casually forgetting that while the Ersatz looks barely like an M10 in Warthunder, in real combat at 600m+ engagament distances through gunner sights, it looked damn close enough.

Weren't these primarily deployed during the battle or the bulge? I can't imagine they were duking it out over 600+ meters

One of my favorite paint jobs I have ever given a tank in War Thunder was putting the PANTHER decal on the side of my M10. It's about as effective at fooling the Germans as the Ersatz Panther was at fooling the Americans.

Ashamed to say I've actually been fooled by it once. It was hulled down about 900m away and I slung a HE round at it only to see the turret slowly turn towards me and return fire
In real life this thing was used during the battle of the bulge in the middle of winter, so the limited visibility and weather, of course, helped this Panther fool the allies for a short time
i love this thing so much, i have 1500 matches in it and it’s a joy to play

The biggest quest for German players is to find out what happened to the rest of the team after the push. Most are dead, but there may be a wiesel in a bush somewhere.
especially when you're playing an urban map and you see a single guy wiping out half of your team in the first 2 minutes

You might know this Spooky, but Panthers can pen the Jumbo's turret frontally. You don't have to aim for the MG port
Hell depending on the range it can even pen the upper front plate.
I've done it multiple times with the French Panther Dauphine as well as the M4A1 FL10 and M4A4 SA50.
I always love when friendlies pop smoke and help literally noone but the enemy. Like the enemy who shot them still got they barrel trained on them and just have to blind fire if the first shot immobilised.
I think the real biggest advantage of this thing is that it has a faster turret traverse speed than all the other Panthers for some reason. It's like an extra 3⁰ per second faster than the A/G, which isnt huge but absolutely can make a difference.
Spook a little correction.
The MM is designed to have 8 top BR vehicles in it.
It does not matter if it is a 10 v 10 or 24v24.
These 8 can also all be in the same team.
Hence why sometimes it fells like everything you face is 1br above you, because it probably is.
The worst I ever had was a 10v10 with 7 top Brs against my team and my team having 1 top BR vehicle (the rest of his lineup was 5.3 in a 6.0 match)
I wish their system worked like WOT where each side had the same amount of high MM vehicles. This is also a huge issue with air RB where one team can be full of mig19s and f104s in a full downtier and all you got are 8.7s and 8.3s. Like it is shockingly common in the 8.0 to 10.0 bracket especially.
So this is probably why all my matches are complete genocides in one way or the other?
The irony is the system is supposed to function to where there is 25% of the each team can be top tier, but the matchmaker must’ve been borked so that doesn’t work as intended anymore. Le Spaghetti Code, as always.
ok..makes sence....for longer time I was wondering why my team in full uptires NEVER spawns any +1.0BR vehicles....cause the enemy team has them :)
@kommandantkillcode another fun fact. 0.7mm exists and has none of these issues as in it 50% of vehicles of each team are bottom and mid BR and the rest is top BR.
Those are fixed numbers and the MM can not break them
So 0.7mm spread would not only fix BR compression by mimicking a 16.7BR range, it would also fix matchmaking imbalanced due to BR allocation issues.
I don't think it was meant to fool anyone closer than a couple hundred meters. But from far away the silloutte looks very similar.

As bad as the M10 disguise is, I have actually fallen for it before and lobbed an HE shell at the side of a Panther. Luckily it was a Germany player so they didn’t notice, but it still made me reflect on my life choices for a second.

As a Bulldog enjoyer, sometimes the hull just manifests void shields and teleports impacting shells into space or something.
you should try AMX M4 since it can frontally pen panthers and jumbo (and PCO-50 pen value increase buff)
edit: it can face fully uptiered panthers and jumbos

No try the Leopard 40/70 at 5.0 holy crap people hate running into that thing believe this, plus its just almost like the R3 back when it was at 3.3 or whatever it was at back in the day when it was OP as F@cK its fast and you barely see the thing but the new Leopard 40/70 is fast and you DON'T WANT to see the thing ....... very broken spaa at 5.0 it will be going up so take advantage asap.

You should check out the AMX-10M! Both it and it’s AMX-10P brother are really fun, and having the ACRA at 7.3 has become my dedicated Maus killer.

Fun fact, this M10 disguise was used during the battle of the Ardennes in 1944 near La Gleize.
Legit my favorite Panther in game. Even without the Ersatz paintjob it’s just a cool looking Panther.
Can you play the jagtiger. Pure balance at 6.7, defenetly not OP.
Try out the Breda 501. It has decent penetration, great speed and an ammo depots worth of explosive filler.

funfact the muzzle breaks on the M-10 panthers where actualy removed to make it look more like an m10 why gijin didnt make that simple change is beyond me other then to make it look like less of a war crime
I don't remember the exact camo name but for the Tiger E the Tricolor MHN or the one that looks like chocolatw lines over it looks really nice at 72% size

I don't feel like editing my comment and I'm hoping another comment kinda boosts it into the algorithm. But the Panther F has a decent turret traverse speed for the Panthers. I really like it, it has eyes. It's really fun, but America 5.7 is only uptiers so Germany is going to be fun to me.

I don't know why, but I feel like the Bulldog's APDS round was slightly buffed. I played a match on Normandy and did some damage with it. Up to three or four kills per life before I ran out of backups and had to resort to the T26 and M26

If you need a break from the shenanigans of the higher tiers, may I recommend the Char B1 Bis.
Given the recent BR changes, the only tiger variant or tiger-like variant left at 5.3 is the VK 45.01 (P). I never really saw it used before but I think you should play it and see if it's better then it was.

2:30 I wish tank engines were just quieter. I love being deafened, having to drop my volume a ton, then spawning a plane and having to triple it, esp because I have to go and do that in the volume mixer if I want to listen to something while I play.
War Thunder volume set to 10 in settings, set to 20% on windows mixer. Still can't hear discord at 500% volume. Finish a game and have to turn all the settings WAY up because the next game is dead silent

Spookston, I think I'm getting your CAS curse now. Just yesterday I screwed up a round and was forced to play battle SPAA. I make it to the B point and have a building directly to my left, a tall building behind me, to my right, and infront of me.
This son of a gun comes through with his plane, slots the bomb in the tiniest area just to kill me, there were no teammates around me.
The bomb was a 500 pounder.
The bomb landed on me.
I now understand true pain
