Looove this idea! Just a suggestion, for the opening on the front panel, you can try and add a little button to the top most part of the gap. This way you can close it and turn the gap into a small grommet whenever you want + the yarn won't keep popping out as you walk around and work. You'll always have the option to open the button and remove your yarn too!
