Histoires De Parfums 1740 Marquis De Sade Review
This is my Histoires De Parfums 1740 Marquis De Sade review. Even though I've known about Histoires De Parfums for quite some time now and own Histoires De Parfums 1889 Moulin Rouge it's been quite some time since I have obtained 1740 Marquis De Sade. I also really love the idea of combining history with perfumes. I'm really obsessed with history especially with European history and combining it with perfumes is a win win for me. This perfume is all about the Marquis De Sade though and the year the Marquis De Sade was born is 1740 and that is what the fragrance is called 1740 Marquis De Sade. Marquis De Sade is known for bondage and sadism and the sadism comes from his last name Sade. The fragrance is inspired by the Marquis De Sade and the inspiration is very fitting. The fragrance combines the best of leather, patchouli and woody notes and is really a masculine chypree. An intoxicating combo of notes which also uses Davana Sensualis which is basically artemesia. Artemesia smells of licorice, anise or absinth and here in 1740 Marquis De Sade it starts off the fragrance with a boozy woody quality. I love Histoires De Parfums 1740 Marquis De Sade and am ready to explore the house of Histoires De Parfums further.

This one of the best patchouli and leather combo. Try it after you are 1 or 2 years in your fragrance journey. Great video. Take care

Patchouli doesn’t say “intoxicating” but rather “hippie” to me lol. There are a lot of patchouli though and they can present quite differently when using different types and when mixed and complimented by other notes. So it can be hit or miss. I do like the historical theme of the house. I hope to smell more of their frags.

    Thanks for nice review!!!
I think the idea of connecting history and perfume is very interesting.
But I did not find a big connecting of 1725 Casanova with Casanova person.

I love 1740. I bought the 15ml travel size from the Perfume House here in Portland about two years ago, and it's getting close to full bottle time. I like many of the fragrances in the line, Ambre 114, Noir Patchouli, 1725, but I have to say that 1740 is my favorite. It just smells *niche*, if that makes sense. Cheers, Sebastian!

I'm an English major and took a master's individual study on subordinate and dominant roles in literature. I read lots of de Sade and Sacher von Masoch. I tried and like this one. On me, it is smoke then a bit of sweet fruit then dries down to soft smoke/charcoal, and in the final base is lovely amber but all skin scent. No projection as most HdP. Not many have read 100 days of sodom. But, the best de Sade IMO is Justine.

Yes , this a nice patchouli based fragrance, yet I personally don't get any leather.
On my skin I get an interesting patchouli, coriander and immortelle accord, with a hint of the labdanum, creating an almost a savory gourmandy effect. Almost like a curried patchouli! I believe I get a hint of a dry greeness from the artemsia, with a pleasantly sweet bergamot lurking beneath the party.
Okay, sounds strange, but fascinating effect. Histoires de Parfums is an excellent house, creating a consistently solid line of juices. Great review, mahalo!

I love dark, woody, boozy, earthy and intoxicating perfumes, so Histoires de Parfums 1740 Marquis de Sade is definitely for me and I am ready to be enslaved. My favorite Histoires de Parfums is Tubereuse 3 Animale.

Hello. Do you have Marquis de Sade name on the side of the box (or bottle). As i know new versions of this perfume comes whithout Maerquis de Sade name, there is Cuir and.... Also alchoqol size 79% in new version (old 81%). Which one you have? on my experience, I know that the flavors of the old and new release are slightly different (old ones with a more pronounced leather chord)

I made the mistake of blind buying 1740 based on general consensus of agreeably positive masculine notes and accords (e.g. leather. tobacco, booze, patchouli, etc). What people failed to mention about 1740 is that it mostly projects a nauseating "grandmother" smell of baby powder, and attic moth balls. Think expired talc powder of violet, lavender, and jasmine. And this is the dominant profile from start to finish. So yes, masculinity exists, faintly in 1740, but it scarcely matters as its drowned in a bath of sickly sweet expired powders. If you want to smell masculine or sexy, this is definitely not it. If you want to smell like grandma's corpse, this is the "daring/bold" being spoken of here.

One of the worst perfumes that brings melancholy to this house, and the house of Lutens tweeting out of the flock 1740 is amber sultan from Lutens. I do not advise sensitive noses to use this suffocating, gloomy fragrance
