So fun fact some people don't know is that "Slender the arrival" is actually a sequel to the original "Slender the 8 Pages". In the 8 Pages(and the Genesis chapter), you are playing Kate leading up to the bit mentioned in one of the early notes where CR found her passed out behind her house.
Fun Fact:The original creator of Slenderman was actually inspired by H.P Lovecraft, so in a way, Slenderman is actually a Eldritch/Cosmic/Lovecraftian Horror Monster... Edit:I started a war all because I wanted to share a fun fact🥲

That's not true at all. I was actively in the Something Awful thread that gave rise to what became Slenderman. The entire idea was about modern legends/cryptids. All the other stuff came much later.

They were all friends and they decided to do that to her. What ended up happening was that she crawled out of where they "dug" her in, and a man found her. The other two were walking miles away from the injured friend in the Forest. They were doing what the slenderman was asking them to do. Both of them admitted what the did almost immediately when caught. The cops couldn't find the maker of the website for the slenderman but the two girls were held accountable. All three girls were 12 years old.
Apparently one of the girls had a mental condition that caused her to see things which she inherited from her dad. But the dad assumed she would figure out that the things she was seeing were not real like how he did growing up. Other girl got dragged into it though she still helped
@@randomgamer3757 Since it seems like her condition utilized the shape and form of a creature from internet culture, with fake sightings written online, it's not much of a surprise that she found it difficult to differentiate it from reality. Actually slenderman does walk, or at least in this game he did. In the old version of the game if you looked at him long enough he would start walking towards you. He doesn't do it in this version though sadly, but they might add it back in. Since the remake was released there have been 2 patches to sort some things out and they plan on updating the game more in the following months, including adding a multiplayer. Also next year there will be a DLC that adds 3 new levels and new characters.
I love that this comes right after Eight Pages, you being Kate in the first game and then CR finding you out there and bringing you back, only for Kate to become the latest victim/proxy. Then the new MC, goes out there to check on her, only to be lured into the forest by her screams as she runs from Slenderman after diving out of her window Texas Chainsaw Massacre style.
CR’s name is Carl Ross, and isn’t connected to other characters other than being Kate’s friend and telling her not to get Lauren involved. The hospital chapter is a nightmare that Charlie Matheson SR experiences while committing suicide. The only two characters in HIS grasp that didn’t commit suicide are seen as the proxies - Kate, Charlie Matheson JR, and now possibly Lauren.
Adding to that of Slenderman being more of a cosmic horror than supernatural, it kinda also reminds me of how cosmic horror has some similarities with some Asian horrors: doesn't matter whether you are a good or a bad person, you just happen to stumble upon a bad place at a bad time. A difference I may add is that Asian horrors tend to show the people "fucking around and finding out" trope because you've more likely disturbed someone else's peace, while in cosmic horrors those creatures will fuck you regardless.
Yeah didn't the creator say that the point was to create a creature with unknowable motives. They take that a bit further by making people go insane the more you try to find out what it what's with the "slender sickness".
I find it funny at 12:06 for a split second you see slender watching you on the top left but quickly teleports away. He knew you were talking about him stalking you.
It’s nice to see that Slenderman gained some attention now due to the update in Slender: the arrival. Though I wish popular gaming TH-camrs played it so it could potentially bring Slender back to the spotlight.
Honestly, your breakdown and analysis of Slenderman and the link to cosmic horror was really good. He has many things in common with cosmic/eldritch horrors. He is an entity beyond comprehension, with goals beyond understanding. He brings about madness and eventual death or loss of self to whoever is exposed to him, he seems to have his own grasp of reality with no regard for the rules and laws of nature that we know of, and the creator stated Slenderman was inspired by Lovecraftian entities. Well done!
10 years and this game still creeps me out, I think the ambience and the sound effects when you’re not with people and talking, but really putting yourself into the game, it puts you in a scary place 😮
I noticed at 30:00 when you entered the mine you added a pinch of reverb to your voice. Not only does your content seem genuine, but those little creative choices and details highlight the atmosphere of the game rather than detract (like some over-reactors with constant SFX for stimulation). Your commitment to enjoying games while providing an entertaining experience, both through you and the game you play, really shine through here as a new viewer and I can see why your content seems to be greatly appreciated by many people
It's really nice seeing slender making his grand return after so many years of drama and his awful movie. Hope we get more slender games in the future!
This video made me remember that horrible slender man 2018 and the concept of slender man being a cosmic entity gave me a great idea for a movie that wouldn’t suck. Instead of some tech ghost or whatever they said he was in 2018, he’s this ancient horror that’s been around for years like pennywise. But he doesn’t have a physical body like pennywise, in reality he is a being in a higher dimension that can only see into our dimension and show an avatar. It’s avatar can take the appearance of whatever will be recognizable at the time, like how in modern day he looks like a man in a suit. But obviously because he’s a inconceivable monster the avatar still looks very inhuman. As for why he effects electronics like cameras the explanation could be that his avatar is able to give off a unknown cosmic radiation/energy that effects them. Now with this avatar he’s capable of effecting the mind and senses of his victims by making them hallucinate, hear things, etc. all to make them go mad. But this only applies to people with weak mental strength like the sick, mentally ill, or children. Since slender man has no physical body to interact with the mentally strong he has to create proxies from his victims. Not all of his victims will be proxies, just 2 or 3 in whatever are of the world he’s stalking in. These proxies will be used to kill off his victims and any strong minded people he wishes dead. He could also give them some sort of otherworldly power that makes them stronger and live longer, which would explain how the children proxies can be so deadly and still be alive despite looking like literal husks. As for why he wants to kill people, I don’t know. I don’t know and I don’t want to know. That’s what makes cosmic horror scary, and explaining it as “he does it to consume the souls/life energy of the ones he kills” does still make him sound like a powerful being but also ends up making him less scary since he’s explained. Sorry for the rambling I’m taking a shit right now and I’m in thinking mode.
@@chloesibilla8199 I mean it could be, but I usually hate when movies try and make their monsters deep and make messages. Sometimes I prefer the unexplainable monster to just be a unexplainable monster
7 months late but crazy thing is Pennywise is also an avatar for a cosmic entity, The Deadlights. Even though they kill the avatar the "real body" still exists outside of all existence. Similar to the idea of taking an appearance of something recognizable for the times, Pennywise does something similar except he's got control over his appearance and specifically takes the form of your fears because you taste better that way. Although I'm sure you know about that last part.
Pretty much Marble Hornets. It has a similar concept and is a fantastic found footage horror 'film' with like 8 hours lol, definitely recommend - one of the actors for MH was listed as a developer for this game too
The word you saw on the one page „Verzweiflung“ is german and means despair. It could be a refrence to german fairy tales, which also are often about that topic and how to escape it. Love your content❤❤
I was into the Slenderman lore when it was popular years ago. And back then I considered it to be a sort of interdimensional entity, because "cosmic horror" wasn't as much of a thing back then (to my knowledge anyway). Now, it being a cosmic entity makes a lot of sense! Seeing The Arrival remastered was a treat! Looks great and still holds up! Noticed in the new bit Red Deer got a mention. That's a town near where I live! seeing that barn and the silos was also really familiar. See them a lot in rural areas here, rusted out and roofs caving in. Cool to see Slenderman is in my neck of the woods! :V
The amount of excitement I feel whenever I see a new IGP video is insane. Keep uploading great content!! Anybody catch a picture of a family pop up at at 13:16??
I’d love to see a multi player online version of this where you get a whole town and one of the inhabitants found Kate knocked out or something and brings her into town and due to her being there slender man comes and the last person to survive becomes the new proxy.
A while ago I was doing research on cryptids, and out of curiosity i tried to see if slenderman had any origins outside of creepypasta. I found something very interesting... In Native American belief there is a being called the tall man spirit; and there are as far as i can tell two depictions of it. One was shown on Reservation Dogs, and it was shown/described to be a tall creature somewhat similar to bigfoot, with glowing red eyes. This one was seen more as a protector of the forest. The other depiction however, is that of a extremely tall (anywhere from 7-15 feet in height) pale, and faceless humanoid figure. It is known to wear a black suit along with a black stove top hat. This depiction is seen as a figure of death, who uses mind control to make vulnerable people end their lives. Is slenderman connected with this cryptid? Maybe, but someone could have also invented him on their own. Just some food for thought
I would not be surprised if the second one was the natives making a cryptid based on their fear of the White man. Aka those who came and killed everything in their path stealing their land.
I love how this has been established now, making this cosmic can turn this into some many things like slenderman having some kind of connection with the yellow king or something similar I’m stoked!!
You’re right, the girl did crawl her way to help like a badass! One of the girls were released on supervised watch but has recently had her ankle monitor removed. The other girl is still in an asylum.
CR was Carl Ross, a boy who had similar hallucinations as Kate, and while writing her, grew to have feelings. The only time you see his full name is during the prologue as theres a note near the trash that says his name.
I think we can all agree the worst feelings in horror games is being chased, being watched, and not knowing what is doing the previous two. Slender brought all of those feeling together and we all love it. Please keep bringing the amazing world of indie horror to us, you beautiful horror lover IGP.
I think that it would be cool to see some more Slenderman gameplay, but with both you and your wife. This is an awesome, nostalgic video! Can't wait to see what's next!

Verzweíflung is Germanic for Despair or Desperation. Given the context I believe it is Despair; which is a German novel worth the read it has been noted as one of the potential inspirations for Slenderman.

@@FastForwardPlans oh okay! well… so… way back in 2013, I was still at secondary school, and we had these really old computers in our art department. After school I’d ask for permission to use one of them for “project research” lol. While I did do some legitimate coursework around christo and jeanne claude while online - it was mostly a clandestine cover to watch OG TH-camrs like simfusa and thegaminglemon, because my home life was a bit messed up. I watched a lot of content around the arrival, but my coursework suffered greatly… leading me to fail art (despite seemingly making the most effort in the class, haha). @@jamesstewartwilliams Happy to hear you are healing, and reminds me of my own time in school and then later college. Maaaaan, the team really outdid themselves with this remake because this properly had all of the hairs on the back of my neck standing at all times during your playthrough.
Bro, seeing the difference between your gameplay style back in the day vs. gameplay style now is an absolutely HUGE difference. You actually pay attention to the game mechanics and are more careful when play while immersing yourself in the atmosphere of the game. I remember the only game of yours I had trouble watching was phantasmal, cuz you were ignoring the game mechanics and just running around wildly. Huge difference now and improvement.
This is actually refreshing, it feels like Slender Man is finally scary again after years of mediocre content. Hell, Arrival itself was pretty lacklustre on release, they had to add extra areas in the beginning and the farm level in an update to make it decent. But this 10th anniversary edition improves on the original so much, I honestly think it’s way more unsettling this time around. The graphics, the chapter with the father, even just the little adjustments like giving Slendy subtle, understated animations makes everything hit so much harder.
the stabbing you mentioned is actually called the slenderman stabbing, In May 2014, Weier and Morgan Geyser-both 12 at the time-lured their 12-year-old friend Payton Leutner into the woods following a birthday sleepover. Geyser stabbed Leutner 19 times using a knife from her home, before the two left their injured friend to die. Leutner miraculously survived after crawling out of the woods for help. Weier and Geyser later told investigators the attack was an attempted offering to the fictional internet character Slender Man, whom they believed would kill their families otherwise. The shocking details of the case and its connection to the urban legend drew national attention, with HBO airing a documentary titled Beware the Slenderman about the incident in 2017.
Also I always viewed Slendernan as a cosmic entity but at the time I didn’t really have a word for it. Never viewed him as a slasher villain, man I keep grinning through this, amazing nostalgia.

slenderman the 8 pages was actually how i learned of him and then a creepypasta fan comic taught me of the proxies and other creepypastas so seeing you play this brings me back to when i first learned of him
CR is called Carl Ross, there was a note next to kates trash can where he confeses his love for Kate and he uses his full name. Judging by the placement of said note, the feeling was not mutual. Slender Man as an entity, at least in this game, seems to be a cosmic being which spreads its influence over people through those people's relationships. Knowledge of him gives him power, he's a memetic entity. Kate and Charlie became proxies. It seems you either die, become a proxy or forget about slenderman, which protects you if only for a bit.
The new additions to this game definitely took inspiration from the original lore about his Proxies as seen in Marble Hornets (The College TH-cam Episodes).

between 12:05-12:06, if you play in x0.25, right after igp mention charlie mat and say "yeah i dont remember any of this" you can actually see the slenderman at the left top of the cliff
Slenderman was and always will be weird to me, but now I’m making a theory. What if he’s a parasite? Black, fibrous substance through a person’s bloodstream, causing hallucinations and madness? Yes, still cosmic horror, but it could make sense why Slenderman had stayed in a particular area if nobody managed to get away. He needs a host to survive, a proxy, but as for why he does this is unknown. It’s possible that the parasite lives in the trees until they find a host, thus burning them would get rid of it, or maybe cause it to reach out to find a host more aggressively.

Monster f*ckers reading that last sentence:
Yeah didn't the creator say that the point was to create a creature with unknowable motives. They take that a bit further by making people go insane the more you try to find out what it what's with the "slender sickness".
Brings me back to watching Markiplier play the first batch of Slender games. Glad it's still going strong
I find it funny at 12:06 for a split second you see slender watching you on the top left but quickly teleports away. He knew you were talking about him stalking you.
i cant seem to find him lmfao
It’s nice to see that Slenderman gained some attention now due to the update in Slender: the arrival. Though I wish popular gaming TH-camrs played it so it could potentially bring Slender back to the spotlight.
Hey nice profile pic
@@chloesibilla8199 Thank you. It is a great piece of fan-art of Slendy indeed.
50:04 is terrifying to me because that scene is an EXACT scene from my most vivid memory of any sleep paralysis dream I had which was back in 2019
Honestly, your breakdown and analysis of Slenderman and the link to cosmic horror was really good.
Well done!
Has it been ten years already… I’m feeling old. Been loving all your content you’ve been pumping out lately!
Don’t forget! all good cosmic horrors take advantage of someone viewing their form to drive the person insane/kill them
everytime Slenderman comes up all I can think is "11 drunk guys play slenderman"
Holy shit you just unlocked a memory for me haha
30:52 the echo while ur reading inside the warehouse was a great touch really I had to second guess myself if it was in game audio or a filter
Hope we get more slender games in the future!
dude what a throw back, i remember when this game came out, they really did justice.
makes me miss being a kid
I love this concept , I think it could be strengthened with a moral about mental health and some good old fashioned creepy abandoned buildings.
@@chloesibilla8199 I mean it could be, but I usually hate when movies try and make their monsters deep and make messages. Sometimes I prefer the unexplainable monster to just be a unexplainable monster
That last part had me lol
7 months late but crazy thing is Pennywise is also an avatar for a cosmic entity, The Deadlights. Even though they kill the avatar the "real body" still exists outside of all existence. Similar to the idea of taking an appearance of something recognizable for the times, Pennywise does something similar except he's got control over his appearance and specifically takes the form of your fears because you taste better that way. Although I'm sure you know about that last part.
Pretty much Marble Hornets. It has a similar concept and is a fantastic found footage horror 'film' with like 8 hours lol, definitely recommend - one of the actors for MH was listed as a developer for this game too
9:15 That is such a classic IGP reaction (long scream) "Kaaaaate?????"
I love that he adds reverb when he entered the mine, it makes you feel much more immersed
Glad i'm not the only one seeing the subliminal messages lol.
i did.
IGP your screams always make me laugh your one of the only indie game promoters I find entertaining
35:40 my grandma actually had a teddy bear exactly like this one when she was a kid. i also played with it when I was a kid. so eerie.
It sounds like the origin of the second one could have come from a dramatization of the pale men
Nice copy pasta ! Can I steal?
@@chloesibilla8199 Dude I got this info by researching on the Internet lol; do what you want.
Slenderman was made up in a photoshop thread on Something Awful in 2009.
I love you IGP! The terror you go through for our enjoyment, it’s both hilarious and fun to go through with you
I love how this has been established now, making this cosmic can turn this into some many things like slenderman having some kind of connection with the yellow king or something similar I’m stoked!!
At that point, you take away his uniqueness, though, if he's just another cosmic offspring of some random Outer God.
It was always a thing, the creator of slender-man was inspired by H.P Lovecraft's work,
what's the yellow king?
I wait for 2 months... let IGP videos pile up... binge watch... Life good
I think that it would be cool to see some more Slenderman gameplay, but with both you and your wife.
This is an awesome, nostalgic video! Can't wait to see what's next!
The worst part of these uploads, is I feel like I need to wait to watch them. I have to wait so I can savor every minute. I always hate when the video is over and I have to wait for the next one. 😢 love you igp.
Verzweíflung is Germanic for Despair or Desperation. Given the context I believe it is Despair; which is a German novel worth the read it has been noted as one of the potential inspirations for Slenderman.
Awe yissss. Igp and a plate of dinner make for the perfect start to my weekend. Thank you!❤
This game actually cost me a GCSE qualification in art! (Worth it, lol)
Seeing this notification in my inbox just now was such an incredible pleasure. Thank you for the nostalgia trip, @IGP !
I'm really curious about the story of that.
I’m almost 25 years old now and was recently diagnosed with ADHD which has truly been a life-changing experience! Everything made sense - including my bad experiences at school and in the workplace. I have no regrets and harbour no resentment, and have been making giant strides in my healing ❤
@@jamesstewartwilliams Happy to hear you are healing, and reminds me of my own time in school and then later college. I grew up already very aware of my own adhd, however that didn't stop me from suffering greatly in a system simply not built for how I learned and processed the world, no matter how much I tried to adapt, and a branch of psychology that when I was a kid, didn't really know how to treat someone with it. (30 now)
The idea of going through what I did, and not knowing why would have been even more maddening.
Maaaaan, the team really outdid themselves with this remake because this properly had all of the hairs on the back of my neck standing at all times during your playthrough.
10 years?!?!? 😭 making me feel so old
Bro, seeing the difference between your gameplay style back in the day vs. gameplay style now is an absolutely HUGE difference. You actually pay attention to the game mechanics and are more careful when play while immersing yourself in the atmosphere of the game. I remember the only game of yours I had trouble watching was phantasmal, cuz you were ignoring the game mechanics and just running around wildly. Huge difference now and improvement.
4:34 Damn.....This new updated version is a surprise to be sure. But a very welcome and nostalgic one. Brings back memories.
U right. Could be a cosmic horror creature that just likes earth for whatever reason. Great connection!
18:43 The sudden realization that he *might* be walking is just perfectly captured in your voice LOL
the stabbing you mentioned is actually called the slenderman stabbing, In May 2014, Weier and Morgan Geyser-both 12 at the time-lured their 12-year-old friend Payton Leutner into the woods following a birthday sleepover.
Oh lordy... here we go. Hello from Idaho!!
Also I always viewed Slendernan as a cosmic entity but at the time I didn’t really have a word for it. Never viewed him as a slasher villain, man I keep grinning through this, amazing nostalgia.
This isn't the end of Slender The Arrival. We are getting new dlc chapters and multiplayer next year. Confirmed by Blue Isle themselves.
Got a scammer in the comments.
1:44 You're describing autumn in Sweden. It's only beatuiful when in sunshine. The rest of the time it just gets at like 5PM. (Sweden is on same latitude as Alaska)
Im in Alaska, yea
You go to work in the dark (8am) and you leave work when it gets dark (5pm) once it hits October
Dude, I love your content! Omg I'm so excited to watch this video. Your channel has seriously gotten me through so much, and you've become a comfort content creator for me. Thank you for everything you do, IGP ❤
Hey IGP, been watching your videos for years and I love how your style has evolved!
I’m still amazed and happy how he changes his voice like this for certain areas. Makes me feel like he’s very much inside of the game. Keep it up
Dude I've wanted to see a return of slenderman for so long, I loved when it took over the internet
29:00 Charles note was deep and damn, the developers definitely pour a bit of heart into that note forsure
I love how we got to see in real time, that Indie doesn’t skip much worth anything, save for some boring walking sim filler, or telling us when he needs to go drop a deuce 🤘😂💜
This looks so good now.
Still remember “Haunt” from back in the day. That was a creepy Slenderman game.
Slender the Arrival was a massive improvement over the original. I bet the only reason it flunked was because people were so sick of Slwnder Men at the point it came out
Wait it flunked?!
IGP, I have been watching ur videos for about four years now, and really love them, I really dig horror campaign type games, and I have yet to see how this one goes. Will let you know what I think when the video is over, keep going strong dude.
Grew up on this game! Crazy to see the change!
Woah! Didn't expect to see you play this, love you IGP
It seems like Slinder Man, Pennywise, Hasshaku-sama, and Jeepers Creepers all have similar concepts to catch their prey. Would trick people by looking human, then take who they choose to feast on.
i love the fact that i now know that you use a software to make it sound like your in the room and have accurate echos it messed with my head at first but i really enjoy it now.
IGP is always making my day with these scary games
loving the longer videos!!! slenderman is an old fav, always fun to see you play
its amazing how slenderman is still a relevant character even after 10+ years
Wow! This was just amazing and unlocked SO many memories. I used to be OBSESSED with Slenderman and the original Creepypasta classics. So this was a blast to watch, amazing! :)
yeah the girl did in fact survive, cause shes just that badass
Another great gameplay. Give it a 100 out of 10 lol. I tell myself I need to stop watching these scary videos at night but that's the perfect time to watch them even though all the scares hurts me lol
I think players and critics have been hard on this game in the past, but I'm glad it's starting to get the praise it deserves.
slenderman the 8 pages was actually how i learned of him and then a creepypasta fan comic taught me of the proxies and other creepypastas so seeing you play this brings me back to when i first learned of him
Dang IGP blessed us with another 1hr+ video 💙 do we even deserve this?
This is making my teenage self inside scream with happiness, thank you for playing it IGP!!! 😭💜
Wow ten years have gone by already for this game? I remember when this first came out!
18:00 zorbing is where you put yourself inside a big (seethrough) ball and float yourself on top the water as if you're in a hamster wheel
Your game completely skipped the house windows and doors scene wtf.
That happens later.
@@IGP really I coulda swore it was before the woods scene. Idk my brain so fried after playing this game.
@@IGPprobably woulda helped if I’d watched the whole video 🤣🤦♂️

@@IGP Kenobie : " it's over

1:00:50 also that's what she said
between 12:05-12:06, if you play in x0.25, right after igp mention charlie mat and say "yeah i dont remember any of this" you can actually see the slenderman at the left top of the cliff
Yeah another horror
Slenderman was and always will be weird to me, but now I’m making a theory. What if he’s a parasite? Black, fibrous substance through a person’s bloodstream, causing hallucinations and madness? Yes, still cosmic horror, but it could make sense why Slenderman had stayed in a particular area if nobody managed to get away. He needs a host to survive, a proxy, but as for why he does this is unknown. It’s possible that the parasite lives in the trees until they find a host, thus burning them would get rid of it, or maybe cause it to reach out to find a host more aggressively.
15:48 With the similar name, MineCraft totally got their idea of Enderman from Slenderman. I'm sure! Look at the way he teleports too!
