HI again, Joey, both are fine choices, Hotel Mediodía is a classic in the region.
I just checked out Hostal Alexis - 500 Euros for four nights in December. It's not exactly budget.
The problem is not the hotel, is the period of the year you are researching.

Hope you are well. I have booked Hotel Alexis for my March trip. The video segment on this hotel gave a good insight to the area. What is the surrounding area like in terms of shops, cafés and local culture? Also, I am taking the AeroBus on my departure day and was wondering is it a better option to board the bus at Plaza de Cibeles or at Atocha Railway Station. Your map showed the Plaza de Cibeles is near the hotel. Is there any major walking time/distance difference from my hotel to either bus stop? I like walking city streets so either stop would do. Hello John from sunny Ireland 😀 Hostal Alexis is in a very lively area of Madrid, plenty of all those places you mention in your question. Given that the distance from your hostal (we take you are aware you won't be staying at a hotel but rather a hostal, see our video here on the topic: th-cam.com/video/iQGNHgBgoS0/w-d-xo.html ) to both stops is similar, we would take the bus at its initial stop in Atocha. But it's quite a distance to walk carrying luggage. We would take the metro. All the best.

But Tony is it okay to give the hotel the credit card details , even if I will pay cash on arrival
It is common practice in Spain (and many other European countries). The hotel wants you credit card details in case you don't show up.

your video says budget ,,yet you do not give any indication of the prices ,,,which is the main concern for back packer
As there is no such thing as "the price", we do better than that, and give you the link where you can check the prices for the dates of your intended stay. Prices change depending on the date of the stay and how well in advance you book the room.
