I _hate_ the taste of mustard plants, but mizuna is pretty enough to grow on its own! Like a green flame emerging from the soil in that one shot. Tuck is adorable!!!!
I learned by accident that kale is winter hardy when I went out back in December here in Michigan, about a month after a ten-inch snow and discovered to my surprise that the Scarlet kale was still alive and going strong! 😮
Ok, James! I’m so into greens! Just got my copy of “Year-Round Indoor Salad Gardening”. Written by Peter Burke/Vermont gardener. Growing greens without grow lights, in very small trays filled with compost/kelp additive. Incredibly easy for daily salads. I’ll let you know how it works in addition to my newly established cut flower stand! I’m collecting neighborhood pumpkins to add to my compost right now. A neighbor brought over a wagon full yesterday. Yes!!!! 🥬🎃💃🏼🎃🥬 Carolyn/Vermont Cat Lady Love your “people gotta eat”…I’m connecting with some affordable housing seniors to broaden their food horizons. Funny thing is…I’m way older than they are! As an Alaskan i know some of these might not grow all winter. However, I've grown amazing kale, rhubarb, lettuce and many types of herbs up here. This might surprise some, but in my experience, the lettuce lasted the longest. I was picking leaves off my lettuce plants well into September. Lots of useful information on this channel. I'm new but I'm loving this
Zone 6a here in Central Ct. 66 Degrees now. We got a very cold snap couple months back. Covered our bush string beans and they produced enough for 2 adults 3 side dishes. My red pepper container plant gets covered some times. Chinese cabbage first year for that we did a fall crop. Still have carrots in the ground and in a pot. Putting the garden to bed. Used DIY compost and chopped maple brown leaves looking forward to planting seed in Feb. inside w. full spectrum light.
It is very hopeful seeing such a harvest in November and on! I would love to see how you like to prepare these veggies (the dark greens and brassicas) for everyday meals. I love all the new varieties!

Recently moved to zone 9B, where fall and winter gardens do well. Building a container garden, and one of your covered bed designs to keep the veggies happy during the very short freeze season. So happy to be gardening again and trying out many of the methods you teach! Thanks, James and Tuck!
All premier kale Russian red kale, carrots, garlic and about 50% of curly kale can live through our zone 6 winter without any protection outdoors. The edible chickweed is also very good, can be left growing freely in the garden and harvest when you need them. White and black radish, also kore cabbage and baby bok choy is cold hardy at least to almost -10C here. Personally, I think all gardeners should keep some edible weed, just in case and increase the bees' diet.

I'm so happy our summer is just starting... its been a long winter! I'm just starting to plant out my tomatoes and the like here. Its so nice to finally have some real warmth.
Great video and I am heartened as I am just trying Tatsoi and other Asian greens, plus Red Russian kale. One small tip, 'Mache' or Lambs Lettuce is NOT pronounced 'Mashay' as it is not Spanish or Italian but French. Here in France we just pronounce it 'Mash'. It is grown in vast quantities here in winter and spring and is the go to salad vegetable.
Thanks for the video! Always good to have some things to stretch out until the frost. A small suggestion, though - maybe add the Latin names for us foreign watchers? Makes searching in our local online stores so much easier.
