      @@jaymeeleighjx1x In the video she mentioned she got pastels for animal portraits specifically, asked how subscribers would feel about speedpaints with music, and also said she is playing around with mediums. This idea provides her with images to use for practice without "stealing" anything online, and it gives her something to film on a regular basis.

      @@jaymeeleighjx1x Not exactly, and I'm someone who is a huge advocate of artists not underselling their time/talent/skills. It's too common. Free commissions would be giving them final art. TH-cam vids are like a cat staring out of a window at birds. They can see the piece created, but can't touch it, hang it on a wall, or own it. She could allow them to purchase the final art or have it as a high tier Patreon reward. There's a number of TH-camrs I've seen create sculptures from someone else's concept art. As far as I know, they don't get the final product.

    Pan pastels have a sticker at the bottom of the pan. 4 stars next to the colour name equal highest lightfastness, 1 star equals low lightfastness. So just check your pans' bottoms and you'll know :)

    • @Mameha4
      @Mameha4 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They are very helpful and beautiful to use with "traditional" paper, however I find I don't like them for sand papers or papers similar to it (like pastelmat). Pastelmat is fantastic for pastel pencils, but not pan pastels. First, the surface scratches the sponges and it is super hard to get a smooth application. But you could work with this. However, pan pastels completely clog the tooth of the pastelmat rather quickly and you will barely be able to go on top with pastel pencils. They literally just slide off. I love pan pastels when working on regular paper, but I only ever use them on pastelmat if I want a simple background which need not be even or detailed.

    Combining pan pastels and colored pencils worked SO well! You're right that the pencils gave it a sharpness like "bringing it into focus", and the background of the pastels give it so much more dimension and depth than the drawing with just colored pencils has. Amazing painting!! lil info about pastels, pencils/hard pastels are for fine detail so they don't smudge as much, rounded pastels are usually softest for a smooth blended layer and rectangulary pastels vary in softness but each has it's own use. it's about how compact/hard the powder is or the amount of material used to hold it together not necessarily more or less pigmented. i never tried pan pastels but they seem softest. I wanna try them one day. also there's a technique using coloured with pastels and working from dark to light as will as using undertones for light (example, yellow) and shade (example, purple) then layering it with the natural colours to achieve richness in colour. best way is, ofc, to experiment with all and see what you like best. hope this helps anyone :)

    WOW, Great job. Hard to believe this was your first time with Pan Pastels. I would love to see you do more art with these. I love mine. I only have a set of ten basic colors. And will get more as soon as I can. I want the pigmintless pan for blending. Also if you have one of the flat round sponges, you can blend new colors on it, then use that little tool to pick up the blended color & apply it to your artwork. They are archival. And what an improvement from the old picture. It was good, but this one is awesome. TYFS

    I agree with you. I love color pencil but omg they take way too long to fill big spaces. Plus the white covering part is soooo time consuming. That when I started getting into painting cuz you can paint in half the time then color with color pencil. Very interesting to see pastel with color pencil, it is a great idea. Amazing drawing too and so life like.

    Such a beautiful doggo! Both in the photo and the artwork, you really gave her justice with this portrait.
    As of layering issues, try pastel dedicated paper, like uart 600 or pastelmat - the latter is on the expensive side but the results you can get on it are just gorgeous. It will reduce the amount of fixative needed for the piece too!
    As for pastel masters - I highly recommend to check out Jason Morgan, he's the absolute master of pastels and wildlife drawings/paintings.

I haven't used mine in a while so I may get back into them after this :) they're also lightfast and professional grade. I like these much more than soft pastel sticks. This is gorgeous! You really managed to make it your style with the colour pencils, which I'm always super impressed with when it comes to realism!!

    Looks so pretty and so cute. It felt like 3D -- like I could just reach out and hug the dog. 💖 Excellent work

    I bought only one pan, Black, for shadowing background of my drawings, but since then I'm flirting with the idea of buying more colors fo the same reason. Using it combined with colored pencils. I love to draw portraits and it would help a lot on layering skin. Btw, your skills improved insanely! Beautiful portrait!
