Good info but to all those make sure you research if you have citizenship in your country can be very complicated to the name change if you dont have original documents as you might require to have your countries passport even with US passport your country may not let you in!

AName change during naturalization adds complication and potential delay when a judge is not available as Jim mentions. Name change after naturalization seems easy. Then you will have a court order for the name change unrelated to naturalization to provide to banks, etc.
Keeping the 2 processes separate seems best to me.

Well, I changed my name and from the interview date until the ceremony, It took me about a month. In my case, I didn't have to wait that long for a ceremony. But I agree with you.

It took me less than a month to change my name from the interview to the oath of allegance.

Keeping that separate seems more of a hassle and time consuming as well as legal fees added.
Doing it during naturalization is a smoother process, saves you time and money and often times, the ceremony will be within a month out, even the same day if it’s in a big city.

Thank you for the useful video!! I have a question that I'd really appreciate if you'd answer it. My oath ceremony is in less than 2 days. I know I'm supposed to sign the Certificate of Citizenship upon receiving it. Since I've requested a name change, do I sign with my new name, noting that I already have an official signature with my current name associated with my bank account, driver's license, etc.?

A friend of mine had her maiden name initialized as her middle name and her married name as her last name on both her green card and now her naturalization certificate.

Hi Jim, Please Sir, i have a question. My mom filed her i751 jointly with her US. citizen spouse and during the wait time she was eligible to file for naturalization which she did. she attended the interview and passed the test, but when it was time for her i751interview she started having problems in her marriage with her US.citizen spouse and she legally sepereted with him not divorced just for her safety. she later attended her i751 interview alone and she expalined all that happened between her and her spouse and she requested that her case should be converted to a battetred sposed case, which she provided documents to back it up and gave it to the officer
A month after her i751 interview she recived a notice in her online account with uscis that her i751 petition was approved and also a notice of oath ceremony too.
My question is, was her i751 petion approved based on the request she made on her case during her interview to be convereted to a batttered spouse ? and should she stilll say she is seprerated when filling the oath ceremony notice questionere?
    Thank you.

The uscis officers simplified name by removing my mother’s side name of my full Brazilian name, but she did it all without a federal judge. What is the implication now by her doing on her own without a judge?

When writing "other names used since birth" do those other names become public record for anyone to search for and find?
Does the country that I'd be coming from, Australia, give the United States those legal name change documents? If so, would those become public record for anyone to see?
And would it make any difference if i was born in the United States and the previous name was once on a birth certificate and social security card?
I'm trying to escape from a covert narcissist by changing my name and not letting her find out the new one so she can't search for me and find me. Thank you.

Just to clarify...you're suggesting that a wife shouldn't take her husband's last name for ten years?

It doesn’t work like that, they’d still be able to change your name on your license during the process before naturalization. Immigration Advices are not tailored, You’ll need a consult for that

If someone passed naturalization interview and requested name change that time however now wants to cancel name change during judicial oath ceremony after thinking about the hassle of changing name everywhere . Is it possible to cancel name change on the day of the judicial oath ceremony? If yes, how to do that. Please advice. Thanks

      Hey
My name is Marcia Martins Carvalho in all my documents like my marriage certificate, green card , drives license and others.
In my citizenship interview the agent add Coelho , my middle name in my birthday certificate, and my name changed to Marcia Coelho Martins Carvalho ( Carvalho is my husband’s last name).
I would like to maintain the same name that I have in all my documents.
How could I do it before my naturalization ceremony?
If I have my USA passport with Coelho in my middle name and my Brazilian passport without Coelho, like all my documents, I can use those 2 to go and back to Brazil?
      I’ll really appreciate your help.
      Thank you
