Another added note is that the Teller Amendment was passed by Congress because many congressmen were in the sugar industry and were afraid Cuban companies would start competing with them, along with the fact that Cuba was mostly Catholic and Hispanic which made the American upper class uneasy. First of all, America itsnt country but a continent, gringoland is better, gringoland didnt want the independence of Cuba, it only wanted one more colony like Puerto Rico or the Philippines, and within the Anglo-Saxon culture of gringoland, the only thing that exists is the exposure of resources, Cuba achieved independence by itself.

@@4ev3rY America isn't a Continent, it's a Super-Continent. Nice try though. It's also the short 1 word name for The USA. So, yeah. Find a bridge & learn uour history, because to reasons that shock even me; no, American Leadership did NOT want to annex Cuba. Because it's pretty obvious we would have had we wanted to. We wanteda world power our of The American Super-Continent, Monroe Doctrine.
While backbenchers in American Congress did argue for Cuban annexation, The Presidential figures & leaders in Gov't & Military did not want Cuban annexation.
Teddy Roosevelt specifically fighting NOT to annex Cuba i imagine won't even compute with you but that's the truth.
Cuba would've stayed a Spanish Colony without American-Spanish War. We didn't invade Cuba, we invaded Spain. Then we granted Cuban independence while annexing every other colony.

Quick comment because a lot of these comments are making me a little upset especially coming from people who have little to no knowledge or experience from/about cuba. Cuba is a dictatorship and cuba is very communisy, cuba is not perfect cuba is not pretty anymore, theres no food no medicine no money nothing. buildings are crumbling, the people are dying and killing eachother from the desperation that they are feeling. we have been protesting for a few days recently and have been actively crying out for help for years but it falls on deaf ears because unless you are tuned into that news and those specific news outlets, our news doesnt get shared. and if it does get shared its false news put out by the cuban govt to avert attention. but coming from first gen cuban here, WE NEED HELP! Cuba has been suffering for 65 years! I just want my families island to be beautiful and free again😢 I wanna be able to visit with joy and feel proud of my country just like my puerto rican dominican colombian friends feel proud of their country.
