You are such a precious person. Thank you for taking me into the woods every day this month, building a fire and reading poetry. What an unexpected delight.
Hello my outdoors friend. This is day #4. You are a wise Lady. You saved an hour today, by bringing your own dry firewood. I do like your readings of the Mary Oliver poetry. You and Maysie be safe out there. See you on the next one. 🤗
Passed on in 2019; RIP Mary Oliver! Belated sad news. You know, she certainly was a gifted writer. Her talent for bringing the reader on for backcountry, or forestland ramp , was way more then mere poetic prose , for sure. P.s. That campfire/cast iron skillet Irish Soda bread , topped with apricot jam, and pure maple syrup looked yummy!
It was suggested I check out your channel to learn how to start a proper fire! I've had some trouble with that on recent trips. :) Looks like I'm just in time with this series. You are a breath of fresh air. Love the positivity and your selection of poems. Looking forward to delving further into your video catalogue.
She really is a breath of fresh air. Go ahead and check out the rest of her videos, her positivity is infectious. She inspires me to get outside and get happy. The outdoors can really do wonders.
That second poem was perfect. Fits my life to a tee. Perfectly happy alone in the woods all day, because you really aren't alone, the woods are alive. Thanks for day 4
This is my second day of the fire challenge, having great fun! My fires seem to bring everybody out of the woodwork, fires are a great gathering place, even the neighbors dog finds me! I’m enjoying your poetry reading and I thank you again for being an inspiration, God bless you😇😇😇
Brooke, I am enjoying your fire videos immensely. When you read the line from the poem about the “fox running by unconcerned” it brought back a memory. I was living in Ohio. It was November 1st, 2014 going on 6:00 p.m., I was sitting on the carport patio just ‘kicking back’. I heard rustling in the leaves from behind me. Suddenly, a fox trotted past me. It didn’t even know I was there. It was one of the most pleasurable moments of my life.
Most of us would be cursing the bread, but you find the beauty of the moment, you are blessed, now send me that soda bread and I'll show you how to eat it the Irish way!
Yes! Coffee ALWAYS saves the day! You and Dave are so on the same page as I am. And exploring new and different campfire cooking is great fun, too. Never underestimate how much value you folks bring those of us who can't enjoy it "at the moment"!! Already looking forward to getting back to the Michigan woods. Thank you for sharing ... God Bless
Brooke I finally found the first ten of your 28 day Light A fire challenge. I have watcher the others at least twice. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe in the woods even if, only 100 feet from home.
love the campfire challenge. growing up we spent alot of time in the woods and around a campfire with my parents and then with our kids too. such an awesome way to connect - no tv or video games just days filled with the beauty of our favorite places and nights filled with laughter, campfire stories and SMORES! and the best is now we do it with our kids and their kids. when my 4 year old grandson tells me he cant wait to go to our favorite creek it brings me much happiness. he didnt get to meet my dad but he is getting to know all of his favorite places. i have a feeling that someday his kids will too.
I know this is last years video but I’m loving all your daily fires and food. I just made sourdough english muffins...(inside)...but I have made them over the fire. English muffins are made for the griddle and especially your little cast iron skillet. Be happy.
such beautiful words! "if u go to the woods with me! I must love u very much!" wow. loving that. me and my mister live in the woods in a lil cabin. your irish soda bread rocks.
One thing I’ve learned, make sure I’m NOT starving before cooking something over an open fire, lol. Thankfully she’s cold enough and bears are deep sleeping here that I can finally start keeping more perishables around. I don’t eat bread a lot but man, there’s nothing worse than taking a hankering and finding nothing, but, mould! Can’t wait to try this homemade, yeast free recipe. Thanks for the continued inspiration!
Love Mary Oliver’s poem. I hope you read more. They’re from a peaceful heart and quite likely like you in your happy place anywhere in the woods in solitude with your soul which you must feed also or die within.
I want to be light and frolicking too!!! : ) I love your attitude. You are genuinely grateful for all the 'little' things like morning coffee and the sweet company of your collie that might not seem so 'little' to others. I think that's the key to life, to be happy for what you have instead of complaining about what you don't have. Whatever the situation, there is always someone worse off than you and might be very happy to trade places. One of the silly things I do when I feel down is think of all the things that would be worse than my situation, for example; I could have been born in China in the 17th century and forced to bind my feet, or stuck up a tree surrounded by drooling wolves, or all too common situations we sadly see everyday like being an immigrant refugee fleeing drug lords with my child. Before long I am thanking my lucky stars I have food in my belly and a roof over my head tonight and people that love me. That puts everything else into perspective pretty quickly. Thanks for sharing your beautiful spirit!
Man, campfire , cast iron Irish Soda bread topped mit apricot jam, and maple syrup! Whaaat!? Talk about good. (Haha, no wonder D Woof was licking her chops ! ) Yeah good.
Oh Brooke you and your Coffee🍵☕, and i thought I had a Coffee thing going on lol,and which is better smelling it or sipping it or maybe both omg lol love it,and looks like Maysie was enjoying the bread 🍞also, and I loved that poem 👍😊,and ty for day #4 fire,I'm definitely looking forward to the next one already👍💙😊...
Did a speech today “camping with your dog” for my Toastmasters group. Really wanted to wrap it up with “get outside and get Happy!” Love you, keep posting!

Another great fire Brooke!! Now I must surf the web for Irish soda bread recipes. Would be so fun to cook when camping to while away the time I’m usually waiting for the family to all wake up and get going. :)
CATHY M A D E FIRE TODAY . IT WAS NICE HERE TODAY . ALL SO COOKED ON FIRE. IT WAS WONDERFUL. THANKS FOR YOUR F I R E VIDEOS. SWAMP HUGS. BE CAREFUL AND SAFE MY FRIENDS.
We make bannock bread ourselves, especially since being on the road travelling for the last 18 months in Australia....especially nice cooked over the campfire with the smoky flavour...cant wait till winter again...we have storms surrounding us at the moment...rumblings of thunder from three directions and dark clouds rolling in...will bring a nice drop of coolness after a very hot morning. Embracing the weather good and bad is a must when in the outdoors...being prepared for every possible kind of weather. Whether its sitting by a fire, sitting under the blanket of twinkling stars, enjoying the warm glow of the sun on a cold winters afternoon, or under the cool shade of a tree on a hot summers day, sitting amongst the bush and hearing the sounds of the wind in the trees and birds and animals or sitting by a flowing stream or watching the moon rise over the ocean, getting outdoors and away from technology and stresses of life is definately a good way to unwind and connect with your inner self. Thanks for your truly inspiring videos brooke....my brother and I have been following your channel for a while, and watching your videos of being outdoors while sitting outdoors in front of our campfires during winter and under the great southern skies during summer from campsites in the middle of nowhere....
You are such a precious person. Thank you for taking me into the woods every day this month, building a fire and reading poetry. What an unexpected delight.
