I’m old and was lucky to have watched Fischer play speed chess in 1970. He crushed the field which included Tal, Petrosian and Smyslov. He moved his pawns and pieces clumsily, not like above though each pawn and piece did land in the centre of the square. He had the same bored look like Magnus with victory almost expected and when he played all eyes were on him. His play in each game was faster than the above probably because there was no increment in those days. He lost just one game to Korchnoi, falling for a well known trap in the french defense and he bizarrely kept on playing with just a few pawns against a rook?! For me, Fischer was the greatest blitz player of all time. Though for me, the player who controlled the most complicated positions when all the pawns and pieces were “up in the air” was Alekhine. But I’m not THAT old so I never got to see that great chess monster play and can only study his games in awe like everyone else.
Magnus said that he was drunk for the most part of that day. He drank russian vodka as much as he can for 15mins then went back and crushed everyone on that day. Maybe thats why he looks so high in this video. What a beast!

If Karjakin captures the pawn with his bishop Carlsen plays rook E8 mate, if Karjakin leaves that pawn Carlsen plays Quuen G7 check forcing the king to the E file and he would have the resource rook takes bishop check with the game ending soon after. The best Karjakin has (Not sure about this but) Queen sacrifice to take the rook off the board because his queen can't get back in time to help his King, which is also the end of the game.
Min 3.05 I believe if Carlsen moves Ke5 creating a threat on Q and Bishop, then black has to take Knight on E5 with pawn. Then follows bishop takes pawn on E5 and the threat of mate on the next move rook H8 can be stopped only by taking the Knight on F5 with bishop, followed by pawn takes Bishop and opening the diagonal for white queen to come on the attack. Am i right? Just a random thought. It might be all rubish though Any thoughts on this please comment, it would be much appreciated. Peace and love
Karjakan is almost out of time (his clock shows 6 seconds, I believe) and he is. In a position the is probably impossible to defend without at least conceding the bishop. Carlsen has a passed pawn defended by a queen barreling down on the Karjakin’s king. Even if it were possible to defend with perfect play, it’s unlikely he can figure it out in 6 seconds, especially when Carlsen would still have time to think.

I suspect that he is providing an extra defender to the pieces in front of the king and, more importantly, preparing a path for the rook to reach the h file, which is likely to soon open up due to the pawn situation in the g and h files. Carlsen eventually attacks along this file, so this is important prep. No way he was making a waiting move on a board with that many pieces.
Si! Moro le dió bien en esa partida, Carlsen no vió un Db8 en un momento dado, pero estuvo perdido antes en varias ocasiones, es blitz! victoria merecida para Morozevich
Yes, otherwise you would keep one of your hands on the clock and press almost immediately, maybe even before making the move. This way its easier to follow the rule about first making the move and then pressing the clock.
