Oh this is such a relief! I don't like chemistry but I do like drawing lewis structures. It's like a puzzle! I'm taking organic chemistry next semester.
Thank you!! I was looking for something exactly like this. Going into a science field from a math background for grad school and I have LOTS of brushing up to do. Any chance you could do like an hour long gen chem review vid? Shot in the dark, I know, but figured I have to ask!
@@whoasked6147 Carbon always make double bond with oxygen But if oxygen exist with some other molecule like OH then it will make single bond only Otherwise it makes double bond to complete it's octat.. Hope it helps:)
@@whoasked6147 yes if you are writing ketone or aldehyde functional group,no if you are writing alcohol as functional group then oxygen make one sigma bond with carbon and other single bond with hydrogen
She put a double on carbon because of two reasons: 1) Hydrogen can only form one bond. 2) Since double means 2 and as we can see that the other carbon is forming with hydrogen and oxygen which makes it double so thats why she put it double on carbon and hydrogen was with three elements so it will be thrice not twice.
Hey hey! The octet rule is basically one that states that all atoms must have 8 electrons filling their outermost energy shell (the valency shell) to be happy.
I am sorry but if chemists will draw complicated structures like this then they’ll probably consume a lot of the time, that’s why carbon atom with surrounded hydrogen atoms are drawn as 120* mount
@@danielfunes2419 hey man, it actually went well! it requires tons of practice though lol, and i got quite lucky that my professor’s exams were easy. onto orgo 2 now🫡

Please pin me I am from India and we have to learn organic chemistry in detail for just one exam and and it's weightage is 1/9th then also we learn this 😂
Check out Chemmunity to start understanding Organic Chemistry

I love these shorts and would appreciate having them more frequently. Thank you, Ms. Melissa.
Great demonstrstion. Although I’m not in OrgChem, I am in general chemistry. This is still useful to know for lewis structures. 🎉
I start Ochem this semester. Thank you for this!
Run oh wait it’s a year later. Wish I had ran

Thank you ma'am your explanation is awesome🎉.
Your video really help me thanks!!
Great stuff, love your video

Best chem content
Us indian students are already taught that carbon will always form a double bond with oxygen 😂
Ye i was shocked when she drew a lone pair

thanks a lot!❤❤❤
You also did a resonance structure there at the end
I actualy paused the video before you drew the lewis structure. I thought about how i would draw it and i was right
You make OChem interesting!!!!
I love you. Awesome
It's very easy. I am from India. My country children are topper. These is nothing 😢.
This was easy for me, but I first had to figure out what Lewis structure in english means, since I am not that good at english.
Thank you!
What are Lewis structures and why is it good to know how to draw them
Thanks 🙏 ❤
Why not double bond it to hydrogen? or does it matter?
Hydrogen doesn't follow octet rule
you forgot to erase one of the dots on the O atom.
what? Why would OH automatically mean they are bonded separately differently than HO
I am far from starting organic chemistry, but isnt the unpaired electrons in the oxygen atom supposed to be evenly spaced in pairs?
Y is oxygen up
While not hydrogen
They teach you this in university?? it's high school lesson in iran
Ethanal. If it was CH3COH it would be Ethan-1-ol I believe
Cool I really like chemistry and I wanna learn I sucked at it in high school I’m trying to teach myself before I go back to school for college
Aldehyde
I’m starting ochem next semester and I feel overwhelmed looking at this
How’s it going? You can do it!
Does it matter where you put the line?
What does multiple central atoms mean
Sorry you have a mistake carbon and oxygen are double bonded
Do you teach high school students?
why does the lone pair form a double bond to H
does it matter where you placed the hydrogen and oxygen?
no. just remember carbon has 4 bonds.
It doesn’t matter, as long as carbon is double bonded to oxygen and single bonded to hydrogen
Why am I watch this after my exams are over
Why is that H and O are not bonded?
Yes, since carbon has four valence shell…
"Ethyl" its wright ?
Me not knowing shxt about Chem: "🧐Oh' ohkay"
This is beyond the basics, there is no way you're in university without knowing this.
please may I know why you put the double bond on carbon and not on hydrogen?
HOW CAN HYDROGEN EVER FORM A DOUBLE BOND???
@@kiwin9488 no, hydrogen only makes 1 bond

Which program is this?
After watching this i feel like I am genius 😂😂
Acetaldehyde
? How can you remember something you never learned?
Is Ochem as bad as people say
Who forgot to draw lewis structures over vacation 😂
Beast Mode Marshawn Lynch is the best O Chem foosball player
What does CH3CHO mean
Aceteldihyde c2h4o
Why formic acid is more acidic then Benzoic acid? Any idea with out Google 😂.
I effect?
Cuz Formic acid is smaller than Benzoic acid thats why he's depressed cuz he's below average height and has stress and due to stress he has acidity 🥰
I thought carbon atoms like to form four bonds here the second one only has 3
I can’t believe I studied this subject😂
What the otet rule?
Hey hey! The octet rule is basically one that states that all atoms must have 8 electrons filling their outermost energy shell (the valency shell) to be happy.
Bro i learned this on 9th grade but i didnt it was called lewis structures
I didn't know these exist...
What is ochem
blud I saw all your comments, if you’re asking these questions and you have to take ochem… you’re cooked 😂
oxygen has double bond
I learnt this when I was 10
I thought she gonna teach a complex structure 😂😂
I am sorry but if chemists will draw complicated structures like this then they’ll probably consume a lot of the time, that’s why carbon atom with surrounded hydrogen atoms are drawn as 120* mount
Everyone talks about ochem but never PCHEM….
I don't know why I find chemistry way easier compared to math
your not alone bro math just doesnt have any explantion but chem does
Doesn't everybody know this 😂
Made simply to complex
❤
Come in India
You will learn everything with in a year
Me knowing this in gr 10 🗿
It’s Ethanal.
Lol I learned this stuff when I was 14
Easy af
yes
Any indian student here😂...it can be done by a 9th std student..I am 11th
😂
Can we write it as C2H4O instead of CH3CHO?
See it's easier to draw with ch3cho than c2h4o
We study this in 7the grade like if you dont know that what are you doing
