    I remember my dad would only smoke a cigar once a year and that was when the carnival would come to town and he would ding the bell on the strength game with the hammer. The prize was a cigar. I was always proud of him for winning that cigar.

      Stress is a slow "creep up on you" killer, right? So I don't see anything wrong with smoking a cigar every now and then to relieve some stress. It's not like alcohol, which when the high goes away you're back stressing again. I smoke a pipe once or twice a month. I drink whiskey, but I only drink 1 to 2 ounces a week, if that. I have NEVER been drunk or even tipsy for that matter. Plus, tobacco has its medicinal characteristics. Everything in moderation is an absolute must.
      I'm sure Steve probably smokes multiple cigars a day though.

      1trae9 Not even on the same level as alcohol at all. Alcohol is so so much worse. In fact the FDA says you can smoke 2 cigars a day without any known negative effect.

    I've only been smoking cigars for just under two years. I see a lot of people saying how unhealthy they are and while you can't argue the facts, (i.e, carcinogens when puffed and throat and mouth cancer.) There is something to be said about the history of cigars and the fact that you are supporting an industry that has been around for centuries. Also please brush, floss, and rinse your mouth after each smoke. It can and will save your mouth and should be known that this is a great preventative measure.
    A few things to mention to those that don't smoke cigars.
    - You do not inhale. You draw the smoke into your mouth and then blow out.
    - There are two different types of cigars. Long Filler and Short Filled cigars. Think of short filled as being the cigars you will see at your gas station like a swisher or black n mild. (Not so good tobacco that is chopped up) whereas Long Filled cigars have 'premium' tobacco that is typically hand-rolled. Though some are machine-made.
    -Cigars only contain one thing. Tobacco and vegetable glue. That's it. No crazy chemicals like cigarettes.
    -Nicotine is present but only gets absorbed from the mouth and glands within your mouth. This means that it doesn't get absorbed in your lungs and enter your bloodstream as fast nor do you get that much nicotine at all. Hence being the reason why people can go on for months without thinking about a cigar until a special event or celebration occurs.
    - Price. It's true that cigars can be pricey, again though you can find cheap premium tobacco if you look good enough. Cigars are pricey for good reason especially something like Davidoff. I urge all of you to look briefly at their process. If you want to look into how a cigar is made lookup, "Davidoff cigar tour" and it should pop right up on youtube.
    - Cigars grow mold. Another reason that proves cigars don't contain pesticides or chemicals. Cigars grow mold in an overly humid and hot environment.
    - Aging. Cigars are typically stored in humidors and will age in that 'case' until the end-user is ready to smoke them.
    I am by no means here to urge anyone to get into smoking cigars. I am, however, sick of the claims some people bring up like the chemical argument or the inhale argument. Please educate yourself appropriately before you get into cigars. I have been smoking for a fairly short time and have had zero issues. Also, I have looked through many different studies before I got into this hobby and I have to say it's a shit show. Both sides are funded by their counterparts and each argument can be argued by cherry-picked studies. Also if you try a cigar and get sick here is what you can do to prevent that from happening.
    1. Soda or coffee is my go-to. Pair any cigar with a creamy cup o joe or a dr. pepper or coke of some sort.
    2. Be outside or in a well-ventilated area where you can breathe some fresh air.
    3. Take it easy. Don't constantly puff. A good rule of thumb is to wait a minute or a good minute and a half before each puff. Pace yourself. Soon you will get into the rhythm and that's what makes cigars so soothing.
    4. Make sure you are lighting it properly and be sure to always toast the foot of the cigar completely around the edge. Then puff and light at the same time with long draws. Then blow on the foot and make sure it is evenly lit. If not then touch it up with your torch.
    5. Enjoy!
    Here are some helpful links for those of you that would like to learn more on how to smoke cigars along with how they are made. I apologize for the lengthiness of this. Thanks for reading this far if ya did!

      @illkickyouinthenuts 2 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      @@profound369 There are probably millions of different brands, series, sizes, (nicotine) strengths, taste flavors, etc. cigars.
      Everyone who smokes cigars knows there are always cigars which don't fit their palate. If you smoked a cigar you didn't like, then that cigar wasn't for you.
      There are nicotine bomb cigars, but I tend to stay away from them. For me: I stay in the mild to medium and some medium plus strength, if I find a cigar too strong I will age it for years.

Nicotine from Smoke that is not inhaled, its very hard for it to be absorbed into your bloodstream. Dip on the other hand, that dip juice, it absorbed all throughout your mouth, absorbing everything including a lot of nicotine.

    The _ceremony_ of properly enjoying a cigar has a _meditative_ quality that requires me to slow down, be present in the moment, and take time to _appreciate_ the fruits of my labor.
    For that matter, since I smoke _outside in the fresh air,_ often drinking a big bottle of water over the course of a smoke, this genuinely _is_ a healthy _exercise_ in self care.

You don't inhale, proper cigars have no chemical additives (as manufactured cigarettes are laced with) and even nicotine levels are very low in well aged cigars. The flavours you can get from really good cigars are wonderful for those who can enjoy them. Eating candy and fast food is far more dangerous to one's health than smoking cigars. Traffic exhaust is VASTLY more dangerous to everyone's health than cigars or even second hand cigarette smoke. On top of that, even heavy cigarette smokers can quit and see their lungs recover considerably in a few years. Traffic pollution contains many dangerous molecules which never ever leave our lungs.
    I'm not saying at all that everyone should therefore smoke, I'm saying all the lobbyists and groups who scream and shout endlessly about banning all tobacco products should try looking into pollution and traffic issues instead of wasting everyone's time trying to ban tobacco. They should also put their efforts into banning tobacco companies from lacing cigarettes with vast quantities of chemical additives which are far more carcinogenic than anything in natural, properly fermented and aged tobacco leaves.

      Yeah cigars definitely aren't good for you, but the danger is nowhere near cigarettes and one every now and then won't probably kill you.

      Its weird how whenever someone brings up that they like a cigar or to smoke cigarettes a bunch of people start acting as if theyre a perfect picture of health. Like, we know there are some risks involved in smoking. We just dont care. We certainly dont need you lecturing us on the possible risks. If you arent a doctor and i didnt ask for your opinion, dont tell me what to do with my body.

    There’s something quite wonderful about smoking an excellent cigar. I can only count a handful of times I smoked one. Other people’s weddings (not mine out of respect for my wife), hanging with visiting friends and a few other memorable times. I can go years between smokes which is great. The smell is what I love the most. Especially reminds me of the awesome atmosphere of tailgating at college football games. If it makes you happy, then it makes you happy. Don’t let others take it away from you unless it’s truly necessary for your life connections.

    Every source of addiction comes from escaping from our inner silence.
    And then.... it doesn't matter what forms does it take, wether its cigar smoking, doing drugs, escaping to food, work, shopping, gym, sex bla bla bla... the list is endless. It's all just about keeping us away from the ultimate truth, of who you truly are.

    • @Nonduality
      @Nonduality 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do I know whether I'm addicted to certain things I do such as eat, sleep, work, maintain relationships, breathe, wash, exercise, shop, as these seem to be necessities, at least for me. For example, I have to shop for food. How do I know whether any of those activities is an addiction and an avoidance of inquiry into my true nature? What activities do you judge to be absolutely devoid of any value regarding the inquiry into true nature? And what gives you the right to make judgments or to impose limitations or to restrict attentional acts directed toward the discovery of one's true nature? Cigars are from the earth, they are a form of the planet and can be an excellent focal point for investigation of who one truly is. Or, as you note, they could be an avoidance of self-inquiry. But who are you to say conclusively what is and what is not a valid focal point for inquiry? You know darn well that everything is a doorway to the discovery of ultimate truth. I know you know that.
