I would argue the Garmin isn't designed for VFR Situational Awareness, its an IFR navigation device, whereas SkyDemon's sole purpose is for VFR flight and is to improve situational awareness.
You can get some VFR-only Garmins which display things like VRPs and airspace in a clearer way, but even then SkyDemon still shows more information in an even more useful way.
