I've been told our family was once the largest private land holder in Monticello. Until imminent domain stole all of it from us for $1 an acre. Great grandpa hung himself because of it.

Why did they need to put a dam where there was a town?

Increase the water supply to quadruple agricultural production in Solano County. Napa was against it, but lost. Napa also gave away all water rights to any Lake Berryessa water. Explore the history at www.lakeberryessanews.com/photo-album/berryessa-valley-history/

Lots of towns are buried under California lakes. Start researching. Hint, one has the word Jackson in it.
