  • I bought this hitch carrier for my family vacation so I could have an extra place to put maybe some bins or something to hold clothes. It worked SO well, but there are some slightly negative things that you may want to be aware of before buying one. Most of them have to do with the fact that if you mount it on a car with a low hitch, you run the risk of the back of the carrier dragging, especially on the entry and exit at some hotels, gas stations, etc. Overall, I think it was a GREAT choice and can think of a million and one uses for it going into the future.

    I’m so glad I found this video ! Amazon just dropped mine off and I was about to purchased $600 worth of luggage for my family of 5 but your tote idea is amazing ! Thank you 😊

    Nice review. I just got one very similar to this. It's very heavy. I have a jeep so not a lot of cargo room inside. this should help. Like the idea of using bins for more storage.

    We just found this video. We're actually going to put it on our side by side for an overland UP trip. Just thought it was funny that you basically made the same trip we did a couple of years ago. Michigan to Yellowstone to Vegas to Southern California to Zion national park to St Paul to Michigan. Thanks for your review

      I hope your trip wasn't 100 degrees plus the whole way. Ours had many locations off limits due to the heat so honestly we want to do it again! This time when it's normal temps

      @@FloydNashFixItDad we went in late April, so we still had snow at the ranch we stayed on (B Bar) near Emigrant MT. The Jackson entrance was still inaccessible. We were in California 8n the first part of May, so we had what we used to call the May gray there. But Zion was 60s and 70s. Really think this was the best time of year for everything because there were no crowds

    Looks just like the Curt system that I bought.
    By The way, I grew up in Ypsilanti Michigan.
    My wife and I left Michigan 26 years ago for Utah.

    Thanks for the informative video. I'm considering getting this hitch carrier for our new VW ID.4, because the entire rear cargo area will be filled by our 100lb. dog when we travel. My concern is getting the dog in and out of the back of the rear hatch when the carrier is in place. I think the hatch will open fine, even with the cargo bag attached, but I wonder about the distance between the carrier and the car - if it's close enough, the dog could step/jump from the carrier into the rear of the car. Or anyway, that is my hope. Any advice?

      The carrier has a rail around it that the dog would have to stop over, which raises the overall height needed to step up. It would be a pretty big step, and the space between the car and the hitch carrier isn't huge either. It's one of those things where you would have to see what happens, or if the back seat splits and folds down, you may just want to have doggy get in thru the side door.

    Nice work on this and original video. What is size of the bins you used?

      I'm sorry I failed to respond. I don't remember the exact size of the bins. Typically I would go measure them to tell you but my daughter took them all to college with her.

    Does exhaust heat warm/melt the bins or a cooler in the carrier?

    • @FloydNashFixItDad
      @FloydNashFixItDad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On my car I had no issues with any exhaust heat of any kind. I suppose it could depend on the cat though

    Does the rear facing exhaust damage the things on the carrier?

    • @FloydNashFixItDad
      @FloydNashFixItDad  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not at all. There isn't enough exhaust from this car at low speeds, and at higher speeds the airflow around the car washes out the exhaust. I had no issues from the exhaust.

    Do we need to have license plate on this carrier?. worried that it will obstruct the view of plates.

    • @FloydNashFixItDad
      @FloydNashFixItDad  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, you don't need to put the plates on this carrier. It's perfectly OK, and perfectly legal to use this even though it obstructs your plates. A bicycle rack can do the same thing.

    What is the clearance from the bottom of your hitch to the ground on the volvo?

    • @FloydNashFixItDad
      @FloydNashFixItDad  ปีที่แล้ว

      8 1/2 inches to the receiver. The safety chain attachments sit a little below that. 8 inches to the bottom of those.
