Enjoyed the ride round Gisboro, been coming up to Guisboro for forty odd years, to see my old Army mate, Des Clements, who sadly passed away about seven years ago, I still pop in now and again, And stay over at the Fiddles, thanks for the memories Jim
Great video. Think it was 1983 that I started working in the Courts there. And you drove past a couple of my old addresses. I remember the Moorcock, and the sewing factory would have still been opposite then too, though can't quite make it out.
Blast from the past. I would have been 12 when that was shot. Remember the buses called United, Hotel called the Moorcock (I had my wedding reception there).I hardly go back to Guisborough now after joining the Army in 1988. Good memories
Great video... I used to peer through the huge black doors of Blackett Hutton when I was a boy and dream about working there.. Never did get my chance, but ended up at British Steel instead, all the way through to its closure with SSI.. History of Guisborough is so forgotten and hidden..
What a class video - Thanks for sharing it. You must have used up 3 car batteries filming all that back in 1983! The police station had police cars, the ambulance station had ambulances - Those were the days!! With some careful freeze framing, I even spotted our neighbours yellow Allegro parked on Redcar Rd! Thanks again.
Great video. Was 11 in '83. Remember so much of this. Lived on Hunters Hill in Fernie Road then Rufford Close before moving to Australia. Many nights (some maybe underage) fun at Moorcock Pub on friday nights listening to Time Travellers DJ's. Was great and kinda sad seeing some of the shops and businesses on the main road that are no longer there. My mum went into labor with my brother in Rea's cafe. Anyone remember the Saturday arvo matinees at the fleapit Cinema. Great memories. Thx for U/L.
I come from great ayton and many times up and down there as a kid , but in 1983 i was in hong kong with the army as i left great ayton in 79 to join up and now live in thirsk, a nice old video of a great town.
Very nice to watch. I left Guisborough in 1985 and came to the Middle East. Been back a few times, this video brings back nice memories, not a great deal of changes mind. It was nice to see LJS, the Police Station, Garth Surgery, The Swan, The Church, the High Street in general. Thanks for sharing the video...... Wonderful watching it. Good music as well.
Great video this. It's amazing how much has remained the same really - New Road, Bolkow Street, Redcar Rd, even the High Street - all pretty much exactly the same over 30 years on. I vaguely remember the old foundry (Blacketts?) opposite what is now the TA Club. I remember the Moorcock too.
Well done on the video. Loved every minute of it. I was aound 9 at the time and was just about to move into Headly Street with my mam. Number 8. How times have changed....great job
Great footage! Laughed when I saw Gaye Days! Loved seeing that old white and blue striped Escort Mk2 on the high street. I remember my brother filmed something similar roundabout the same time from Hunters Hill to Boro....now he films for regional BBC
Nice one. I remember standing watching at the open doors of the Blackett Hutton foundry for hours. Remember working many sessions at the Moorcock over 3 or 4 years, for some reason seem to recall cashing-up 2 grand over the lounge bar Fridays, mid-70's
Haha, was that Gaye days to the left? I remember gift and gadgets... Wow...I hated gisboring back then, now I miss guisborough of back then. Priceless upload. Cheers mate. Nothing like looking back
I was expecting a roundabout, well I wasn’t, because I know the bypass is new. But I can remember it not being there without remembering what it was like.
So,So many changes since 1983, your new vid taken in 2015. shows such a difference, although if the same route was filmed again today (2023) nothing has change since 2015, Has Guisborough stopped for a rest lol?
For info the video is still on, some reason it doesn't work on certain phones. Always works on computers I think, Tried to alter all settings I can think of so it works on all platforms.
I moved to Guisborough in 1985 (now live a long long way away) and used to go shopping at Fine Fare and used to drink in that pub which I now cannot remember the name of... argh, what was it called???? Anyway - thanks for the upload. Looking forward to my visit there in a few weeks and I remember it more like it is in the video. Great memories...
Gits and Gadgets...my god that seems a lifetime ago.
Shops and banks come and go, but Boyes will never die.
So glad to spot Delboy in Guisbrough too🙂
Thanks for the memories. Lived on Hunter's Hill in 1979/80. Still love to visit when I'm on holiday over there. Suddenly feel homesick!!
Thanks for sharing. Fascinating video.
If this was filmed on a weekday and you'd popped over to Galley Hill School, I could have been in the video. 🙂 I was 6 years old back then.

My Dad bought me Bowie's Low LP when it came out from Gaye Days.

Brilliant! There were lots of things I'd forgotten about. I like the Reliant Robin appearing near the police station.
Thanks for comments, brings back good memories :)

You not got the dual carriageway from Nunthorpe to guisborough when the second half was single lane? It’s like a distant cloudy memory for me.
