That ain’t curiosity. Its behavior is based on real predators in the wild, who act the same way. It was sizing him up, possibly playing with him before deciding to kill him. If mark had immediately started running from it, it would’ve started chasing him sooner. The AI is on purpose I believe, and it’s super creepy :x

Kinda like how I respond when I get spooked. I'm both scared and want to fight the thing that scared me. Well, I want to fight them for at least a moment. Like the other night when I went out to check out cows out in the field after work (I've lived on a farm my whole life and work swing shift, so it's usually my job to check on the animals after to work to make sure all is okay). While out there a few nights ago, I was scratching one of our cows and realized I saw a couple pairs of little eyes close to the ground in the dark. They were still in our pasture, not the neighboring ones, and I knew where all our cows were. Those weren't our cows. I know we have some coyote packs around, and they don't bother our adult cows but they do come around sometimes. I've just never seen them that close. But, since I'm extremely protective of our cows, and since we just had our first calf of the year be born and our sheep are also up by the house, I wanted to scare of the coyotes just in case. So, despite it being like 3 am and very heckin dark, I started walking boldly at the coyotes and telling them to fuck off. Yelling that I see their bitch asses and that I'm no afraid to throw hands with a coyote. I definitely didn't want to, but I was prepared to. I didn't have a weapon, but my foot can pack quite the punch. They did run off, as I expected them to, since they're wild canines and not cornered. But they took a bit to run off, and kept turning back around as if to check if I was bluffing. But I kept at em, yelling and saying to piss off. I was a bit spooked yes, but I'm also extremely protective of my animals and property, so I was not afraid to throw hands with a coyote (also cuz I knew they're not much of a threat to humans, considering I've literally seen one turn and run with its tail between its legs simply because a cow 40 feet away looked at it, snorted, and threw her head. It was gone after that). There have also been cases where coworkers jump scare me at work around a corner, and my immediate reaction is to jump while also cursing them out. I have both fight and flight response, with the severity of either all depending on the moment. So I get Mark doing that, cuz same lol.
Mark's instant distress at the bird sent me 😹 Also, I weirdly love the movement of the bird, it's so animalistic. I have no idea if these mascots are animatronics or just made of plastic but the animal behavior element made that dang bird so much more frightening!
So glad I'm still not the only one appreciating the bird. The first time I watched a playthrough, I was tired and almost falling asleep. That bird coming at you and unpredictably stopping to seemingly assess the situation, my mind was cleared from sleep.
Despite the shitty jumpscare, the terror of the bird is really well made, the way he just slowly approaches you leaving you completely cornered is TERRIFYING, the sense of doom is really well executed here.
The AI for the bird was really creepy. I don't even know if it was intentional or not but the way it doesn't immediately rush at you to kill you straight away and instead stops to look at you is pretty terrifying. Like it's sizing you up.
It just wants you to realize how powerless you are as death slowly creeps up to you, every bit of hope fading as you slowly watch it waddle closer to you, you entire life slowly seeping away and you can't do anything about it
It wasn’t funny. Mark, 8bit Ryan and most other TH-camrs probably got paid to play the game and say it was good. I don’t know the amount exactly but I don’t think a hundred bucks is enough for someone to give out dignity
I'm just floored over how realistic it is. How it didn't start actively chasing until Mark starts actively running, probably triggering its prey response where it no knows its something it should chase/eat.
i honestly dont think that this is a mechanic but just the ai not being able to read the players location correctly. I have seen many playthroughs were the bird just straig up sprints at the player
I don’t think this game has ANY thought put into it at ALL. The characters just like in rainbow friends a ROBLOX GAME are based on colours and nothing else. Played this game and finished it in like 10 minutes. Not worth your time. It sometimes even feels like people get MONEY to give this game unnecessary credit. There are so many actually GOOD indie horror titles like OMORI and DOORS and you chose this to make popular? Shame.

Wave your arms around you head. NEVER RUN. You’re trying to convince it that you would put up a fight if it attacked, and that it would get more hurt than you’re worth. That being said, do NOT get any closer to it. You NEVER want it thinking you are a threat to its safety, otherwise it will believe it has no choice but to attack you. Back away slowly and never break eye contact. (Tbh, what Mark does at 13:55 is fairly accurate to what you’re supposed to do, so props to him)
Reading other comments, it's because often that's how predators in the wild hunt. They start by sizing up their target, figuring out if it's a threat, maybe playing with it. Then the chase begins.
13:38 Just like real life I think there is something absolutely bone chilling when an animal that is supposed to flee from humans or be scared of them stands their ground. It's just that "that's not normal, that's not right." Mentality that makes your hair stand up.

The scariest bit about that damn bird is the foot prints up the wall that show it has previously climbed its way back out using its beak like a ice pick.
this is exactly what i was thinking and it makes it so much scarier. especially how dark and engraved the marks are, its climbed up the wall more than once or twice methinks
i could not for the life of me understand what the dots in between the footprints were thats terrifying it shows it has pretty high intelligence to be able to use its beak like that

Its kind of funny how both this game and poppy's playtime (at least the first chapter) only have one bit in the game where you can actually loose. Most horror games the monster or threat is pursuing you throughout the entire game but in this game the bird chases after you for about 10 percent of the overall playtime. The rest is just puzzles. Kind of removes the whole horror factor when you can take your leisurely time finding the eggs without having to worry about something scary coming to kill you.
there is so much more to horror though than just chase sequences and death. Athmosphere and build-up in general is needed for those moments to be scary, otherwise its just "oke annoying enemy #3 lemme just loop around here and then press the button loop back and get throught the door". Constantly being chased just makes the chase boring
Tbf predictability is a factor in every horror game the second time you play it. Little Nightmares, for example. I love that game series so much, and on replay, there are a lot of spots that I blaze through much faster than before because I'm less tentative.
That bird is creepy as hell, Jesus! The way it just...stares at you, like a predator, never losing focus on you. But then it doesn't just pounce on you, but goes for you methodically. Sizes you up. Approaches thoughtfully. That was VERY well done. That tickled some deep-seated, primal fear in me.

Fun tip: There's one more egg in the room past the Opila Bird. It's on one of the hanging ceiling portions. Get it and feed it to the Opila Bird (which can only be done before opening the door on the other side of the pit) for another keycard. This leads to an optional room that gives you a little more (very little) of the story. Relevant to the story: "Distraction at 1" refers to the events of the clickable flashback. Note what happens at 1:00. From the boarding pass, we can assume that this takes place in Montreal, Quebec. Also that someone did _not_ make their flight.

That bird is unambiguously one of the most unsettling things i've seen in a horror game in a while and it's like...Not even doing anything explicitly creepy or weird. It just...Is watching you. It's watching you and getting slightly closer, and not breaking eye contact. It doesn't even have a jump scare it just get's you. 10/10 Would cry again.
Burb is terrifying. It's stalking you like a predator. In a few short seconds it reminded me of the stories I've heard of unfortunate hikers who have come face to face with hungry, unafraid animals in the wild.
Moments like 3:46 are just classic. Mark thinking he has missed something, yet unable to admit it due to intelligence. When he finds out he missed something, just a nod of acknowledgment to the camera.
15:41 now that I see it closer im starting to see that the holes are the birds beak, so it was using its beak to climb back up at some point when ad distant person did this or something. and the talons look like they have blood on them! First time ive seen this up close while watching someone play this game!
People have mixed opinions on it because even if the gameplay is "fun", it's nothing more but a cheap knockoff of something of higher quality I mostly mean Poppy Playtime, which also isn't to interesting, but at least has quality put into it.

Dude this game feels like a satire on Indie Horror and at the same time unironically has the best scares out of any of them. That scene with the bird was genuinely creepy.
Honestly, feels like a love letter! Taking coming elements and then really using them! I thought this was a joke game but honestly the moment I read the thing about parents losing kids and how serious it was I was hooked! And the idea of a weird kids charicter now monster was done amazingly! I honestly had chills when it stopped it and looked him up and down, then charged... made it feel real and genuinely scary

It’s not scary in the slightest, the character designs are even worse than rainbow friends (and those are really bad too) and the whole game is just a walking simulator with bad drone mechanics. This game makes me want to make my own horror game even though I have no experience and make it actually scary with unique game mechanics. It feels like the developers wants to lure people into playing so they can make a lot of money and make merch, it just feels like a cash grab .

Yeah the old Roblox "oof" sound effect with the chairs was actually kinda funny, as well as the "wheee!" when it spun across the room, was not expecting the chair physics to turn it into a ballerina lol Btw, yes, those were edited in, this is the second playthrough I've seen of this and they definitely weren't in the other one. Were there other added ones as well? Possibly but those two stood out the most to me so I probably missed any other
having watched the stream where he recorded all of this, it's really fun to go from the memory of the raw recording and see how Lixian and Marcus edited this. It makes the final, fully edited video feel more like an art project from two editors rather than a straight up Markiplier video. I can see why a lot of people don't like this game, but I think it's hilarious (and just my preferred amount of unsettling), even without Mark's commentary. *_"Sharing is caring! Your pancreas is mine!"_* screen printed on the wall of a daycare is one of the funniest things I have ever seen, and I love the _bonk_ of the drone. Also, the bird not just gunning for you, instead sizing you up like an actual animal was fantastic.
Yeah for me, the game jus kinda reeks of "we developed this as a quarter assed way to cash on the 'kids horror's market", especially with the merch plug in the title screen literally day of release
The bird scene is an excellent example of terror over horror, you didn't get scared from the jumpscare, rather everything was telling you DO NOT approach this bird as it closes in on you with the curiosity of an animal but the knowledge of how to use a lift and another cool detail is right above the birds feet there are holes where the bird drove its beak into SOLID concrete to help itself climb out of the abyss, very cool environmental storytelling
Dang, some people are so mad in the comments. Yeah, it's not the most original concept, but I liked how they animated the bird. It moves in a way that feels different from other horror monsters. I also like the companion cube-esque drone buddy we have. I can't wait to see something terrible happen with that once we get comfortable.
To be fair, the bird part had a really good set up. Jumpscare was hilariously awful, and the chase was laughably short, but the part where it was just stalking you is something I’d love to see better games use.

I don’t think this game has ANY thought put into it at ALL. The characters just like in rainbow friends a ROBLOX GAME are based on colours and nothing else. Played this game and finished it in like 10 minutes. Not worth your time. It sometimes even feels like people get MONEY to give this game unnecessary credit. There are so many actually GOOD indie horror titles like OMORI and DOORS and you chose this to make popular? Shame.

That being said, do NOT get any closer to it. You NEVER want it thinking you are a threat to its safety, otherwise it will believe it has no choice but to attack you. Back away slowly and never break eye contact.

The scariest bit about that damn bird is the foot prints up the wall that show it has previously climbed its way back out using its beak like a ice pick.
this is exactly what i was thinking and it makes it so much scarier. especially how dark and engraved the marks are, its climbed up the wall more than once or twice methinks

Its kind of funny how both this game and poppy's playtime (at least the first chapter) only have one bit in the game where you can actually loose. Most horror games the monster or threat is pursuing you throughout the entire game but in this game the bird chases after you for about 10 percent of the overall playtime. The rest is just puzzles. Kind of removes the whole horror factor when you can take your leisurely time finding the eggs without having to worry about something scary coming to kill you.
there is so much more to horror though than just chase sequences and death. Athmosphere and build-up in general is needed for those moments to be scary, otherwise its just "oke annoying enemy #3 lemme just loop around here and then press the button loop back and get throught the door". Constantly being chased just makes the chase boring

Tbf predictability is a factor in every horror game the second time you play it. Little Nightmares, for example. I love that game series so much, and on replay, there are a lot of spots that I blaze through much faster than before because I'm less tentative.
That bird is creepy as hell, Jesus! The way it just...stares at you, like a predator, never losing focus on you. But then it doesn't just pounce on you, but goes for you methodically. Sizes you up. Approaches thoughtfully. That was VERY well done. That tickled some deep-seated, primal fear in me.

That bird is unambiguously one of the most unsettling things i've seen in a horror game in a while and it's like...Not even doing anything explicitly creepy or weird. It just...Is watching you. I can see why a lot of people don't like this game, but I think it's hilarious (and just my preferred amount of unsettling), even without Mark's commentary.
*_"Sharing is caring! Your pancreas is mine!"_* screen printed on the wall of a daycare is one of the funniest things I have ever seen, and I love the _bonk_ of the drone.
Also, the bird not just gunning for you, instead sizing you up like an actual animal was fantastic.
Yh just like poppy playtime I really enjoyed the chase sequence. Everything else was kinda sub par
Yeah for me, the game jus kinda reeks of "we developed this as a quarter assed way to cash on the 'kids horror's market", especially with the merch plug in the title screen literally day of release
The bird scene is an excellent example of terror over horror, you didn't get scared from the jumpscare, rather everything was telling you DO NOT approach this bird as it closes in on you with the curiosity of an animal but the knowledge of how to use a lift and another cool detail is right above the birds feet there are holes where the bird drove its beak into SOLID concrete to help itself climb out of the abyss, very cool environmental storytelling
It also means that the boy defeated the monster before we got involved/

Yeah, it's not the most original concept, but I liked how they animated the bird. It moves in a way that feels different from other horror monsters.
I also like the companion cube-esque drone buddy we have. I can't wait to see something terrible happen with that once we get comfortable.

To be fair, the bird part had a really good set up. Jumpscare was hilariously awful, and the chase was laughably short, but the part where it was just stalking you is something I’d love to see better games use.

That bird bringing in the horror spirit of its real-life bird counterparts. Birds are scary and that bird is the scariest part of this whole heckin game.

Just because someone put passion into a project doesn't give them a pass for criticism, nor does that mean it's automatically likeable/worth anything. Hell even games that are considered "the best" or "high quality" have problems. Cyberpunk being an example (more or so on high quality). How about instead of complaining y'all just, idk... Watch someone else play "better games" whatever the hell that means to you guys; let creators be entitled to their own opinions, and let them enjoy games they want to enjoy, even if the selection of games isn't up to standard. This isn't a hive-mind.

The bird gave me chills. The way it didn't immediately charge but seemed to observe the player with a sort of predatory curiosity was genuinely scary.

A pink bird that's nearly as tall as you staring at you with is cold dead eyes never once taking it's eyes off you as it slowly approaches almost curiously. I've watched this scene like 5 times and always get goosebumps.
