Also wanna point out how Abuela takes off a flower on Isabella’s head that didn’t match the others just so she was perfect in the scene where they are eating outside. Is a really good way of showing how much pressure Abuela puts on them and Isabella particularly to be perfect in every way.
If you pay attention to we dont talk about bruno. In her part people assume it's her bragging but bruno also "cursed" her. He says she would be perfect and abuela subsequently tries to ensure that that is the case
@@TraaaaaasshBooooaaaatttt you make such a good point as alot of people see the idea of being perfect to be a blessing if you are seemingly perfect their are immense burdens that come with it
Isabella blushing those flowers out her hair at the mention of FIVE BABIES was a subtle indication of Isa's fear, there being one white asymmetrical flower out the side showed her desire to be less "perfect", it was a subtle joke to stress causing white hairs; AAAAND, Abuela plucking it out like an eyesore to be corrected, was a subtle symbolism of the toxic family dynamic.
I didn't see it as a desire to be less perfect, put a white "hair" popping out from the stress of feeling forced to do something she didn't want to do.
7:25 she's actually very happy that Antonio got his Gift, she gets upset when Abuela tells him "I knew you could do it, a Gift just as special as you." Because it makes her feel like it was her fault she didn't get one.
Its also the *exact line* the grandma said to her on her day. The words where special to her but the grandma just reused them like it was meaningless praise.
@@Dania77371 well that sucks, I’d rather get a gift than be the personification of it and being an ordinary human when everyone else in my fam have one
No, I’m pretty sure the casita itself is her gift, in a way. It broke apart when her emotions started getting out of control and she started finding out the trauma everyone was going through. I think it reflects her emotions, in a way, which was why the house broke down when she did, and rebuilt when she became happy.
The biggest sin that was missed completely is ...how did Mirabel get back across the chasm from Bruno's vision cave? Huge deal made about the difficulty getting across, and then completely forgotten about.
Movies always show the journey to a place, but they never show the journey back from that place. Usually because it's either pointless to show or because it would be unnecessary filler in the runtime or because budget.
Dolores spilling the beans about the miracle being in danger was a tactical move. If that dinner had gone off without a hitch the man of her dreams would have married her cousin.
@@dmcmahondm my daughter had me watch it. I was just like "yeaa, ok sure if it'll make you happy" and by then end was like "damn... that's actually a really good point."
Bruno didn’t leave because he was hoping the vision would miraculously not come true. He left because he knew his family and he knew that they (especially abuela) would blame Mirabel for this. It didn’t matter she was five years old, she would have seen Mirabel as a threat and probably hurt her even worse than she actually did
don’t know if they would hurt mirabel as that is too gruesome. especially someone who lost their loved one to murder. but yes. they would have blamed bruno
@@BP_on_ice No you responded to their comment as if you think they would physically hurt Mirabel when it's not that kind of movie they would only hurt her emotions.
The producer mentioned on twitter that Bruno using the sand and all the extra bells and whistles was not just to physically show the vision, but to help him focus more on the finer details of it.👍 He also mentions that Bruno gets these visions almost constantly, hence his exhausted insomniatic disposition. The room was explained too. It wasn't that big before. The amount of stairs is symbolic to the distance between himself and his family.
@Shadow Swirl Yes, because people always see the bad in what he shows them. In the end, the "reconciliation vision" turns out to still be a good thing. Which is the entire point with Bruno: He'll see into the future, tell people about it, and people will choose the worst possible interpretation of the vision.
I love how his "They survived this" running joke of a sin wasn't because of the character falling like 20 stories unharmed this time, but because she spoke back to her grandmother lol
Technically she survived receiving a huge slap from her grandmother... But it's a Disney movie, not a Colombian telenovela...or a A real situation in any Latin American country.
I wanted Abuela to lose the essence/magic of the gift with how awful she was to her family. I also wanted the other family members to apologize for not standing up for Mirabel more to Abuela (especially her own parents). Mirabel was the scapegoat child clearly, it makes sense why she felt drawn to Bruno, he was a scapegoat child as well.
Mirabel's father stood up for Mirabel a lot. I think a lot of people forget that Abuela is Julieta's MOM... and Abuela is very manipulative. Anyone who has had a parent like Abuela knows you can't stand up to them directly
Honestly, I don't blame Julieta too much for not being more vocal when it comes to defending Mirabel, since you have to remember that she grew up with Abuela as a mom for her whole life, and it can be very scary to stand up to an abusive parent when that's all you've been used to
13:07 sin for CinemaSins calling Pepa "Julieta" even though there was a whole song at the start of the movie naming each family member along with their assigned gifts.
“are we supposed to know dolores is a gossip” yes. the little squeak she makes is a common thing in latin culture to signify someone likes to gossip/is a gossip/can’t keep a secret
Also along with right after 'the family madrigal' song she says that Mirabel doesn't have a gift which to me does come off as gossip sense the children didn't know and Mirabel obviously didn't want to tell the kids
@@Disig she tells Mirabel he hears him in the walls durning we don’t talk about Bruno. And when Mirabel asked about the cracks she says she hears rats and talking in the walls
@@Disig Bruno has been "gone" for 10 years. She probably has outright said it and been dismissed as having an "active imagination" and whatever else they say about children.
Felix is probably my favorite character. He loves his wife, heck, he didn't give a damn he married her in a hurricane! He's super patient with Pepa's anxiety to the point when Abuela complains about Pepa's weather and Pepa says she's doing her best, Felix has this "fuck off MIL" look as he sides with his wife. He married the one who has the most chaotic ability/ mental state and he's vibing being her rock. As someone who suffers from severe anxiety I appreciate and wish more people had empathy like that man.
I love Bruno so much. I just wanted to reach through my screen and hug him. That little bit of his room behind the walls with his "plate" drawn on the table sits he could still feel like he was part of family dinner every night actually made me cry when I watched the movie.
"You have a gift. A superhuman level of empathy for those asshole. What you don't have is a door" THIS ! This is what I've been thinking all the way throught the movie. Damn, it feels good when someone else says it
Not to mention her ability to seemingly slow down time during the family photo scene, as she was able to go IN FRONT of the camera without any issues, and leave the room only for her to run back in, meaning it wasn't imagination.
@@Deathkri I guess it is an "out of diegesis" stuff, but I must confess since it does affect the world around, as you described it, I am as much confused as you are about that. But hey, gotta suspense that disbelief I guess.
"'She's gonna tell everyone' But why does she tell everyone right away?" She has the incentive to mess up the proposal, and this drama is perfect for it. Remember she's in love with the man about to propose to her cousin. Being able to mess up that proposal was a gift sent from the heavens to Dolores.
But she doesn't know that the person she will love is Dolore's fiancé; and even if she did, there's no moment for us before that we Dolores as a gossip-monger or petty. No matter what, it is still highly contrived.
@@kstephenson5857 actually the little squeaks Dolores makes when talking is a Colombian mannerism that indicates the information is something the speaker is sharing that their not supposed to know, in other words gossip.
@@kstephenson5857 The "5 babies" was definitely a petty add-in. No way he was JUST talking about it, especially with the slight side eye she did right after.
@@kstephenson5857 Mariano and Isabela have been dating for a few years but Dolores has had a crush on him for longer. When it came out that Isabela and Mariano were getting engaged of course she was hella mad. She even said in We Don't Talk About Bruno "He told me that the man of my dreams will be just out of reach, betrothed to another" and right before that she was looking out to Mariano. So doing anything to mess it up would be her main goal. And her hearing could also pick at something that Isabela said at one time talking to herself, which is probably along the lines of "This is fine, I'll marry Mariano for the family" since she never wanted to marry him or date him in the first place.
How come everyone forgets who Dolores's mother is? The "overly emotional" woman who can summon hurricane whenever she's extremely stressed and thunder when Bruno's name is even mentioned? Y'all really don't think, to avoid the consequences of her mothers reactions, Dolores wasn't conditioned to not talk about Bruno?
It's funny because Pepa seems to only be so stressed about Bruno because he made her think rain-thoughts on her wedding, no other reason. But nobody actually has a real reason to be mad at Bruno, anyways.
@@mii_kay4514 a famous headcanon in the fandom is that Pepa and Bruno didn't have that much of a great relationship since they were kids, but Pepa still loved him. The real reason why she was so upset in him was because he left. That's all just a headcanon tho, so 🤷🏽♀️
I believe Abuela was an antagonist because she was the reason her family felt pressure to be perfect. A lot of people forgive Abuela way too easily just because she experienced trauma. Just because someone went through hard times doesn’t give them the right to project it onto others. That’s how abuse continues in families if they aren’t mindful about working on themselves and healthy ways to cope with trauma. Poor Mirabel was the black sheep and the family’s emotional punching bag. No one should ever be treated like that. Abuela is the kind of antagonist that changes over the course of the story and becomes a better person. You can’t deny that she was pretty awful and abusive to Mirabel before she reconciled near the end.
I would like to acknowledge the fact that they never looked for Bruno after he left. I mean Dolores had super hearing, Luisa could easily help them scale over walls, and Mirabel's mom could easily heal injuries. For a movie about family, they sure are quick to abandon one.
I mean that was the point of the movie? The main reason they were having issues and the magic was dying was because they focused more on their community and their outer image to the community than they did on their own family and each other. Mirabel spends a good portion of the movie talking to her siblings and hearing the inner conflicts that they've driven themselves to hide for the sake of their Abuela and their image to her and the community.
@@gc0009 what do u mean?????? There was no villain, thats kinda the point. Everything abuela did came from wanting to protect their family even if her methods caused more harm than good
10:58 Actually, the casita cannot enter any of the “gift rooms”. This point is upheld in the movie. This is why mirabel acts surprised when casita cannot enter the room, as mirabel had always been used to casita in the nursery. This is also why Luisa had to train in the hallway/balcony thing, due to luisa’s room not having a treadmill i assume.
Actually, Jared Bush (one of the directors) confirmed on Twitter that Casita CAN enter the magic rooms, the only reason Casita couldn't enter Bruno's room was that at the time Bruno was cut off from the family, best shown by his door being dimmed.
Mirabel definitely had a gift, even if the others couldn't see it, and she didn't have a schmancy room... She was super talented and artistic, with making her clothes and stuffies (Antonio's little jaguar) and crafty things, she could sing and dance, and she was a very outgoing and supportive person who just wanted to help. I want to hug her so much!
People probably already pointed this out but it's pretty established that Dolores did in fact know Bruno was still there, living in the walls. There is a part of the song "We don't talk about Bruno" where she literally sings "i can hear him now", so she did know he was there and kept the secret for years. This makes the fact she immediately spills the secret about the vision even more of a sin.
Tbf i think her spilling the secret was more "Finally, a way this can be fixed, I'm sick of hiding everything/being told im lying when I mention it. Mirabel's problem now."
While i agree that Dolores knew about Bruno, her singing "I can hear him now" was immediately after singing about the love of her life, and just before he appears in the song
I think that the part where she reveals that she knows about Bruno is "I can always hear him sort of muttering and mumbling". The "I can hear him now" sounds more like Dolores remembering his words and understanding them better
Two things - 1) Pepa is the one that controls the weather, Julietta heals with food. 2) in We Don’t Talk About Bruno, Dolores literally says “I can always hear him sort of muttering and mumbling.” So yeah she knew and even told us early on.
@@SomePerson_Online it’s pretty heavily hinted and theorized that Dolores HAD mentioned something about hearing Bruno and she was just brushed off because of how Bruno left and their relationship with him
@@SomePerson_Online yes, because, do you notice NO ONE really dares approach Abuela unless necessary. Literally the only one to confront her, ither than Mirabel, was Mirabels mother in her defense. The woman was a toxic, emotionally abusive matriarch. You don't tell her anything she doesn't WANT to hear.
"The only ones worried about the walls are the rats...and Luisa." Bruno hangs out with the rats. The only other one to know about Bruno is probably Antonio because he can talk to animals.
i love how the Madrigals have to impress the other family at the dinner scene like, your son will be marrying the prettiest girl in the village and their children will jave supernatural powers but you walk out after 1 bad dinner???
I agree, this made no sense. Considering how whipped the dads are with Pepa and mirabells mom, they people should be begging to have their son marry Isabella. If they walked out, they should have just laughed and said, well it is your loss, have a good day!
@@finalfant111 My guess is that since Abuela wants to keep the magic going for as long as possible, she wants everyone married soon, so that they can have kids soon and so on and so forth….them letting them leave would delay that and they would have to look for another “perfect” guy for Isabela who seems to be the “next in line” for marriage.
Stephanie beatriz really nailed this role. They did a great job separating mirabel from belle and Ariel among others in terms of character and backstory but her energy is what sold me on the character
Fun fact! Stephanie was originally auditioning for the role of Luisa but the casting people thought her energy fit Mirabel and asked her to try for that role too. The rest is history!
Really? Because it's what ruined it for me. The whole movie is like an annoying child screaming for your attention when you're on the phone with someone important.
@@jbrisby basically every Disney movie these days 😁 not saying she’s joining the ranks of Angela Lansbury anytime soon but out of the entire voice cast she seemed the most invested. The auditioning process is always the most difficult for an animated musical with the visual effects a close second
Not hard to separate literally anyone from Ariel and half the princesses. Ariel gave her voice and almost killed her ppl fr a guy she didn't know. You can only go up from there
Bruno left 10 years ago and prophesized that a lady's fish would die the day before it did. The fish lady apparently kept her dead fish in a fishbowl for at least a decade.
I just assumed that it was another fish she had killed. Like maybe he was just trying to warn her of her bad pet ownership. Maybe she just constantly tries to keep fish, but ends up killing them. "They don't eat often, right? Like once a week? A month?"
You could see the partial cult conditioning of the family by Abuela during that breakfast meeting, as she sets forth duties and ends it with a group chant: la familia madrigal! Not to mention that she was seeing her granddaughter as a baby factory. And it was a bit shallow for the Mariano love interest to be attracted to Isabella more than the other two options of Luisa and Delores.
Are we really not gonna talk about the fact that Bruno would have heard the “we don’t talk about Bruno” song, where his own family trash talks him? Dude needs a hug
He did, that's why he immediately went to explain to Pepa that he never meant to mess up her wedding. Camillo's description of Bruno shows he was scared of him. 7 foot? Bruno is shorter than Maribel . Everything turns to black because he fainted
Actually, the reason Bruno went into hiding, was to prevent the family from knowing the prophecy, and therefore treating Mirabel differently. I do agree with how he hid the prophecy, but considering the bridge was broken, I'm assuming it was broken, because either he broke it, or magic broke it, because he was leaving, and therefore it would've taken a lot of effort to get to the vision cave in the first place. I mean, look at how much effort Mirabel had to put in just to climb all the stairs and get to the vision cave. A lot. This is me though. I do agree with the bedroom thing though. How come she couldn't have her own damn bedroom! Also yes, very good foreshadowing! I always tear up during that scene. He carved his own damn plate!
The reason Dolores said Mariano wants 5 babies (according to someone in the production team, can't remember who exactly) was to make Isabela lose interest in him. I also believe she talked about the prophecy during dinner to make a mess and ruin the engagement.
@@desiree7633 because the movie never said it. I feel like it's kind of cheap to add extra context after the fact and make it seem like that was what you were going for all along
Isnt that weird though? Like why wouldnt she know Isabela doesnt want to marry Mariano if she hears everything? that just seems like a plot hole lol i doubt Isabella doesnt complain about him when shes alone
@@eclipseacnologia5620 the reason i can think of is what would she do? tell her not to marry him? shed know that Isabel wasn't doing it because she wanted to, but doing it because she felt she had to. but the main pice of the story is that everyone felt as if they didn't have control of who they were to live their lives. they couldn't make choices so what was Dolores supposed to do? the only other way to go about things would make him not want her. although all the other jobs shes giving (like the 5 babies) is because she was salty. isabel acted obnoxious and like a princess. you can tell not everyone liked that about her, not just Miribal. It seemed like Isabel had a perfect life and even if you know that perfect princess doesn't actually have it all, its still hard to feel sympathy for them all the time, especial when they center stage, getting all the attention from everyone. family, friends, the one you love. a lil saltiness is bound to emerge from time to time.
@@eclipseacnologia5620 I mean, assuming she talks to herself out loud, having lived her whole life with a family member who has super hearing? I feel like she's been keeping it very under wraps, particularly since the first time she actually said it out loud in the movie resulted in such an emotional power burst that she made a cactus for the first time.
gotta say, this was the first one were I could actually contest most of these sins with the story telling element of the movie. like Mirabelle actively making the kid look at the positive and tell him she'll be happy even though she wouldn't be is just her being the positive ball of sunshine to hide the pain of rejection and appear more reliable than she needed to try to be. Loved the bonus round btw
I loved how in the famous "Bruno" song, when everyone else paints Bruno as this dark, foreboding, menacing presence, Dolores is the only character to empathise with him, and other than Camilo, the only person to discuss him in the present tense. You can even see him on the balcony during Mirabel and Dolores' dance, if you look carefully.
You can also see a shape that looks very much like him on the second floor when Mirabel walks into the Casita and the rest of the family are getting ready for the ceremony. Though you actually have to see the movie itself to spot it.
16:52 actually it’s entirely logical that they know how to build houses. None of the amazing Mardigrals have carpentry gifts, they don’t magic houses together. During the composition dump song at the start of the movie it even shows that the houses are built by the general citizens. They get to Abuela discussing their duty to the town and she helps pass along bricks to the townsfolk currently building a house. The most help they get from a Mardigral is Luisa carrying over a heavy pile of bricks all at once for them to use
Honestly thats what confused me about the whole madrigals gifts are important to the town thing. only like 3 of them actually seem genuinely helpful. super strength, healing, and weather control
@@mark1A100 ikr? They don’t have any exports so Isabela’s wasted gift(which could probably be used for agriculture) is just for aesthetics. Shapeshifting is neat and all but considering it’s strictly people he can shift into there really isn’t any actual irreplaceable necessity for him to be impersonating everyone. Dolores is only a thing because Abuela doesn’t know how to leave well enough alone and wanted to keep an ear to the pulse of the Encanto. Even the weather control isn’t great, because it’s based on emotions it’s more a curse than a blessing. If she wants to water the crops she has to sit in the field forcing herself to feel miserable the entire time. Honestly Pepe’s side of the family seems cursed
@@phantomfire5013 you’ve got a point, but I don’t think Julieta could be there for everyone at the same time. I think Isabella’s gift could be used as a more widespread way to help the villagers 👀
My favourite detail is is when Abuela is speaking to the family at the table and is excited about the prospect of a ‘new generation of magical blessings’ which shows that all she sees in them is new magical gifts. When Mirabel sings the intro song she says ‘and every year our family blessings grow’. She doesn’t care about the magic, she just cares about her family.
12:38- that's actually a good point; I never made sense to me that Alma was pushing so hard for Isabela to marry Mariano; his family isn't established as being important in Encanto; he's just some random dude who liked Isabela.
Something I haven't seen mention anywhere Is The vision Bruno has about Mirabel. Her standing In front of the broken Casita or a fixed Casita depending on how you look at it. But after watching the movie, the way I saw it was that she has to break it to fix it and make it stronger
I like that. It's pretty what happens and makes you think... I really think that as much as they are angry at Mirabel for poking the beehive (early in time, actually, as it wasn't intended that way), they needed to keep out of the confort zone to understand what was happening and fix it. So making things break was a way to fix them. A drastic and accidental one, but still. So your point of view is really topnotch
16:00 That's accurate. In a lot of families (most notably those from Africa, South and Central America, and the West Indies) talking back to your mother like that will get you the worst beating of your life.
Because that's what any person who has been treated like that would say. If he's been conditioned to think he's horrible, he'll apologize for nothing. Honestly kind of sad imo
You mentioned how Bruno found out he needed open space etc but I have the same questions about Julietta's gift. How does she discover that baking heals people? It's not like her door ceremony would have come with a roll and a person with a broken arm right? If she had extra things baked before the candle went out, could that have continued to heal people? Is she given a magical recipe? Would *that* continue to work? Argh I have so many questions!!
4:01 THANK YOU FOR POINTING THIS OUT! This was my biggest issue with the film when I first saw it. Mirabel is quick to forgive Abuela for treating her like crap... fine... but that doesn't undo all the name calling and constant blame she received from the REST of her family - Isabella especially.
Why you all making it seem like all the family treated her like that it's litterly Abuela who treated her like that because of not having a gift . And for Isa it has nothing to do with the gift it's just a sibling thing
@@khaditofi3367 I strongly disagree. Her siblings are quick to immidiately blame her when things go wrong and none of them ever stand up for her or make her feel welcome when Abuela is cruel to her either. I grew up with 3 siblings and the way they treat her is not just "normal sibling stuff"
@@khaditofi3367 isabela always blamed her for everything and treated her as if she's useless and she never got to know mirabel more than the giftless madrigal who always gets in the way, mirabel had to be the one to realize her struggles but isabela didn't even acknowledge how shitty she was
@@quinnperry3197 The only people in the family who were mean though were Abuela, Isabela, and maybe Pepa. Her parents were caring and even fought against Abuela. Dolores helped her momentarily, Camilo had like 0 interactions with her, Antonio was cute, and Luisa clearly loves her sister when you look at the way she talks to her. The siblings didn't stand up for her because of their trauma; they were too scared to go up to her.
I love the fact he brings attention to the god complex their family has, it’d be funny to see a sequel with another family in the same position they’re in and see whose pride breaks first
Supposedly this experience in which the Madrigal Family went from losing their powers, served to recognize their weaknesses to the audience and become better people... Such an idea would be the equivalent of a di...candle-messuring size contest... Not applicable for a Family like La Familia Madrigal that supposedly learned from their mistakes.
So why would they not have a God complex? They all have powers that we typically attribute to God's or demigods. The whole town exists because of their powers and what they can do, not the other way around...
The family photo thing is double sin worthy imo because Mirabel's father and uncle don't have gifts either but they were still allowed to be in the photo. At that point it's not about Mirabel being gift-less anymore. It's just the universe shitting on Mirabel specifically to garner audience sympathy for her.
MIRABEL IS THE ONE THAT DON'T WANTED TO JOIN FOR GOD SAKE,thats why her dad and tio are it,they were not excluing her, they just don't notice that she wanst here.
I think she felt unwelcome, and her hard tries to feel god about it dissapeared because she was openly or subtly taken out of the picture only because the fear that the history repeated with Antonio. She was told by Abuela to stay away from the help duties, every single time since the ceremony was announced. That makes you feel an outsider, you know.
@@gabrieladapazlima7947I don’t really get why you’re so aggressively putting it all on Mirabel. Pretty much the whole time before this scene, the writers show Mirabel trying to be involved but getting rebuffed in ways that range from innocently insensitive to downright contemptuous. Even if the execution of this one scene is clunky (and I don’t think it actually is - a person can only get brushed off so many times before they stop trying), the overall depiction of “Mirabel tries to be involved; family rebuffs her and in many cases looks down on her” is solid.
@@gabrieladapazlima7947 but nobody spoke up about her not being there or even acknoledged her, so clearly they either didn't want her there or care enought to notice
Everyone: We don’t talk about Bruno. Also everyone: *But no one said we couldn’t sing about Bruno* Nitpicking the nitpicking of the nitpickers....nitpickception. Antonio is not Mirabel's nephew, they are cousins! And Julieta (which the J is pronounced as an H in the Spanish language, so you say it as HULIETA) is Mirabel's mom, Pepa is the one who controls the weather.
My biggest issue with the movie is that Mirabel apologized to Isabela when Isabela was the one who had bullied Mirabel her whole life practically. Isabela needed to apologize but Mirabel was the one to do so despite doing nothing wrong.
Well she did say she "owes this all to you" while hugging Mirabel. It's not exactly an apology but shows gratitude. What really bothered me is that people didn't apologize to Bruno! Travesty.
Classic representation of the effects of abuse: A victim apologizing for their abuser’s behavior. I’ve been there before, it’s truly saddening to see and to experience.
As someone who grew up emotionally abused, I can tell you that the best way to avoid further and worse conflict is to just apologize. Sometimes I don't know what I'm apologizing for, or why I'm not the one getting an apology, but its the way of least resistance, causes the least trouble.
Bruno's door is dark because he actively decided his gift wasn't needed and therefor he didn't need a door. As for the house not able to help in Bruno's room is simple as Bruno is keeping his room actively dormant the house can not enter. Only when Bruno accepted his gift and started using it again did his room activate again.
lol so how did this dude get food? did he have a kitchen and a bathro in his room? also ik its common with eastern countries but id die if I lived with that many family members
I'll still never forgive them for forgetting Mirabel to get into the family portrait. Even her freaking parents forgot about her! I mean whenever there's special ocassions like the whole family gathering for christmas, my mother would always look for me whenever there's a photo op despite having so many family members
And throwing salt behind him! And someone also pointed out that he tries to "sweep" Mirabel out of his hidden room, which is also a superstition thing, I guess.
i don't think Bruno's "ritual" is a superstition like the salt-throwing and wood-knocking, i'm pretty sure a director or something said that the ritual acted as a sort of crutch, since Bruno's Gift actually kind of hurts him a bit, and i like to think that the sand circle was meant for other people to see the vision and to create the emerald tablet with the vision on it
Can we talk about the fact that Mirabel never gets her own door/bedroom!? Like I understand and like why they didn’t give her a magical gift at the end but she’s been sleeping in the nursery her entire life and they literally just rebuilt the house! I feel like it would’ve been even better and more meaningful if the family had built and decorated her own room specific to her and her interests and gifts, showing her that she doesn’t have to be magical to be a valued member of the family and deserving of her own room!
I got the sense that it was implied that Mirabel would take over as head of the family when Abuela passes. And would then get her room..... Which doesn't really make it less sad or morbid.....😬
I think that’s why Mirabel got the doorknob to the front door-to symbolize that she is the heart of the whole family, and that she WAS the miracle that saved them, the same way Casita embodies the miracle of the candle. She doesn’t get a room, she gets the whole HOUSE.
17:15-18:05 According to Encanto Bruno’s name was mentioned 50 times throughout the movie. Well guess what, in the movie Bruno is actually 50 years old! Coincidence?
14:33 I think Bruno couldn't do his gift outside because of the wind. I actually remember reading that visions are very physically and mentally taxing on Bruno, so he burned leaves and poured sand in specific patterns to mentally prepare himself. In original storyboards, he was supposed to become unconscious after the vision in Antonio's room, and the two would have to carry him to his room. . . I wish they had kept that >:7
The only explanation I can think of for Dolores keeping Bruno living in the walls a secret but not keeping Mirabel finding the vision a secret is that she is in love with Mariano, and saw it as a way to ruin the proposal. I also still can't figure out why Antonio's animals had any reason to take the vision pieces and put them together.
That AND she hasn't kept Bruno's presence a secret. She talks about Bruno in present tense in the song, she mentions the rats talking in the walls (she doesn't speak to animals). And while these are hints - Bruno has been hiding for 10 years. She probably was very direct about it at the beginning and was dismissed as a cute kid with a hyperactive imagination.
Rather it would be: Why did Agustín bring the pieces to the table? Wouldn't it be better if he had left the pieces in Mirabel's room and returned after dinner?
It's been drilled into her head since childhood that she shouldn't talk about Bruno. Even when she does hint at it to Mirabel, she's whispering so her parents don't hear. The vision shows that the casita and the miracle are in immediate danger. The idea of her family losing the gifts that they based their entire identities on is bound to be really stressful. Plus, it's possible she didn't think Mirabel could handle the situation and would rather let Abuela take care of it
In that scene she doesn't seem to be making a tactical maneuver to ruin the proposal. She looks at Mirabel looking terrified, not at the bachelor’s mother or anything. It looks to me that she's just spilling the beans about the prophecy as a way of relieving stress about their impending doom.
I love how there was no big twist villain in this movie, with Abeula being the closest thing to an antagonist. But even then, she's still sympathetic, as she's only doing what she thinks is best for her family.
Yeah why can’t we just have a “the magic is dying” threat and call it a day? It’s been 55 years, Disney. I think you’ve used up all of your best baddies already lol
As Pyro mentioned, Dolores is the hidden villain. She knew Bruno was still living in the house’s walls, but kept it secret because she loathed him for his vision of her future. She was the one who started the bulk of the panic. And even on the door at the end when everyone’s image is on the door and powers are returned, her depiction appears distraught despite getting the man she wanted, and why? Because she is stuck with her power again, and can hear everything.
The question of "how do they find out what their powers are and how they work" is easy to answer. Their rooms. As we are able to see in Antonio's and Isabella's rooms, they are specifically designed for their power. They can be practised and displayed in there. Antonio's got a jungle to accomodate for the animals, Isabella has a garden and pillars, which give plenty of space for flowers to reside permanently at her demand. If I had to guess, Luisa's room would look similar to a gym, Camillo's probably has plenty of mirrors to see himself while transforming and Jullietta's room most likely has a large section dedicated to cooking all sorts of meals. We don't see the entirety of Bruno's room, but there clearly are instructions of his ability on the wall. If I had to guess, the room in which he performed his power started off with the leafes all in place, so he could immedeatly try it out.
As far as hinting for powers, a gym and a mirror room would make a lot of sense for Camilo and Luisa, but practically it'd be really lame for them. Especially Luisa, she spends all her time lifting stuff, and likely doesn't have to work out to stay buff, so what good is a gym for her?
@@PanSpaceman What good is a garden for Isabella, when she can just go outside? What good is a jungle for Antonio, if the animals already had lived around the encanto? I think the use of the rooms are to show the power, let them practise if needed and besides that all, simply being their place of privacy.
@@bdaarmy9736The “hm” sound is apparently a sound Colombians make when they’re spilling the tea. AFAIK it doesn’t reflect their personality per se; it’s just a linguistic feature.
@@kiwimusume Another comment says it does imply she likes to gossip. And she does it even when she's not "spilling the tea". Like when she just discovered a secret she does it. Which one is it?????
@@bdaarmy9736 I assumed that she liked to gossip but was smart about what to spill and what to keep hidden, for example: she gossips about the vision to prevent the proposal but is only subtle about Bruno still being around because Abuela would probably shoot the messenger, but idk that's just what I thought
What I love about this movie is that it shows what it's like to live in a toxic family, and the psychological effects it has on people. It also shows things from the Blacksheep's perspective; where you constantly feel like you'll never be good enough. Disney has really been showing Family Trauma through this movie and Red, I actually look forward to see what other movies they will bring out about this topic a lot of families are Hush Hush on.
@@graciecat7389 oh yes! That one has things about manipulation, gaslighting, overbearing mother, etc. I still can't believe a Disney movie has an infant getting kidnapped in the first 5 minutes of it xD
3:10 That's what I loved about Isabella as a character, her abilities are making plants but the first thing she created were probably amazing looking flowers and everyone just asumed her abilities were being perfect and that put a lot of weight on her
One of my greatest annoyances of this movie was Mirabel not getting a room, I still wonder if they kept her in the nursery after rebuilding simply because it feels like they would. 11:57 Completely agree with this one, he didn't make things happen, they'd happen whether he told them or not, too bad everyone crucifies Bruno instead of, I dunno preparing to mourn a loss or start scheduling when an event can be done again or something. 16:33 Movie doesn't know how to spill the beans. One of the neat things about the songs, they're all madrigals.
The worst part about Bruno's visions is that every example in the song isn't even a vision. I mean going bald, your fish dying, getting fat, those are all things that a normal person could predict by just looking at the fish or by noticing a receding hairline. It would've made more sense if the examples were of things that only Bruno could've seen. Like maybe the fish lady instead of her fish dying, got told that she would be gravely ill very soon, so she became super clean, which ironically caused her to suffer more from the sickness because her immune system was weakened. Maybe the fat guy instead got told that his once successful store would go out of business in the near future, which caused him to be harder on his workers and resulted in his store closing due to lack of staff. Maybe the bald guy instead got told that his dog would run away in the near future, resulting in him being overly stressed and leaving his front door open one night so his dog ran away. Idk, I just think it'd make more sense if Bruno telling them their futures inadvertently made them come true, so them blaming Bruno for all these bad things would make more sense since from their pov they're taking precautions so said vision shouldn't happen. Alternatively, them blaming Bruno for the visions could just be an example of just how helpless they are without the Madrigal's. Like they're so helpless and dumb that they can't even see the bigger picture and realize that Bruno isn't causing the visions to happen.
The main reason people would blame Bruno is due to human nature. Humans remember the bad better than the good. So he would need to have visons about more good things than bad to even that out. But he has no control over the visions.
I have a theory that Casita can’t be sentient in any of the magic rooms, not just Bruno’s. This could explain why Mirabel has such a connection with the house because it’s always been with her, while the others have rooms away from the sentient house.
Also I’ve heard people say that Dolores means pain in Spanish, and if that’s the case Abuela’s whole thing about gifts just as special as you is a lot more sinister in Dolores’ case. I think everyone can agree that with official confirmation that she can’t turn off or have subjective hearing with her powers, super hearing is the worst gift by far.
She was genuinely relieved when the magic failed; for once in her life, noises didn't hurt her. She couldn't hear every horrible whispered thing everybody says, or coupled clear across town getting it on. Honestly, I wonder how the heck Dolores is as sane as she is.
14:30 Soooooo apparently those rituals Bruno does arent part of his gift. They're luck rituals he uses to make sure his visions dont go bad. Probably a side effect of his trauma of being constantly blamed for things out of his control.
6:27 The candles seen lining the streets are actually a tradition that happens every December in Colombia, it’s called Dia De Las Velitas. People lights candles and sparklers and there are actually that many candles on the street 😂
Emotional abuse is actually WORSE than physical abuse. This is the first movie from a major studio (I know of that accurately depicts this. Disney did a great job. I'd never would've thought this was ever going to happen.
@@ibrahim_bia You’re right. Like you replied, emotional abuse is ultimately what causes the trauma. Though it’s true the human brain processes all pain the same, it’s imperative to understand that emotional pain hits differently. A lot of people cut their wrist due to *_emotional_* pain. They’re choosing to use a blade to make themselves bruise and bleed to distract themselves from the randomly appearing memories emotional abuse brings. Those embarrassing memories that keep you up at night happens throughout the day with 100 times the intensity. Verbal abuse is known to cause PTSD. The same one that war veterans experience. Physical abuse follows the rule out of sight out of mind. Especially since physical maltreatment doesn’t occur much in real life situations.
@@Encorous I’m a DA survivor. Emotional abuse is so much worse than physical abuse. It is known to cause victims to develop PTSD. The same type as war veterans. Psychologists make generalizations all the time. It’s part of their work. That’s what group studies are for. I will gladly die on the hill that states being shunned is worse than being beaten. The woman who’s supposed to be loving her unconditionally is now seeing her as a nuisance, that’s got to be torture. Love from family shouldn’t have to be earned. It’s painful. Besides, if getting beaten was worse (which, according to science, is not), why do so many emotional maltreatment victims drag a razor along the underside of their wrists? It’s because it’s a distraction from what’s going on inside their head. Whenever those thoughts become unbearable, they do it again. Please. Don’t you ever insult emotional abuse victims again, okay?
You know they have a point about Isabella. Everyone kinda pointlessly loves her. I mean her “flower power” is basically useless. I liked her character but she’s still pretty much useless. EDIT: No growing crops and controling plants doesn’t count as she doesn’t figure out how to do that until late in the movie. Before that all she can control is basically flowers, which, unless people have serious allergies or are florists, is useless in both combat and convenience.
They just love her because it represents "femininity" and flowers are perfect so they boxed Isabella's powers. In her song she discover that she can control nature instead of just flowers.
Controlling and making plants is pretty useful, would make her great for producing crops. Hell, Isabella could grow exotic, hard to find plants for medicine. But yeah, sure Disney, girls with plant powers can only make flowers.
Missed sin: how did Mirabel get back out of Bruno's room - there's no way she could have swung back over the broken bridge, the rope she initially used would have been on the other side of the gap.
The biggest sin is that Mirabel didn’t think to help Luisa with getting the donkeys back in the pin by asking Antonio for help, since he could talk to animals.
He can talk to animals he can't control them! Those lazy asses would probably tell him that this is Luisa's job anyway. What they need is an authority figure to tell this man to stop losing his donkeys!
That sounds like something Abuela would have said to make his gift be considered useful, which clearly did not come to her mind just yet. Mirabel would probably want him to have fun with it.
The storm clouds and horrible subsequent weather was obviously linked to Pepa being nervous about the wedding, like any bride would. Bruno mentioning that it looks like rain may not have even been a vision and just an observation, so Pepa saw that moment to mentally snap and cause a hurricane.
13:45 the problem is that bruno isnt just magically told how his powers work, and nobody else is either, and hes been gaslit so hard he genuinely believes the reason their happening is him, hes hiding because he thinks if his vision is going to destroy the encanto, then him not staying around will prevent it, the part in "we dont talk about bruno" is also because everyone believes that HE has caused these to happen, and sees him in a negative light when bad things are told also 1 sin for not removing a sin for the "hes here" line in the end of we dont talk about bruno, despite the fact it is banger foreshadowing as they literally say bruno is here.
I think it was him thinking to himself "I don't want those prophecies anymore, they ruin us". I don't believe he thought that he was causing the incidents, I believe he was just fed up with the everyones reactions. He stated himself that the people take the visions out of context and then blame him. Even Dolores mentions in the song that the people just don't "understand" the visions. I wonder if Bruno would talk to Dolores through the walls, knowing she would hear him
@@mii_kay4514 My assumption from that was the reason he went into hiding was because he was protecting Mirabel. He said the vision was unclear and could go either way and he knew if he told people they would believe it would go the bad way and blame Mirabel.
I like how the "he's here" and "Its like I can hear him now" lines both can refer to Mariano and Bruno. He's here is referring to when Mariano actually arrives but is also referring to how Bruno is still actually there. And Dolores can hear both Mariano and Bruno
@@luckiesttstarr I don't think it applies to Mariano because obviously she can hear him now because 1. He lives in the town, and 2. Aubela announces him and that he's coming. So it's not like she can hear him now, she can 100% hear him now and it's not a surprise to anyone.
Ok so the magic end for a bit they rebuild the house and it comes back. Did they make maribel an actual room? Did she just get a regular room while the rest were enchanted
Coming in from the um actually game, Um actually it’s Pepa who controls the weather. Julieta heals people with her cooking. Also Mirabel was happy for Antonio. It was Abuela saying that “his gift was as special as he was,” which reminded her of when Abuela said that to her then she didn’t get a gift implying that she’s not special at all.
Tbh, I think it was Abuelo Pedro's death that created the miracle, that led Mirabel to the right answers, etc. He's watching over them from beyond. He is Casita too. That revelation kinda makes everything less creepy too.
She also confirms during "All Of You" that she could hear him every day. The question is whether she knew but still didn't do anything about it (meaning: even Bruno didn't really realize she knew) or if she was the one bringing Bruno food, if nothing else (maybe leaving them by the picture, even if she'd never went inside the walls). I hope she was at least somewhat taking care of him and not just ignoring him this whole time, but who knows with this family.
6:14 - The house didn't had any other rooms left. Remember, is not casita that creates the rooms, it's the candle. 7:28 - Mirabel is actually happy about Antonio, she gets sad when she remembers how Abuela used to treat her before her ceremony. 10:42 - Bruno's door is not shining because he technically left the family. Also he states in the movie that after Mirabel's prophecy, he stopped using his powers, why would his door shine if he is not using it after all those years? 12:18 - That's some sort of a latino understanding. Here it's common to hear the gossip if someone knows something. We all know someone who tells everything it hears, and if Dolores told the kid's gang about Mirabel not having a gift, and to Mirabel about the rats through the walls and Luisa's twitching eye, the movie already stated that she tells everything. 13:07 - Julietta is Mirabel's mom (Her name is actually 'Julieta' (Who-ly-e-ta)). Pepa is the one whose emotions control the weather, not her. 13:52 - No. He decides to hide because he already knew what was gonna happen; not only the town blaming him for everything, but he would also get blame for 'taking' away Mirabel's gift. And if he told Abuela about Mirabel destiny, Alma could have assume that she was gonna destroy her home, which would lead to a worse fate for Mirabel. 14:23 - He actually can. He just doesn't want to be seen. 14:30 - He is very superstitious. He probably only needs sand and a open space for the sand to flow around.
One thing I noticed that the pictures for every gift ceremony ever conducted, Abuela's pose never changes except for Isabella. For the others, she hand both hands on the candle but for Isabella, only one held the candle, not sure but it seems like Abuela had a hand on Isabella at that time.
First grandkid happiness. Grandparents are always partial to their first grandchild. Like Isabela, I basked in their affection yet thankfully they didn't pressure me like Abuela did to Isabela.
The movie deserves a mini series or sequel going into depth how the families learns to heal the harms caused by their generational trauma and unintentional current trauma. It'd be interesting to have this set during the house rebuilding, which had to take at least a few months if not a year. Or if they do that, maybe after the house is rebuilt and they're learning to not slip back into old ways. Unlearn walking on eggshells around Alma? Alma learning to let things be. Learning to appreciate Mirabel more. How the villagers learn to be more self-sufficient rather than relying on the Madrigal family for everything. What happens with the cracks in the mountain range? What about learning other hobbies they have that mean they're not defined by their gift? How will they interact with the modern world?
This is just a rumor I didn't see the tweet myself but I did hear they are working on trying for either a second movie and if they can't do that then a series. There might be a time skip for the second movie where we start to see Mirabel learn to take on being the house head responsibilities and such
For the horror version, what if every member’s death is linked to their gift Pepa: Natural disaster Julietta: Food poisoning Dolores: Something came up from behind and she couldn’t hear it Camilo: Someone racist killed him Antonio: Mauled by an animal Isabella: Poisonous plants Luisa: Crushed by something
13:46 Bruno left because he wanted to protect Mirabel by not telling his family the truth about his vision knowing Mirabel would most likely be distanced from her family even more than she is now. And I wouldn't be surprised if Mirabel became the villain/antagonist of the movie. We were first led to believe it would've been Bruno but it turns out he is just a sweet yet strange guy.
This is exactly what I said! Also, I wish there was a Cin removal for Bruno defending Mirabel again at the river. Best uncle ever! The man goes 10 years without seeing his mom, because he's afraid of being judged, and his niece being treated badly by her, and then the first thing he says to her after a decade is defending his needs even more, and taking the blame for a whole damn house collapsing and the whole family losing their gifts! Must hug!
I get not telling them, destroy the vision, sure, but how does him leaving help in any way? Why not keep visiting that vision privately like out in the jungle and try to at least figure out how it plays out? Or just stay and be a comforting presence to Mirabel?

Yes, Delores knew Bruno was in the house. She says so in We Don’t Talk about Bruno “I can always hear him sort of muttering and mumbling” then she literally says he’s there later in the song. And you can see Bruno on the second floor dancing between Delores and Mirabel during their part.

@@princessofhell4639 why did Dolores never say anything about Bruno? why does Abuela treat Mirabel so bad if she has no gift herself? they never really explained why Mirabel never got a gift.
Mirabel’s gift is that she is the embodiment of the houses magic. Its why its so in sync with her. Her Abuela is the candle protector/house magic protector. I believe Abuelo was the original Magic Holder and when he passed he used his magic to protect his family and have the magic encapsulated in a protective sentient home. When Mirabel’s faith in her family gets rattled, then crushed and then the “magic” inside her is extinguished…. This is represented by the house crumbling and the candle going out. Mirabel HAS a door. Its the MAIN door of the house. She is on the door leading the family/family magic. In her song she said: I would move the mountains Make new trees and flowers grow… I would heal what's broken Show this family something new… She actually accomplished all of these THROUGH her families magic. With her support, belief in them and love their powers grew. “I would move the mountains” she does this when the magic breaks and cracks the mountains. “Make new trees and flowers grow” she does this by encouraging her sister to let herself go, not worry about pretty/perfect and to be true to herself. “I would heal whats broken” she does this by healing her broken family by bringing back Bruno. “Show this family something new” she legit gets the family to open up, speak about issues and evolve into a healthier family. These are just my theories. If you have gotten this far this is my theory on why Abuelo was able to protect the family. In many Latino cultures there are 2 things commonplace… religion and spirituality. Religion mainly being Christian. And Spirituality bring in the form of witchcraft, spells and incantations. Because this is a Disney movie they did not want to offend a huge group of Christians by hinting that the Abuelo might have been a witch himself. It would explain why he was able to sacrifice himself, disappearing in gold dust, making the enemies disappear, build the mountains and enchant the home. This was all done by his selfless sacrifice to save not only his family but his community as well. His magic became embodied in the candle and Abuela was meant to protect it. So… Abuelo was the original Magical Holder in the family. Someone has to carry that on… who better than Maribel? No her powers are not IN YOUR FACE like everyone elses. But thats how many of us are… our true powers come from within and shine brightest by loving and helping others. The End 💃🏽💕

10:52 It's not that Casita can't get in Bruno's room because everyone shunned him. We saw Isabela's room, Antonio's room, and there weren't any moving tiles or furniture. Casita simply cannot control anything in the rooms. Mirabel probably didn't know this since she never got a room. Yes, she could have entered her family's rooms before. But seeing how awesome Antonio's room was, how everyone was only paying attention to it's beauty, it's believable that the other Madrigals with gifts got the same reaction from the villagers, and Mirabel, when they first opened the door to their rooms. So Mirabel might not have noticed. The only reason she did notice in Bruno's room could have been because she was scared and wanted some company.

The producer mentioned on twitter that Bruno using the sand and all the extra bells and whistles was not just to physically show the vision, but to help him focus more on the finer details of it.👍
He also mentions that Bruno gets these visions almost constantly, hence his exhausted insomniatic disposition.
The room was explained too. It wasn't that big before. The amount of stairs is symbolic to the distance between himself and his family.
Wait, really? Where can I see the stuff about Bruno's visions, I didn't know this! :O
He just like me for real
@Shadow Swirl He could have learned how to better focus his visions though his visions!
@Shadow Swirl Bruno doesn't see only bad things. For example, he sees Isabella and Mirabel reconciling.

I also wanted the other family members to apologize for not standing up for Mirabel more to Abuela (especially her own parents). Mirabel was the scapegoat child clearly, it makes sense why she felt drawn to Bruno, he was a scapegoat child as well.

It's not even believe, she IS the antagonist; she's just not a villain.
I would like to acknowledge the fact that they never looked for Bruno after he left. I mean Dolores had super hearing, Luisa could easily help them scale over walls, and Mirabel's mom could easily heal injuries. For a movie about family, they sure are quick to abandon one.
Ouch!
Wow, craaaazy. Not like that was the whole point of the movie or anything

Actually, the casita cannot enter any of the “gift rooms”.
The only room we know Casita can't enter is Bruno's. The others aren't addressed in movie
Mirabel definitely had a gift, even if the others couldn't see it, and she didn't have a schmancy room...

My biggest issue with the movie is that Mirabel apologized to Isabela when Isabela was the one who had bullied Mirabel her whole life practically. Isabela needed to apologize but Mirabel was the one to do so despite doing nothing wrong.
same
Well she did say she "owes this all to you" while hugging Mirabel. It's not exactly an apology but shows gratitude. What really bothered me is that people didn't apologize to Bruno! Travesty.
Your profile pic is what Mirabel should of do
Classic representation of the effects of abuse: A victim apologizing for their abuser’s behavior.

Mirabel is the one that wanting to join this photo
14:33 The sand thing is a superstition thing. Its why you also see him avoiding cracks and knocking on wood.
And throwing salt behind him! And someone also pointed out that he tries to "sweep" Mirabel out of his hidden room, which is also a superstition thing, I guess.
Also, if you look closely when Mirabel is in his room. The directions are engraved into the walls!
Along with the salt and sugar thing
i don't think Bruno's "ritual" is a superstition like the salt-throwing and wood-knocking, i'm pretty sure a director or something said that the ritual acted as a sort of crutch, since Bruno's Gift actually kind of hurts him a bit, and i like to think that the sand circle was meant for other people to see the vision and to create the emerald tablet with the vision on it
Is it really a superstition if you can ACTUALLY see the future. It’s likely based on superstitions, but somehow has a real effect in that universe.
Maybe when the house was rebuilt her family gave her, her own room.
That’s just kind of how it is in Hispanic families
in a deleted epilogue animatic they do
I got the sense that it was implied that Mirabel would take over as head of the family when Abuela passes.
"I THINK NOT"
Oh yeaaaah.. he's pretty spry for a guy in his 50's. Of course that's due to the animators making his movements so toony.
Bruno is 50?!
How tf I thought he was like in his thirties how tf is he 50
I think NOT!
That is a freaking awesome discovery
14:33
I think Bruno couldn't do his gift outside because of the wind. I actually remember reading that visions are very physically and mentally taxing on Bruno, so he burned leaves and poured sand in specific patterns to mentally prepare himself. In original storyboards, he was supposed to become unconscious after the vision in Antonio's room, and the two would have to carry him to his room. . . I wish they had kept that >:7
Also because he might have been seen.
@@graciecat7389 but everyone already knew he could do it
I'm saying that because he wanted to stay hidden, not because I thought he was trying to hide his powers.
@@graciecat7389 I don't really think Abuela cared what he wanted. If she wanted him to do it in public, he would have to.
I mean because everyone thought he was gone and so he didn't want to risk people finding out he was still around by going outside.
Yeah what was up with those rats?
Same. Sometimes, no villains is better
Dolores was the hidden villain
Yeah why can’t we just have a “the magic is dying” threat and call it a day? It’s been 55 years, Disney. I think you’ve used up all of your best baddies already lol
I enjoy when mental health is also a major antagonist in film :)

Bruno’s visions come true no matter what they cannot avoid them even if they tried
I honestly think they gave her a new room just because they would have to build a new nursery (And there would be no one there to really use it)
The main reason people would blame Bruno is due to human nature.
Humans remember the bad better than the good.
So he would need to have visons about more good things than bad to even that out.
But he has no control over the visions.
Yeah this movie has a lot of flaws when it comes to the plot.
I have a theory that Casita can’t be sentient in any of the magic rooms, not just Bruno’s. This could explain why Mirabel has such a connection with the house because it’s always been with her, while the others have rooms away from the sentient house.
My theory is that since Bruno didn’t use his power in 10 years, casita couldn’t work in his room because there was no magic there.
People lights candles and sparklers and there are actually that many candles on the street 😂

hey, that's pretty harsh of a statement. Both physical abuse and emotional abuse can be equally harmful, and often go hand in hand

The storm clouds and horrible subsequent weather was obviously linked to Pepa being nervous about the wedding, like any bride would. Bruno mentioning that it looks like rain may not have even been a vision and just an observation, so Pepa saw that moment to mentally snap and cause a hurricane.

also 1 sin for not removing a sin for the "hes here" line in the end of we dont talk about bruno, despite the fact it is banger foreshadowing as they literally say bruno is here.
I think it was him thinking to himself "I don't want those prophecies anymore, they ruin us". I don't believe he thought that he was causing the incidents, I believe he was just fed up with the everyones reactions.
That revelation kinda makes everything less creepy too.
and mirabel had the strongest connection with Casita
For Dolores knowing about Bruno, during “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” she is the only one who talks about Bruno in the present tense.
and camilo, right?

5:23 is the correct timestamp for the full sin
And I also disagree
@@Raya-ir4tm not reaIIy.
she is shown to be soft throughout the first haIf, she wouId even Iook out for MirabeI in particuIar before her song
As for her fIaw, it's that despite her strength and the good that comes with it, she tends to be way too hard on herseIf and consider her power as the onIy good thing about her; that's very much reIevant given the entire famiIy hoIds their standard to unreasonabIe heights to the point that their gifts become their obIigation and detriment and it's the onIy thing the town sees in them and nothing eIse. It's Iike someone onIy being seen for something Iike being abIe to sing, so add the pressure of staying in the sight of others and you begin to Iose your own taIent due to growing burnout
The song was meant for Luisa to both try and reassure herseIf that she is the Strong One and that she's reIiabIe for the encanto whiIe aIso worrying that her gift in of itseIf (or just her) is putting too much pressure on herseIf especiaIIy after being very nervous regarding the cracks and the state of what couId happen if she did Iose her gift (which she did and broke down because of it)
TL;DR: Luisa isn't secretIy soft, her fIaw is that she pushes herseIf too far for everyone eIse and seeing no other worth in herseIf, which segues to the song and her arc being reIevant as it becomes a piece of what reaIIy is going on with the famiIy
7:38 she got upset at abuela said Antonio's gift was as special as him, she was clearly happy that he got his gift.
15:02 Dolores mentioned that she can hear him in the walls when singing the Bruno song. Also at the end, when he reveals himself, she says she heard him the whole time
I think Bruno is displaying symptoms of OCD, I don't think his gift requires the ritual but he mentally does. The open space is kinda self evident with the swirling and such but the ritual helps him and his brain
Ocd, anxiety, and attachment damage with an avoidance
Georgia Dow talks about that in her video on Bruno actually. th-cam.com/video/K5y19U1LvqU/w-d-xo.html
No, he doesn't. The ritual is related to superstition around fortune telling. It's superstition not ticks.
@@kattie2185 it's not just in the burning of leaves its also in throwing spices over his shoulder, knocking on wood, or hopping over cracks. This combined with the fact that other members of the family suggests that he doesn't actually need to do any rituals but is choosing to, probably because he wants to ward off bad futures since people seem to hate him for them.
@@isapheonix legit, it was everything but the ritual that imply the OCD and anxiety. All of the tapping , the salt thrown over the shoulder and so many other things. Poor dude just wants to be lucky. And people with OCD and anxiety are well known to use rituals to help with their mental state.
Yes, Delores knew Bruno was in the house. She says so in We Don’t Talk about Bruno “I can always hear him sort of muttering and mumbling” then she literally says he’s there later in the song. And you can see Bruno on the second floor dancing between Delores and Mirabel during their part.

Having grown up autistic in an abusive family, this movie was incredibly meaningful to me and helped me work through a lot of trauma. I was worried when I clicked on this video that you would make light of these themes for the sake of some jokes, which would have been easy and probably hilarious to everyone without my experiences. Thank you very much for not doing that.
honestly I love this movie, I really do, but I'm glad CS addressed the many plot holes that it had, and the fact that the ending felt very rushed. even if your family house is destroyed you can't fix years of trauma and mental abuse in a conversation.
yes and no. i mean things on road to being fixed just listen to parts of final song. abuela has remind herself nothing no one is perfect but that is ok. Mirabel's forgiveness of her grandmother got her to face her trauma and realize she had way too many expectations on the family. it will def take alma quite some time to be fully healed but it was a start. Abuela knows she just needs be more laid back. the family can love each other now and still the community and now be community helps the madrigal's and they them just less of like full time job commitment. a person's emotional well being is important. i hear there is supposed in making a series show for disney+ maybe it will touch upon this "healing" that the real miracle grandma healing from trauma and the family getting to be more human imperfect but still have magic. i mean i think should be part of premise and hope we really do get a series. musical of course.
Also the fact that no one bothered to apologize to Bruno still makes me furious.
@@sarabrenna5525 yeah apology would been nice. but i mean Pepa goes running over and nearly knocks down Bruno with that bear hug. you can see his sisters missed him. i mean the apology should have been abuela apologizing to her son. ok we nee d a short film with bruno getting fam love and apologies what not call it something like we like talking about Bruno. that be nice
What plot holes are you reffering to??
In her song she said:
I would move the mountains
Make new trees and flowers grow…
I would heal what's broken
Show this family something new…
She actually accomplished all of these THROUGH her families magic.
The End
💃🏽💕
What happens when she dies tho. Would they all lose their powers
@@merfythegirl6950 No I think it would be passed on. Like her Abuelo passed it onto her. Thanks for taking the time to read my rambling! I didn’t expect anyone to take the time to read it.
I'd say if Abulea dies, one of the older Adults would take the role. Or Mirabel herself.
@@Alisibeth_Talia212 I think id be cool if one of the Fathers who married into the family became the Guardian of the Candle. Maribels dad would be a perfect fit.
I thought her power was to make things disapear
13:06 three sins for CinemaSins here. 1) Pepa is the one whose emotions control the weather, not Julieta. 2) Mirabel's mom's name is pronounced "hoo-lieta", not joo-lieta, and 3) her name, when written down, is Julieta, with one T, not Julietta.
And one more for him pronouncing Madrigals wrong the whole time lol
Thank you! I was looking for this comment lol
four actually, he referred to Antonio as Mirabels nephew than youngest cousin
@@theresivy cinemasins rly didn't pay close enough attention to this movie huh?
Everyone else: This movie is great for showing empathy, and showing that sometimes there aren't villains and just overcorrecting, overprotection, and anxiety, etc.
CinemaSins guy: Everyone's an asshole!
Love this channel.
And I'm completely with Jeremy. I don't have Disney+ so I figure I'll probably never see this, and having watched his review of it, I don't WANT to see it.
@@LauraFromMarkerQuest You're missing out. It's a really good movie that explores how badly generational trauma can harm a family.
@@LauraFromMarkerQuest Never ever decide to not watch a movie because of CinemaSins.
