I bought a 2002 MDX a long time ago. That was the best car I ever owned. I absolutely loved that car. I got rid of it in 2016. Time to get another one.
If you notice all the other automakers that give all those extra features tend to have problems with them as a car gets older. That's why Honda / Acura are reliable used cars

As a 14 model owner I am glad that it came with the 6 speed tranny. The 9 speed is slow to respond when you push the accelerator hard (I drove the V6 TLX) and switching gears from 2nd to 3rd is rough and almost neck hurting. Great review and spot on as always.
Relatively new to Redline. But as a resident of the DC Metro area it is nice to see how vehicles behave in my back yard. Thank you Redline keep it coming.
I like how they displayed the MDX doing some offroading but let's face it, it's just gonna be used as mall crawler or to take the kids to soccer practice.
I love the SH-AWD but I agree that Audis Quattro is a better system for dry and snowy conditions. Same as Subarus however Subaru's system acts even more like a true 4x4 because the transfer case is literally in the transmission box for quicker and more responsive torquing for each wheel. Acura's would be just as good if they made their system rear wheel drive based like the Audi Q7

Sad that Acura only makes kinda "budget luxury" cars, except for RLX. They could really make a more luxury MDX with a better interior design, other engine options, maybe more modern outside looks

Always good reviews!.....I was just thinking that every review should include the information about the recommended fuel octane rating. This vehicle gets pretty good gas mileage, but that is shattered by having to buy the 93 octane fuel......The cost of 93 octane fuel is much higher, especially when gasoline prices are higher! (prices are expected to increase in the near future) I guess of course, if you can afford to buy the MDX, the insurance, and pay for Acura maintenance, you can certainly afford higher priced gas!

Totally agree with you that Acura needs an upgrade engine for this model. Maybe in a couple years they can scrape something off the new NSX model's engine technology for a twin turbo V6 or super charged V8 (Most likely a twin turbo V6 though for an Acura though lol).
That's a great sounding engine. I don't think this needs an upgrade engine. How fast does your 7 passenger SUV need to go? This gets to 60mph in 6 seconds, it really doesn't need to be faster.

The new Ford Explorer Platinum looks like it has more lux and more power for less (plus u can performance tune that twin turbo and still be at MDX price). The Acura definitely has better fuel economy and a I think a little better handling, maybe reliability, but I think I'd go for that extra power in the Ford. Can't wait to test drive and see for real this fall! Would love to see a review of the Ford here as soon as it's available!
You are right, the Acura could use an engine with more power, I would love to see an off road option, but on a completely different platform, an off road platform to compete with the Rubicon with race shocks and a long travel suspension, 35"x12.5"x17" tires, a skid plate running the length of the undercarriage... it will never happen
2nd gen gets 15/20 MPG so this new gen is still much better. I don't like the body style of the 3rd gen as much as I do the 2nd gen though. I wish I could put all that interior and safety technology in my 2nd gen MDX lol
Scott Watkins 2nd gen is a beast and has plenty power and also has wider wheels and tires for better handling it's really a downgrade besides tech to be honest
I feel the same way regarding the lack of a heated steering wheel in the TLX. EVERY car in this class offers this feature. Even cars like Kia Forte offer it. Yet this "luxury sedan" doesn't offer it even as an accessory. And now that everyone is starting to offer an around view monitor I can be sure the MDX won't see that feature for another 5-10 years.

As for the Acura brand, they used to be a couple years more advanced in technologies but recently they are a couple years behind most competitive brands in that department. What a shame... no panoramic moon roof, no fog light, and no led brake lights on top trim? What's up Acura?
I like the panoramic sunroof delete. Here in Southern California that item would be a daymare making the car way hotter inside while parked. I like this car as it is. I also really like the 2016 Pilot a very nice vehicle.

AFG647 everybody barbgains, you silly goose. You can buy something for 70$ or for 63$, can be a matter of an hour of bargaining. One can afford 70, but why pay 70 if they can be persuaded to give for 63 or 60. I am sure that without a financing buying at full price I could get it for 60 or even less. When I buy a new car, I always can bargain and get it like 5-10% below MSRP including taxes, tag transfer. All dealerships are willing to negotiate. They can make 15k for a car, or 5k for car, still profit for them.
if they had to choose between making the brake lights or the tail lights LED, why the hell would the go with the tail lights? It would make a lot more sense to have the brake lights LED, with their instant illumination.
I prefer having tail lights LED over LED brake lights. You're not going to be braking a whole lot so when driving at night, the tail lights look really nice lit up. It gives the vehicle a nicer appearance at night, and that's why other cars do the same
Pro: I do like the safety lane watch which is a good thing from Acura.Con: The advantage for safety lane could cause driver to focus more on texting on there phone instead of keeping an eye on the lane which could be dangerous. You will be hook!

The 9 Speed trasmission that is in this car got recalled in the Acura TLX. It is made in South Carolina by a company called ZF e.g. not Honda. The ground clearance on the MDX is a joke, and so is the AWD system. Can you activate the AWD with a button or is it all nanny controlled.? because it is cheap
ya ok buddy, first off when does the SHAWD shut off what speed? answer me that it is front wheel drive bias, anyway and it has a Honda Odyssey engine in it who cares, no ground clearance either. This is for mall moms and soccer dads not for any adventure or camping or anything outdoors this is a CRV basically

Can't go wrong with a Honda J-series VTEC V6, I mean what more could you want? 6 seconds is plenty quick for an SUV especially with a N/A V6

LED headlights have tons of foreground illumination which eliminates 90% of the need for fog lights.

How does the auto heated seats function work. I can’t figure out how to trigger mine to turn on/off when it’s on auto.

How is this compare to the 2016 Mazda CX-9 Signature model?

Ah so the ticking is normal. Always wondered why I heard that noise in all their MDX's.
This and the '16 Pilot (my next car/auto) need amber/yellow rear signals to make them more Japanese

nobody uses the sunroof, in all our cars I've opened the sunroof maybe 5 times. The R spec package is definitely a good idea though.
Its nice to have in the fall and spring. Just open the roof door and watch the nice day. It also helps to vent in the summer and keep the heat out
