I learned Reverse Riego from this video just a few weeks ago: I don't think I am ever going to be a Reverse Riego tatter, but I'm trying to learn and become a little more used to it, just in case. One notable instance where I actually prefer the Reverse Riego method is when finger tatting, as there is less fiddling around with the thread to form the stitches, but admittedly I rarely need to finger tat! Still, it's always good to have a different option for when you do need it! Thank you so much for the tutorial!
I first tried to figure out tatting from a Lily Design book, way before the Internet was around. I never was successful. I found diagrams for what I later learned was Reverse Riego method in the mid-'90s, and happily tatted that way for years. I only decided to learn Slip-n-Slide a few years ago. S&S is faster, but I've found beginners can get the "flip" accomplished more easily with RR. Another plus for RR is that if you're playing thread chicken, it takes a little bit less shuttle thread to accomplish those last few stitches! LOL
I'm also a slip'n'slide tatter, but I can see how it would be easier to flip the stitch using Reverse Riego. Handy for new tatters having difficulty mastering the flip.

I'm a slip n slider...😂 Boy that confused me right back up. I thought this was a technique i had to do for a certian method or job in tatting. Thank goodness its not. Love your videos thank you for sharing!😊
ty so much for doing this. Now I know what it is, I might give it a try to see if it is any better. Though with the new smaller shuttles I am managing slip and slide finally without any launched shuttles.
@@NooBearAus actually for my old too big shuttles it works. I did modify it a bit. I do the first half of the stitch slip and slide and the second with the reverse riego. I set up my hand slightly differently though and the loop is only around the middle 2 fingers of my left hand. That gives me more room to come up under the bottom thread to make the 2nd half (I shuffle my finders around to manage the flip). For the Big shuttles this works well. For the small shuttles I can slip and slide boths halves without problems now.

Absolutely! I'm not a fan of the reverse riego method, but it's another tool in the kit if I ever need it.

Have a look at loading loops - I have them on all of my shuttles.

I think it's easier to flip the stitch with RR, but I think the constant re positioning of the shuttle just makes everything harder - for me anyway!

Reverse Riego method looks awkward to me. I use slip and slide method.
Slip n slide is my preferred method too
