She is 100% correct. Without free speech we aren't free.

There is no such thing as free speech, it's an illusion, also we are not in the US.

Because America is the land where true facts and rational argument are the bedrock upon which sane civil discourse occurs, and lifts the people ever higher in wisdom, grace and equity.

The easy part is asserting that free speech used to extol terrorist sentiments and incite harm upon others is, at least in the UK, illegal; the difficult part seems to be convincing our police force to act upon this when it happens right in front of them.

I keep saying what my mother continually told me when Aussie kids chased me calling me a 'dirty pom' when we came to Australia 'sticks & stones will break your bones but words will never hurt you', speech control is fascism. Toughen up people, words cannot hurt you if you do not let them!

@@dwayne_dibley give a shit, both are systems of control, my you are pedantic. Communism, fascism, dictatorialism, socialism, authoritarianism all 'tarred with the same brush', all designed to remove individualism & implement control. Call it whatever you like.

EVERYONE deserves the right to free speech. If it's offensive to others then it should be challenged appropriately.

@IBTU no, they aren't. Offensive speech is still covered by free speech. If you're offended by words, then challenge them accordingly. Don't just cry "Hate speech" and expect others to capitulate to your demands.

The idea behind "offence is taken, not given" is that it puts the burden of proof that speech is harmful on those who would seek to restrict it ...

I don’t think foreigners should have the right to protest. You or your family come here, it’s a privilege. Don’t provoke the natives and be a public nuisance. Ban protests by foreigners and protests regarding other countries.

The problem is not the hate speech - it is the authorities unwillingness or lack of ability to enforce those laws. There is also like the police the CPS has elements within its estate who are proponents of those most likely to abuse their right to free speech.

Antisemitism is just another word for saying racism, Israel had to have their own word so that they are not classed with the other countries that have to put up with racism against their people

Anti Zionism is not racism. Also, learn to use a comma.

    • @mrmouse4121

the term predates the establishment of Israel as a nation. In 19th century, in Germany, they used 'Semite' to refer to Jews, and so, being against the Jews was refereed to as antisemitism. There was an actual political party calling themselves the antisemitic league.
about the Zionism thingy: You can criticism a country for its government without being racist towards the population. However, anti-zionism bleeds very easily into ant-semitism. And I mean, *very* easily.

Not only does the disestablishment of a nation, which in this case was recognized 75 years ago, is absurd; is it not the anti-Zionist/ pro-Palestinian assertion that displacing a population, even temporarily, to a completely different location is an act of ethnic cleansing tantamount to genocide?
This is the area in which the anti-Zionsim turns to antisemitism, by the way.
The Israeli population which consists of Jews, Muslims, Druzes and Beduins, etc. have the right to stay.
