I lost my sister on 8/16/2011, just nine days after this video was uploaded. As kids, she was the one who introduced Elton John's music into my life and I truly wish I were able to tell her about this phenomenal clip with her. I have a feeling she's still able to watch it in spirit. Thank you so much for this great & moving performance by Elton.
The voice at its absolute peak. 1978 - 1984; such a soulful and expressive instrument. He'd lost the somewhat boyish shrillness and gained a kind of masculinity in the timbre but retained his entire range. It basically enabled him to sing ANYTHING with as much power or sensitivity (or whatever) he wanted. He's never had enough credit as a singer in my opinion. Perhaps because his exceptional plateau as a singer coincided with what critics (often wrongly in my opinion) regard generally as a creative low period in his songwriting and recording. We'll miss him when he's gone!
i think one of the reasons he's underrated as a singer is because he never meant to be known as a singer, he himself said when he started his career that he's not a singer, also that his music so good as a whole and he doesn't try to stand out as a singer, never trying to show off, in a way it is sort of necessary so the public will look at you and feel the hint that they should be impressed like "look i'm doing something difficult here" sort of vibe, but when you sing humbly like he does even doing it perfectly the public will enjoy the music, which i think is really cool that he tries to deliver the music and not his image. Do you agree with that ?
One of the things that I love about EJ is that while his voice has sadly shown some wear with time, that his music has evolved around it and kept his wonderful creativity fully intact. In concert he's programmed most of the older songs but with transposition and kept from becoming a parody of himself in the 70s. On his albums the less acrobatic vocal writing has gained him a new audience & kept the old one. What a brilliant and inspired man, may the sun never go down on EJ.
These rare, stripped down EJ performances showcase his true genius. I believe there's a unplugged full concert 1976 performance from Edinburgh that's equally as enjoyable to listen to.
Interesting video - I believe EJ seldom performed Jeannie live. The piano part here is very rocking compared to the wonderful but understated electric piano part from the album (not even played by EJ, but by James Newton Howard)
Great great job !!!! Other than the album track itself ... Best version of little Jeannie EVER ... This is such a sweet song and Elton really does it justice in this clip !!! I love Elton so much and this means a lot ... THANKS for posting and NEVER EVER delete it !!!!!!

WHAT A FUCKING TALENT!!!!.
I was 17 then and the whole life ahead...watching this when elton was 33 makes me back in time somehow ❤
Two great singles from a good album. Sartorial Eloquence was one of the many 80’s Elton singles that should have been a bigger hit than it was.

my favorite song of Elton John
best version ever
Always liked this one, such a soulful feel.

Trop fort ! Seul au piano je te fais de la musique, tout simplement. Bravo
escucho y escucho esta cancion y no me canso...genio...
God bless elton
brilliant! hen he`s gone they`ll be calling him a legend!!!
Pretty sure they call him one now.
anos 80 ouvia na rádio cidade Eládio Sandoval locutor da rádio, tocava direto esse hirt, bons tempos.
Elton John es un genio
I love you Elton!!!
Muy bello este video
thanks mate for posting all those EJ clips.
Little Jeannie sounds very alike to "song for Guy"
Eh... Explain? Do you mean the chords?
@@eliassandgren3132 the melody is a tad similar in the intro but not enough to say they sound very alike.
Two classy early 80's singles by Elton. He never does either live and Sartorial is not on any of Elton's compilations or box sets. I don't know why!
Astrosjer Sartorial Eloquence was performed at Central Park in 1980 ☺
Sartorial only made it to #39 on the charts
Raro ver a Elton John sin gafas!
AT 4:08 he is so cute )))))))
I literally paused the video to screenshot that moment! What a cute puppy look.
Don't ever delete this.
5 years later, and it's still here!
8 years later...still here still watching :)
10 years and still going strong 😁
It has been 11 years Tim where are you?!?!
12 now😂
Can someone explain what happened to Elton at 4:44? LOL
That was odd! We may never know but maybe he just pulled something
I think he hit the back of the piano stool causing him to trip 😅
So EJ partially used his baritone voice before 1987?
Yes.
cool
xoxoxo
🙇🙇🙇
Thank you so much for posting this! How did you obtain this video? (may I ask!)
Do you prefer *21 At 33* or *The Fox* ?
I like the fox more. Although 21 at 33 is very good as well
10/10
sometimes looks like Jim Carrey,..
4:44 WTF??
