I recommend binge watching from the start.. You won't be disappointed, every video, even from years back, is special, at least in my mind 💕 welcome to Club extra 😉🥰
I can’t wait to see this finished. I’d love to see it modeled in a Charles Worth retrospective event. It would be amazing to see it modeled with Cathy Hay’s India peacock dress once it’s finished. That kind of event would be a spectacular fundraiser for a worthy organization.
But cathy hay is also a much older and established professional corset maker and writer. This is a young person still living in her parents house. I shuder to think how many hundreds of dolars those peacock feathers cost. That silk velvet is also about $50 a yard and she has about 4 yards there. Even using the cheap lining this dress is easily over a thousand dollars just for materials. Maybe one day Angela can afford silk or polished cotton for the lining.
@@amberbaker4842, people like to be snobby and ignore that. I think Angela might be all of 22 years old. Cathy is easily twice her age and probably has been sewing longer than Angela has been alive. I’m sure she also has quite the professional portfolio where dressmaking/costume making is concerned.
@Dancingonair, Cathy is easily twice Angela’s age and has probably been sewing professionally for longer than Angela has been alive! Angela is 22 or 23 and still lives in her parents’ home. THEREIN lies the difference.
I cannot believe how much patience you have. I would have lost my mind/screamed/cried/killed someone with the struggles you had lining the skirt. Amazing work, as usual.
This dress!! Are you kidding me?? It's something out of a little girl's dream! I couldn't stop looking @33:48 >>> the peacock feathers!! Love! Love! Love it! Amazing job Angela!
I have a pile of vintage patterns to sew my way through in the coming weeks and I'm so excited lol! I think everything will feel easy after my recent few projects.
I really love how the iridescent of the mesh overlay creats a aurora borealis effect on the sky part of the dress, even though it's not in the fashion plate. Seems so fitting!
Please make the rest of the dress! The fact you looked at a picture of the dress and then recreated it in such lush fabrics has impressed me beyond belief!
That would be interesting! While they both make vintage inspired garments they have different styles/eras and work in different ways which would make for a great contrast between their videos and whatever they make
This seems even more fun when I know it is in contrast with sewing hundreds of masks. I am so glad you get to create and share such a dreamy piece with us.
Loving all of the Gwen content! Such a good girl, she even wanted to help. Angela, the full finished skirt is absolutely killer. The over skirt is exceptional. The dark green velvet is beautiful and I think the shiny gold fabric was a great choice for the lining. I can't imagine it being anything else. The under skirt is painted wonderfully and the iridescent overlay is so pretty. The skirt looks fantastic and I can't wait to see the finished gown. It already looks like something the Greek goddess Hera would wear.
10/10 sewing AND dog content That fabric looks incredibly frustrating, yet you still managed to get such a good result. I can't wait to see the rest of this dress!
You inspired me to actually make the dress of my dreams, a period accurate Tudor court gown. I’m hand sewing it, and I’ve made so many mistakes (velvet is truly the devil) and I know that I won’t be 100% happy with it, but it’s my first try with this type of gown and I’m relatively new to intensive sewing like this, but I’m learning and I want to thank you!
OMG girl! Cutting through the velvet with pinking shears, that has to be a BEAST. Sewing velvet, sewing lamé, those are hard to handle with a sewing machine. You remind me of when I started sewing as a teenager and blissfully took on projects that were beyond my skill level. That's how you learn.
Angela, if I thought your iridescence beetle wing project was the tops, this project takes the cake. Not just for working with the velvet but dealing with the Lamé fabric. Made a little dress with those fabrics for my 2 yr old daughter 25 years ago and said never again. The 2-T size was miniscule compared to yours so I commend you on the construction process.
The shaft is more commonly called a spine. Just so that you know. Also this train is gorgeous! Im gonna replicate a Worth gown myself and this is a big inspiration for my own dress.
This is one of my favorites!! As a child I would read the story about the goose girl and how she made a dress out of feathers. To this day something about a dress with feathers just seems so magical.
Angela, what if you soaked the feathers shaft and pierced a hole through it from which you can sew the feathers? Soaking it makes the queratine in the feathers softer. When my birds are molting I have to spray them with water to help the new feathers come out of the queratin case they grow in. Also peacock feathers are HUGE some grow up to a meter, these are probably from the shortest part of the tail or have been cut
I think it's stunning! It has a reslly dreamy quality. I can't wait to see the bodice done! You musta taken a HUGE breath the first time you put a blob of glue onto that expensively gorgeous silk velvet...😁 Coincidentally, how the heck DO you store all these huge dresses?
That netting makes it so insanely gorgeous! It takes it from a cool elaborate historical gown to like, my dream fantasy princess magic outfit from heaven or something, ha.
The whole ordeal seems so complicated and tedious and boring but your lively voice shows how passionate you are. You made constructing complicated garments so exciting and rewarding i adore your critical thinking as well! Great job Angela!
Angela, I have watched your videos for a long time now. You are extremely talented. Every time you doubt yourself, remember that you are always stepping outside your comfort zone and trying something new. And you always leave me in awe of your skill.
If you ever need to make something look "icy" for Winter, this type of netting is AMAZING. Use it as a simple overlay and it disappears into the fabric, making it look like cracked ice.
Fine silk velvet is the very devil to work with! It requires unlimited amounts of courage, perseverance and patience. Well done! This was an awesome project to take on and make look so great.
I’ve never seen anything like this in my life. You’re 22 and self taught? You are totally doing what you were meant to be doing! I’m so excited for you and thankful that you’re sharing your creativity and super ability with all of us!
Magical. You wouldn't think such a space-age looking fabric like that mesh, would work so well with a really formal, classic one like heavy silk velvet. You really wrassled that velvet into submission, lol.
This dress design is such an odd combination of motifs and colors, but it's so beautiful when put all together! I'd have lost my entire mind at the constant struggle against the velvet, you're a freaking superstar for continuing to troubleshoot it till you found something that worked! The mesh overlay is probably my favorite part, though the entire train is just stunning. Well done, Angela!!!!
Hola Angela, quiero decirte que tu trabajo es INCREIBLE!, lleno de pasión, inspiración y corazón. Admiro tu dedicación y persistencia. Sigue con tus expectaculares creaciones y espero que llegues muy lejos. I wish you the best and good health 😀
This is absolutely beautiful. The feathers, the cherubs, the sheer level of *extra* (I did wince watching you sew over pins, but I'm glad you didn't hit any of them bc that stuff can seriously hurt you)
I think this is so amazing! I'm tempted to tell you how talented I think you are... But I think that talent implies that something comes easy and naturally, where as skill is the result of hard work learned from experiences over time... I think you have amazing skill and talent, and thank you for sharing it with us!
I forgot about your dog, so when you said "Gwen" I jumped about a foot in the air 😂😂 The dress is so pretty. That velvet may be a pain but it shimmers so nicely
That overskirt looks amazing! I would be impressed if I saw that in a movie with a giant costume budget. I can't believe you managed to make it by yourself.
What happens to all your gowns and creations after you finish? Do you have a Mrs. Masel room closet filled with clothing racks? If I were you I would lounge around in a different masterpiece each night.
Have you thought of painting the shafts of the feathers with some sparkly green nail polish to tone down their whiteness? Only if it's a visual bother though! They might not show up as much in person as the flash photos may be making them show more.
I was about to comment something similar! I think the white of the quills on the longer feathers stands out too much against the dark green velvet. I think painting them green or even brown would help them fade into the fabric more. But, of course, if Angela doesn't mind, the dress is stunning either way!
I think they are a lot more noticeable in photos than real life. And if you look at the fashion plate, the shafts of the feathers are a noticeably lighter color than the fabric. So it didn't really bother me until I was looking at the photos later on. Now I'm leaning towards coloring them in with an alcohol dye just to deepen the color a bit!
That was spectacular! I can’t wait for the bodice & headdress. From bitter, bitter experience, let me tell you that a walking foot is your friend when sewing velvet 😖
For once I can say, even if I were bestowed infinite practice or patience, iI could never do this. The E6000 fumes would have have given me a migraine before the first row, and possibly had me vomiting or hallucinating had I persisted. It’s a handy product, and I can’t think of another that would do the job, but using it outdoors for a quick repair is about my limit. I’m glad you don’t have the same issue, because I’m so enjoying seeing this ridiculously extra gown of childhood dreams come to life.
Loved watching this project ...also carrot time! This moved my heart because my dog used to love that ball. I always put hunks of carrots in it for her. We called it the carrot ball. Hers was green. Sadly i lost her in 2016, but seeing your pup made me smile. Thank you!!
The most amazing re-creation I've ever seen. Just a thought - on the original is the net overlay draped so that it looks as though the cherubs are holding up the swag in their outstretched hands, maybe ...
It looks absolutely stunning! I don't know why, but to me, it would feel very satisfying to glue down all those feathers. I like repetitive actions and that just seems like the ultimate and most beautiful expression of that. Excited to see the next part!
Man, I love the overskirt and the underskirt, but I find Worth's decision to combine the two very strange. Maybe I'll change my mind when I see your reproduction finished and in motion!
Or the fabric that was produced at the time. When velvet wasn't synthetic and while I have no idea what was used for the white fabric, it could be taffeta which is sturdy to paint on it.
On the last video i saw someone suggest that it might be a Hera costume. The peacock was her animal, and she's also associated with fertility and queen of the gods (hence the cherubs).
I love this video and your sense of humor. I laughed out loud several times. Also, your tenacity is amazing. I would have chucked the whole thing in a bin after the 2nd or 3rd "pooling" event. Well done for sticking with it!
Love your doggie! I used to have one that waited until I had placed, but not pinned, the pattern on the fabric. Used the floor for this. Then Taffy made a running leap! And pattern and fabric went flying!
Fantastic! You have the patience and perseverance of something holy. You, Cathy Hay and Bernadette Banner should all wear your gowns together for a wonderful experience x
LOL I used to gather yards and yards of ruffles the same way for my petticoats! My mom taught me how to sew and I used to never pin or baste anything until I got to a home-ec class where the teacher made me do it. Nowadays I only pin or paste areas where I need to control the fabric more exactly. I enjoyed your video and seeing all the elements that went into this very much. Great work!
So excited to see this new video! Thank you for going over the issues you were having with the fabric, it’s very helpful for newbies like me. Great job and it’s a beautiful skirt!
I love this dress and can't wait to see the end piece. You have inspired me to get back into the sewing room which is my temporary office at the moment. Also, the other night I needed to wash some fabric but I knew the raw edges would come undone in the wash. Instead of using the overlocker or sewing machine. I sat in bed listening to Audible and whip stitching them down!!! I now have 8 meters of Linen all washed and ready to be dyed for my project. Thank you for being a wonderful influence on me 😀
This is beautiful and really close to the original! I, like many others here, are confused as to why/how Mr. Worth would combine two concepts (even thought it was a costume dress) and make it look presentable. Eagerly awaiting the full result!
dear one, you have outdone yourself!! i thought the underskirt alone was extraordinary and amazing--i can't believe how much the overskirt and train add! it is a marvel of wearable art! can't wait to see the rest of the ensemble come together. xoxoxoxoxo
I see pvc 1 1/2" caps with felt bottom for your wonderweights.. Also I love that I'm trying to find non permanent marking tools to mark fabric and you're going in all RAAAAAHHHH! with a sharpie! (I know that layer won't be seen). Our dogs (3) love carrots too! They get baby carrots with their dinner.
I love the choice of the shimmery netting. It ties in a lot of the colors of the two skirts together where before I thought they didn't quite go together. Now its absolutely perfect. I cant wait to see the finished dress. ❤
Congratulations on successfully surviving this portion of recreating this dress! Your choice of materials was spot on! The colors and sheen are perfect! I look forward to your next video(s) completing this dress!! WOW!!
It is quite lovely and inspiring to see such care go into your creations. I look forward to seeing the rest of the dress and headdress. When it is finally done I feel you and Bernadette and Cathy should all get together with the amazing peacock dresses.
Wow, Ilove original dresses and "extra" things, but at first I thought that cherubs, peacoks, clouds of material won't please me... But the result is amazing, it's such a mash-up of extravagant details and I LOVE IT, please share more and more of your talent with us !
This is beautiful. I'm in awe at the amount of work and dedication you put into each of your garments. And then you put in a lot of further work by filming the process and doing a voice over. I just wanted to say that you are doing an amazing job and I think you are a wonderful seamstress. Thank you for making these videos, I hope you keep doing them. Xxx
This is the definition of the word "extra." Subscribed.
If extra is what you’re after, this is definitely the channel for you! Have fun, and welcome!
I recommend binge watching from the start.. You won't be disappointed, every video, even from years back, is special, at least in my mind 💕 welcome to Club extra 😉🥰
The quote for this whole dress-making vlogs: "it's easier said than done."

Cathy Hays gown is a Worth gown as well.
Peggy Riordan I think she knows that

My mom loves peacock feathers but hates sewing but I'm still going to make her sit through this video because she will want one.
I imagine that after all this work you'd be glad to sew something "simple" like a 1960-s style dress or skirt.
I have a pile of vintage patterns to sew my way through in the coming weeks and I'm so excited lol! I think everything will feel easy after my recent few projects.

You and Bernadette should do a collaboration! (Obviously when this plague ends). You both live in NY,too!
Dose she or was That a big trip (European perspective)?
Regardless of distance I think them doing a collaboration would be awesome.
It would be amazing
That would be interesting! While they both make vintage inspired garments they have different styles/eras and work in different ways which would make for a great contrast between their videos and whatever they make
Omg yes!!
I love how your nails match the peacock feathers! Well done Angela! You are amazing :)
her nails almost always match the garments/pieces she's working on. somehow, lol. this is an art in itself ;p
This seems even more fun when I know it is in contrast with sewing hundreds of masks. I am so glad you get to create and share such a dreamy piece with us.

"Awesome in a Lame but Helpful Way." I feel like Angela just wrote my Eulogy with that one. No ridged shafts screwing, none! Not allowed!

Alaska Cosplay I’ve only ever come across it referred to as a shaft
I yelled NOOOOO when you put glue on silk velvet, you're so brave!!!

Sharpies are your friend...
That was spectacular! I can’t wait for the bodice & headdress.
From bitter, bitter experience, let me tell you that a walking foot is your friend when sewing velvet 😖
She is one of my favorite sewing youtuber ever. She is so extra in a good way, and she loves what she is doing.
The netting portions alone would have made me meltdown! Many props to you ❤️
For once I can say, even if I were bestowed infinite practice or patience, iI could never do this. It is no small thing to tackle a Worth gown.
I can't wait to see the bodice and headpiece!
Angela you're sew awesome! Attempt 4 and I'd thrown it out a window lol your dress is simply beautiful and stunning. Well done 💕
This looked like an extreme exercise in patience, but SO worth the effort. It's coming along beautifully!
Your attention to detail is splendidly. My dear this is lovely. You had a vision & made it a reality. This is truly a peak into heaven. ❤️
👼🏼👼🏽👼
It looks absolutely stunning! I don't know why, but to me, it would feel very satisfying to glue down all those feathers. I like repetitive actions and that just seems like the ultimate and most beautiful expression of that. Excited to see the next part!
Man, I love the overskirt and the underskirt, but I find Worth's decision to combine the two very strange. Maybe I'll change my mind when I see your reproduction finished and in motion!
Could be his client's choice at the time.
Emma Jenkins that actually makes so much sense!
I love this video and your sense of humor. I laughed out loud several times. Also, your tenacity is amazing. I would have chucked the whole thing in a bin after the 2nd or 3rd "pooling" event. Well done for sticking with it!
Your patience with the velvet and underskirts certainly paid off...it looks wonderful. Can’t wait to see the finished dress....🥰😘🇦🇺
I love the way this dress is turning out! The iridescent netting is such a perfect add on!
Love your doggie! I used to have one that waited until I had placed, but not pinned, the pattern on the fabric. Used the floor for this. Then Taffy made a running leap! And pattern and fabric went flying!
Your patience was rewarded! That's a spectacular result.
Thank you for being a wonderful influence on me 😀
This dress is so extra and I am HERE for it.
This dress is sooooo beautiful!!! 😍😍😍 I'll definitely stay tuned for the bodice and the "funny headpiece"! 😁👍👍👍
Basting the main fabric to a lining at interval is one technique that couturiers like Chanel used a lot. A tried and tested technique!
Absolutely beautiful. So different from other Worth dresses, but I love peacock feathers. I am amazed at your ability to recreate it so beautifully.
This is beautiful and really close to the original! I, like many others here, are confused as to why/how Mr. Worth would combine two concepts (even thought it was a costume dress) and make it look presentable. Eagerly awaiting the full result!
The effort and care you’ve put into this gown is really inspiring. It’s just amazing seeing this whole process unfold 🦚
dear one, you have outdone yourself!! i thought the underskirt alone was extraordinary and amazing--i can't believe how much the overskirt and train add! it is a marvel of wearable art! can't wait to see the rest of the ensemble come together. xoxoxoxoxo
I love your videos and you're so talented but I have to admit that like 70% of my enjoyment comes from seeing your dog.
70% of my enjoyment in life comes from seeing my dog too, so I understand!
Yes please make the bodice and headdress ! The skirts look incredible!
all i kept thinking throughout the video was ‘you poor soul’. ive only ever worked with velvet once before... never again. Beautiful work as always
I would never have thought to do the waistband like that! I'll have to remember that for future projects.
I'm really intrigued. Looks so fantastical. Definitely something out of a fairy tale.
This is such a weird combination of colors and materials and... everything. But I love it, it is really out of the box and it inspires me
This seems over-the-top difficult, even for you, Angela!!! Holy smokes, girl! Wow!
I love the choice of the shimmery netting. It ties in a lot of the colors of the two skirts together where before I thought they didn't quite go together. Now its absolutely perfect. I cant wait to see the finished dress. ❤
I think I'm in love with this dress
Congratulations on successfully surviving this portion of recreating this dress! Your choice of materials was spot on! The colors and sheen are perfect! I look forward to your next video(s) completing this dress!! WOW!!

I adore the bunching of the mesh in the front. It creates such a gorgeous color and shape and look!!
it's always delightful listening to you working through problems. Thank you!
Wow, Ilove original dresses and "extra" things, but at first I thought that cherubs, peacoks, clouds of material won't please me... But the result is amazing, it's such a mash-up of extravagant details and I LOVE IT, please share more and more of your talent with us !
WOW I think this dress is coming along magnificently
Exquisite!! This is something you would see in a lavishly costumed period film!
this will deserved to be in a museum once is finished, omg it looks surreal
I love the netting! Reminds me of northern lights 🌌
Xxx
