Leclair was for the violin music what Rameau was for the opera (they both died in 1764) They fully rejected the old Lully dictatorship rigid traditions, very audacious but quite logic harmonic progressions which allowed quite original melodic expressions. They made a wise use of unexpected modulations, had a good sense of architecture and equilibrium, of wonderful colors due to the perfect knowledge and mastering of the violin for Leclair and of the late baroque orchestra for Rameau. Of course, they are top level baroque French composers, but also top level baroque composers in a global way.. Sometimes despised as survivors of a past age (mainly Rameau), we now discover that they wrote great music who could not be written neither before nor after them, and which be a lack for musical art if they did not exist. When I built up my CD collections, of ourse I got the Beethoven symphonies, the Mozart concertos, the Debussy piano music, but cery soon I did my bet to gat a quasi integral of violin sonatas and trios by Leclair. I enjoy Guillaume de Machaut, I enjoy Boulez, and I much enjoy Leclair and Rameau.
Magnifique.....🤩
