Hey just wanted to thank you for this great balance of detail and getting right to the point too. I really appreciate the timestamps you added for each part so I could skip to the end to see if it's worth it before going back to look into the different aspects in detail - my ADHD and time-poor parent life really appreciate that! And love your honesty. I'll subscribe just for that :)
Wow definitely enjoyed your video and your opinion. Coming from a 704b to a fx6 I honestly wanna get a sunsun 3000. You sound like a genuine guy and us average Joe's appreciate it. I'll definitely sub and look forward to whatever ya post. Almost Thanksgiving so imma leave ya with a happy and healthy holidays to you and your family.
SunSun 3000 is probably the only SunSun canister that's worth the price if you have a tank that's 35 gallons or more. Simple math; 704B = 45W for 525GPH and 3000 = 18W for 528GPH (level 3 setting), that's a savings of $30 per year on a $0.13/KWH (average cost) or $150 of electrical power savings in 5 years. If it can last 10 years even with rotor and o ring replacements, it'll pay for itself 2 times over in power savings versus the SunSun 704B or 304B.
My old 304b still running. I've had that thing for other 10 years. It's been running the whole time. The only thing, is the basket handles suck. But other then that, great cheap canister's and did I say, quiet, very quiet for over 10 years. I might try one of these.
my one leaked!! not through the o ring it leaked into the electricals it melted the uv globe connection blew the house fuses never again , so i bought an oase secondhand with a prefilter can't be happier
I have a hw 3000 and I love it only thing is the first time I cleaned it 4 months of use I cleaned it put it back together and it leaked, I tried it 8 times and it is sitting in the corner going to try a new o ring. Will be kinda pricey to change the o ring every time you clean your filter. What do I do if I can't get it to seal? How do I contact Sunsun?
Glad i came across this video. Just got into the hobby and i have a 55 gallon with a hang on back. Looking to upgrade to a canister and seen this one. A year later would you still recommend? Assuming you still have it
I run all sun sun canister filters and they do the job for a 1/4 of the price. If they leak you aren’t doing something right. Seals wear out on everything and can be replaced cheaply.
Thanks so much for the detailed review. Is there not a non-UV model? Since my Sunsun JUP-23’s crystal sleeve snapped off and the uv bulb metal connecties corroded, I’m staying away from UV. At least cheap ones, anyway. I still don’t understand how it didn’t electrocute the fish or short circuit the house wiring! Wondering if there’s a way;of removing the UV terminals and filling the void. The reason I’m keen on this filter is the stated flow. Anything else over 2000 l/hr would be too big for my cabinet. An fx2 may just fit but will make maintenance difficult.
I don't think there is for the US market. I know there is a non UV model of the 704 but it's not available. There is also a slighty updated version that is black and red but seems only available in Asian market.
Hey! Nice videos on the SunSun I really appreciate all of your insight. How did you modify the clip for the intake/output? I’m running into the same issue with it not being wide enough to fit over the trim of the tank.
Yes, it's variable with the minimum being 30 watts, so at the motors lowest speed it's consuming 30 watts. I don't know what the max is, probably 60 watts. I don't have a amp meter to know the exact numbers and don't really care, my electric bill did not change so I'm good :-)
I bought a sunsun 3000 (with UV) via Amazon, from a company called "Finest Filters" after 8 months in service and not immediately after a routine service, it started to leak from the top seal, The leak destroyed my tank cabinet, and damaged the ceiling of the room below, Finest Filters kindly supplied a new O-ring FOC. This has NOT resolved the issue, and it still leaks, Had I not installed the filter in a tub with an electronic flood alarm, there would have been further damage to my property. Other posts on TH-cam etc suggest this is not an uncommon fault and some suggest wrapping PTFE tape under where the O-ring sits to try and get a better seal, That's utterly ridiculous ... and points strongly to poor design. I am now seeking a full refund from Finest Filters , and if not forthcoming ... I will be raising th matter with Amazon and seeking legal advice.
They can compress a bit also. Good to replace them every year or so. I have a 704b that has been going strong for 5 years. I also lube it after every cleaning with silicone grease.
It's a good filter for the money 135$...can't beat it, a marine land 220 cost that much....get 2 for 100$ less the an fx 6.... Ridiculous that fx6 price
Trash, hw304 is simply better, i had many problems with that filter, leaking, problems with priming, constantly keeps air inside, just junk. Old well tested HW304 is much better
@@BassManStrikes i had it on my 125 with oscars, convicts etc.- it was much more difficult tank to run for it and it didn't keep up. The worst problem was leakage while it's turned off, sealed only while running. Moreover- i have never reached higher flow than HW304 so it waste of money to buy HW3000 as it is the same size etc but more expensive.
Mine never leak even if the power goes out, but I do make sure the O-rings are in good shape and replace if they get hard. I have heard of some leaking when the power is shut off for really long periods. Longest I have had them off for a power outages was 6 hours. I kept a close eye on them during that one but they never leaked.
@@BassManStrikes yeah sure, but still- why would you buy it over hw304 which is considerably cheaper? You keep hw3000 on full flow anyway and it's still slower. Hw304 has priming pump like every filter should have.

They are work horses for sure 😀👍
In your opinion, would the 3000 be ok in a heavy stocked 125 gallon if ran with a tidal 75 or 110? Thanks
Can you please show us how you modified the intake and outtake to fit on a rimmed 110Xl Tall tank

Thanks for the info. Looking at getting one to replace a 1400lph canister for a 180l (50 g) tank
Great filter you will like it 👍🙂

I grease the oring with silicone diving grease and really clean the groove it sits in.

@@BassManStrikes thank you 🙏
I need to see that picture of how you modified the outlet to fit the tank rim
Is there any way to turn off the display on the he3000? I keep my filter on the side of the tank and don't want to see the light on constantly.
Nope, but you can just put a piece of black electrical tape over it.

Nvm I just rewatched your video 😂. I’ll cut the clip in half tomorrow morning and get everything installed. Thank you again for the great content.
I notice you are running 2 filters, will just the 1 hw 3000 be good for a 75?
Yes, it should be fine, I am actually just running one now.
BELIEVE ME THIS IS THE BEST REVIEW OF THIS CANISTER IN TH-cam 🫵👍💯
What did you replace the green Vimalaramsi hoses with?
Black Silicone tubing, been working great gor over a year
Thank you. Subscribed.
Where did you find a 75 black seal tank?
Had my local shop order it from Aqueon.
One question - what is the power consumption of the HW-3000?
It's variable depending on what speed you run it at.
@@BassManStrikes Seriously? I will ask again - what is the Real power consumption of the HW-3000?
Yes, it's variable with the minimum being 30 watts, so at the motors lowest speed it's consuming 30 watts. I don't know what the max is, probably 60 watts.

Hi what are the 2 fish in your tank
2 comet goldfish 😁
Can I run the sun sun hw3000 as the only filter for a 55 gallon African cichlid tank
Probably, would depend on how many fish you have in the tank. You could supplement with a HOB.
Can you tell me the measurements for the canister? I can't find anything accurate online and I want to see if it will fit in my cabinet.
I can get a rough measurement for you.
@@BassManStrikes Thanks so much! Amazon says 18x13x16 but it looks square so I don't think that's right.
It's about 15 inches to the top and 18 to top of valve block.
@@BassManStrikes looks like it will fit. Thank you!
Curious how this held up long term!
They hold up decent if you maintain them periodically. The o-ring gets hard and should be replaced like yearly.
If you dont mind me askin....where are you getting the replacement o rings? I cant pinpoint thr hw3000 for anything!
The best place is ebay, from a seller called tech n toy out of Chicago, there is also one called cl pet supply out of Madison Wisconsin.
The main pump o ring is the same as the older sunsuns I believe will have to double check.
@@BassManStrikes thank you! Ive looked everywhere and couldnt find!
Thanks for help me on my choice 🤝
Great video! Are you not worried about it not being UL listed for insurance purposes?
Thanks 😊
No not really 👍😎
I’m planning on getting a hw-3000 but have a thick rimmed tank could you go into more detail on how to modify to fit
I will post a picture in the community section of the channel
Where do you purchase parts? We use the hw3000 and 704b.
I get parts from Tech n Toy on ebay or CLL Pet Supplies:

any heating issue with UV light
Hi, not that I noticed. I have it set to only run a few hours per day.
@@BassManStrikes so we can set if we do not want to run the UV
@@BassManStrikes so is it same for Sunsun XWA Series as well
@@seejus6131 yes you can turn it off by setting the time to 0
@@seejus6131 not sure what that is.

Yes and spare parts are easy to get 😁
It's underpowered unless you don't want to actually use it as a filter,
Hi Gary, mine does a great job, not underpowered at all. The flow rate when put on a single out take tube is pretty good.
