    I flew through everything related to starting my Etsy POD shop until I got to the shipping rates. It all seemed so confusing and I didn't want to end up losing money.
    I started with Printify (they have the most intuitive interface) and just added in the max shipping rate for the product in question so that I didn't short myself.
    This video series really helped me grasp what to do and what to stop doing. Thanks!!
    Also, I added Gelato and Printful as providers for certain items and realized that Gelato makes shipping really easy. Literally one click at the end of the listing before publishing (Make sure you compensate for it in the listing price properly). The caveat is that Gelato doesn't offer as many products. Printful on the other hand, has a ton of products and integrates directly with most marketplaces, including Amazon (so no extra money needed for an integration partner) but is so clunky to use!
    Can you do (or have you?) a series on the strengths and weaknesses of each major p.o.d. partner?
    It would be very helpful to newcomers learning the ropes.
    Anyway, thanks again. Good stuff!

    I got my answer right at the end! I realized that my Printful shipping profile has free shipping in the US and everywhere else in the world! I'm now creating a profile for free shipping in the US and charging shipping abroad! Thanks so much as I had a hard time finding the information I needed! Cheers!

    This was truly a GREAT video, Jeff. And to be polite to the two companies I will be using when I sell, one Dropshipping Co. and one Market Place, I won't mention their names, however, your video just answered two question that I could not get from the two companies I'll be working with. It was quite awful actually, and I'm starting to get the impression that just because someone works for a company, it doesn't mean they will have all the answers, which leads to getting bombarded with a library of links, or "we will have our team look at it and send you an email." On the one hand, these companies can go a long way in assisting us in developing our own business, but in another way, I have come to the conclusion, sometimes we are on our own trying to figure things out. This is why video's like yours, Jeff, are so valuable. Without the wonderful education available on TH-cam, I would have given up trying to sell online long ago.

      Thank you so much! I agree with you, sometimes support on the platforms is quick to refer you to some resources that don't fully answer your question unfortunately, and they also may not fully understand some aspects of the sales platform/marketplace they integrate with. I've had great experiences with support and some not so great ones, like you said it seems to depend on the individual sometimes. It's a shame that some people end up not pursuing the business they wanted to start because of confusion or not being able to find the answers they need, so I'm glad to hear that these videos are helpful!

    Hi there! First of all, thank you so much for your amazing videos, they're truly helpful and address very important information that usually goes unnoticed by everyone teaching POD. Now, I've got a quick question for you, I really hope you can help me.
    Let's say that for my T-Shirts I want to use Printify for North America and Gelato for the EU. Do I need to create 2 different listings on Etsy, each with its correspondent shipping profile? If this is the case, and I think you say something about it in this video, would a person in the US see my listing with Gelato(EU) or only the one with Printify?
    It's not ideal having to have 2 different listings for the same product, but it'd be far worse to deal with customers that don't see the right one according to their geographical location and then have all sorts of problems.
    Thanks for your time and knowledge! Cheers!

  • @beegee315

    Awesome, solved an issue for me. I mainly use Printify but have recently used Printiful for a few items. I was concerned that because Printiful use fulfilment centres local to the buyer, where possible, my shipping rates didn't make sense. I didn't realise until watching this that Printiful push their rates to Etsy.

    Hello, thank you so much. Question, I am in Canada however because shipping is so expensive in Canada and super slow, I want to offer my products only to USA customer for now. When I try to do that Etsy says you have to offer domestic shipping. Also I noticed unless I click on calculate that is the only way the Free Shipping green label pops up. Any suggestions? Though I am in Canada, trying to offer to USA only with Free shipping.

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! That is a great question and I never actually thought about this scenario, so I had to look around a bit but unfortunately it looks like Etsy requires you to have a domestic shipping method, meaning your listings have to be offered domestically. I could not find a way to only show products in a different country without a domestic shipping method in the profile if anyone out there knows a workaround for that I would love to know.
      That being said, you do have options when it comes to how you list your products. I can think of at least 3 options that you have (one of which I use myself):
      1. Single listing per product, create products using US print providers, set your pricing based on that, use the shipping profile to account for the higher Canada shipping cost and do either free shipping or a lower cost for the US, and manually change the print provider on individual orders that are for Canada (this is what I do) - basically, just set a higher shipping price for domestic vs. the US but if someone in Canada does make a purchase, you still can manually change the print provider for that order. This one has medium time commitment - no duplicate listings, but occasional manual work to edit orders.
      2. Same as #1, but don't bother changing the print provider manually for orders in Canada - the only difference here is that you can use automatic order fulfillment because you don't have to worry about "catching" any orders for Canada to change the print provider. However you would need to show a longer delivery time for domestic shipping and possibly even a higher shipping price (which in theory wouldn't matter if you don't care about getting sales in Canada). This one is the least time-intensive I think.
      3. Create separate listings for US & Canada, with different print providers and have separate shipping profiles, one for Canada providers and one for US providers. You still have to include domestic and US on the US ones, but you can set your prices & shipping charges focused solely on the US print providers and just put a high domestic shipping charge, assuming nobody will buy from Canada on those listings. Offer the same product in a separate listing with the Canada pricing and shipping charge and exclude all other countries in the shipping profile - these would have the best chance of making sales in Canada. This option is the most time-intensive I think because of all the work to publish each listing twice.
      There may be other options, but those are the 3 that I can think of. I hope that helps!

    What do you do with the weight and dimensions info?

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! For print on demand, all shipping is a flat charge that is not based on weight & size. If you're creating a new shipping profile, at the very top you have the option that says "Shipping Prices" and the default setting is "Calculate them for me". Change that to "I'll enter fixed prices manually" and your profile will then change so you can enter your flat shipping prices without the weight & size information.

    I watched both this video and your first one. If you are selecting a different producer for your orders from outside the US, are you processing all our orders manually? You said you grab the order and pick another producer. Can you do that if your orders are usually processed automatically by a company such as Printify? I'm finding that bit confusing. Thank you for the in-depth information that I couldn't find anywhere else on TH-cam! It's truly appreciated. 🙌 I'm planning to use Gelato and have a newbie question about shipping profiles in my Etsy-shop. For instance, if I create a shipping profile template for a mug, can I update the preferred shipping costs to different countries directly within this profile? Or do I need to create separate profiles for each country? Looking forward to your guidance, thank you! 😀

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Yes, you can set different shipping prices for each destination country within your shipping profiles and then use one profile for all listings of the same product type (I strongly recommend this actually because otherwise you'll have a ton of shipping profiles to update if prices change at some point). You also control which countries you want to sell in by adding/removing them from the shipping profile as well.

    Can you share what to do with the Item size and item weight part of Etsy Shipping requirements? I have watched a number of these videos, thanks for taking the time and expending the energy to help all of us earn additional income, and PLEASE HELP! If I am printing on Printify and they are handling the shipping process, how do I find the item size and weight to include in my Etsy listing? Thank you in avance.

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi! The item weight and size is only required when your shipping profile pricing is set to "Calculate them for me". With Printify, you will pay a fixed shipping price for all items and they do not provide detailed information about the weight or package dimensions, so you can choose "I'll enter fixed prices manually" for the pricing option in the shipping profile. This will make the weight and size fields in the listing optional and you can leave them blank. If you publish your listings using one of the Printify default shipping profiles, it will come through will everything pre-populated using fixed prices and you can edit the shipping profile prices and destination countries to meet your needs - that can save a little time vs. creating one from scratch. I hope that helps!

  • @jezelf2774

    great video, thanks - question: if I have a different listing for a product variant (for Printify), do I use a unique shipping profile? Or if I'm using a custom option I ignore the imported one?
    I have 3 different canvas sizes and have to list them separately because of shipping costs to Canada are different to each, I can't put 1 blanket cost as it would not be fair to some of the customers.
    Printify created a new profile per listing, so I guess I use that individual profile to match with the individual canvas size? I think I'm getting confused with the origin vs the product details. The profile is for that specific product, size, right? if I use one for all different sizes, the customers would all get the same size canvas? hope that makes sense. thanks!
    EDIT: I think I have it - I do a custom one for each variant size then saved it in Etsy as a new profile and delete the imported Printify ones. I think I was getting confused thinking the profile is telling what order to fulfil, but it's telling the Etsy buyer their shipping costs? hence the shipping profile. - new to this, sorry.

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Yes, you have it right in your edit. The shipping profile for each size will just make sure they are paying the appropriate shipping price for each size. Once you have a profile set up for each size, you can apply them to any additional listings that you create for each size instead of creating new ones for every new product. You've got it!

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! If you primarily will be selling in Australia, you can change your Etsy shop currency to AUD by going to the Finances option in the seller dashboard, and then select Payment Settings, and go to the Currency tab. You can change the shop currency there, and then all your listings will display in AUD by default. Etsy will still convert the displayed currency of your listings based on the location of the customer. Your shop currency also controls your payouts from Etsy, so as long as your bank is AUD that won't be an issue. If your bank account that receives payouts is another currency, you may be charged a currency conversion fee.

    I appreciate your videos! My new shop is just digital art canvas prints. Do you recommend one listing per size of print to keep the shipping prices accurate and concise?

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! For a product like canvas where the shipping costs vary widely by size, you really only 3 options if you offer multiple sizes:
      1. Charge the highest amount needed for all sizes in the same shipping profile, then reduce the product prices for the smaller sizes accordingly.
      2. Do free shipping and build the cost into each size.
      3. List each size separately with the appropriate shipping cost in separate profiles.
      I personally prefer option 1 or 2 since it's less work to create the listings for each design. But if neither of those work for you, you definitely can list them separately.

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad it was helpful! I don't recommend including shipping upgrades on the majority of listings unless you have verified with the print providers that you're using that they offer upgraded shipping options. Many on Printify do not have any option for upgraded shipping, but some do. For example, Monster Digital & SwiftPOD both do and they are who I use for my T-Shirt listings, so for my T-Shirt shipping profile only I do offer a shipping upgrade option (it's really expensive though so people rarely do it...it's like $20 more than regular shipping and it goes up in Q4). For my other shipping profiles I don't offer an upgrade because it's not consistent enough across all the providers I use. I hope that helps!

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! When you create new shipping profiles from Printify, I believe they usually publish with "other" as the company with a custom timeframe entered. If you know the shipping carrier and method (from the tracking information on your orders), you can enter it in your shipping profile. But I usually just use the "other" option and leave the custom estimated timeframe that Printify includes - they set it pretty conservatively based on economy shipping methods but you can always add a day or two to add extra buffer if you want to. That way you don't have to worry about changing it if the print provider changes the carrier that they use.

      Hi! I actually have a whole video about international shipping setup if you want to check it out. But the short version is: you set the shipping prices and delivery times for each country in the shipping profile based on the cost and delivery times from the print provider that you plan to use rather than the cost from your primary/domestic print provider. th-cam.com/video/EKR1RwJV-xQ/w-d-xo.html

    Hello. Thanks for this video! Is each shipping profile price charged each time a customer places an order? Is this shipping cost charged twice when a customer orders 2 of an item? Or is this shipping charge only charged once, regardless of how many items in each order from the same listing that a customer purchases? Thanks.

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! The price you set in the shipping profile is charged for each order placed. The shipping profile has a first item price and an "additional item" price. When a customer buys multiple items from the same listing, they pay the first item price for the first item, plus the additional item price for the additional items from that listing. So if your first item price is set as $5 and your additional item price is set as $2, then an order for 3 items from that listing would be charged a total of $9 for shipping.

    Printify "automatically assign a shipping profile " doesn't assign a unique profile. It assigns to another shirt thats the same model. Frustrating because if I want to create free shipping for one shirt, multiple shirts will be affected also. Etsy & Printify blame each other. Anyone have this issue or a remedy? • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Yes you would have to manually switch fulfillment to a different provider when the order comes in. Because I generally have less than 10 international orders per month, it's not a ton of work for me to switch the provider for them so it's the best option for the customer. If I did have a lot of international orders spread out in many countries every month, I might lean towards a platform like Gelato since they automatically route every order to a provider that is closest to the customer.

      @@nadinenewbery9266 Yes, ideally you would submit the order with your intended provider the same day (or the next day if the order comes in late) so there is no delay for the customer. Hi! Yes, for the origin postal code you would still use their location if that's where the orders will be shipped from. You should be able to get a location from their website or you could email them if they don't list one. Once you have a completed order, you can check the tracking information to see the zip code for where the label was created, and then update the shipping profile if you need to.

      @PODinsights  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! In my experience, customers don't seem to question where the order ships from so I would go with the origin zip code that would expect to be the most frequently sold product in the listing and then not worry about it. As long as your other print provider is in the same country, any difference in shipping time due to their location being different is going to be negligible.

    Hi there - great video thank you. I want to offer free shipping on all products in my Etsy store. I use Printify to fulfil my orders. Wondering if there's any way you can offer free shipping to different countries but then change the cost of the product for each country - so that the more expensive shipping to international countries is covered in the cost of your product. Also, if you offer free shipping and incorporate the cost of shipping the item into your product price, what happens if someone orders multiple additional items and you haven't accounted for that charge in your product cost? For example if the cost of shipping each additional item is $4 and someone orders 10 items, that's a significant cost that you have not passed onto the customer. Hope those questions make sense! Thanks!

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Unfortunately Etsy does not allow you to set product pricing based on country, only shipping prices. If you want to do free shipping in additional countries, there is a way to do it but it's quite a bit of work. You would need to duplicate your listings and have a separate shipping profile for each country so that the listing only shows in the country that you are targeting. I have a video where I walk through doing that. If you're selling in a lot of different countries that can definitely be too much work to be worth it though. Hi! If you are setting up a shipping profile to use for a category of product (like t-shirts) you can edit one of the shipping profiles that was published from Printify (or any existing shipping profile) or create one from scratch, it does not make a difference. Ultimately the most important thing is setting the prices and countries you want to sell in based on your intent. I hope that helps!

    How to I delete all of those extra shipping profiles that I have? I decided to just offer free shipping to US and add it into the overall cost. I know I have to go in and do it in groups by the zip code, but I want to have it look neat. I know that I can change the shipping profile. Also, I've gone in an changed a lot of my shipping profiles to "free shipping", but it is still showing as "fixed rate" on the description, so I can't tell which ones I've changed and which ones that I haven't changed.

      @PODinsights  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! When you go into your Settings > Shipping Settings, on the shipping profiles tab where all your shipping profiles are listed, you should see a trash can icon on the far right for each profile. If you have lots of profiles that are not assigned to any active listings, you can click the trash can to delete them. Unfortunately I don't think you can bulk-delete them, so you have to click the trash can individually. I believe they are sorted by how many listings are assigned to the profile, so you can probably go to the last page and start deleting from there. The profile is going to have the "fixed" label even if you offer free domestic shipping, so I personally put that in the name of the profile so I can tell them apart. For example, my t-shirt profile is named "T-Shirts - FREE Domestic". I hope that helps!

      Hi! Yes you can make any changes that you would like to your shipping profiles, but you do that in your Etsy account, not on the Printify side of things. When you are publishing a new listing from Printify, at the bottom of the product page where the publishing options are, you can select any existing shipping profile in your Etsy account, but you can't edit the details of the shipping profile from there. To get into your shipping profiles to make changes, on your Etsy seller dashboard you navigate to Settings > Shipping Settings. On that page you should see a list of all your existing shipping profiles, where you can open and edit them or delete any that you don't want to keep. I hope that helps!

    How can you set up the shipping profiles on Etsy so that you are offering free shipping on orders over a certain order price threshold?

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Etsy has a Free Shipping Guarantee option available, however you cannot change the threshold. It is a fixed $35 threshold if you turn on the free shipping guarantee for your shop, so all domestic US (it doesn't apply to international oders) over $35 will get free shipping. If you want to control the threshold, you can offer a coupon code for free shipping in your shop and set your own order minimum to use it. If you do that, you can put the information about the coupon code in all your listings so customers are aware. Unfortunately there currently is no option directly within your shipping profiles to do this - they have to be set up as "all or nothing" free shipping or paid shipping.

    im still confused printful makes it way easier. there are different shipping times for different providers so how would that work? also every providers offers different prices.

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Your production time should always be conservative and represent the maximum range that you expect. For example, outside of Q4, most t-shirt print providers on Printify average 2-4 business days production time. My t-shirt shipping profile is set to 2-5 days of production time. In Q4 when things slow down, I change my production time in that shipping profile to 3-8 business days. I have not had any issues with this method even though I do change the print provider from time to time based on stock status.
      As far as prices go - for a specific product the shipping price does not vary that much. Right now on Printify for a B+C 3001 t-shirt the shipping charges for all providers in the US range between $4.29 and $5.39 with the majority of providers being $4.35 to $4.80. If you base your product pricing or shipping charge (depending on whether you do free shipping or not) on the average cost or even the highest cost, then changing between print providers for individual orders will not be significantly impacted by the shipping cost. It's much more likely to be impacted by product price differences.
      Also keep in mind, for the vast majority of orders for a given product, they are being fulfilled by the same provider. I only change print providers for individual items when something is out of stock, so these variances don't have a significant impact on profits.

I have a quick question however on one of the points you touched on at the 14:06 time mark of the vlog, you mentioned about being competitive in a specific country and using a specific supplier. I live in Canada and use Printify as my fulfillment company. how would i go about choosing a country specific center for a specific country since do i need to make two listing one for Canada and one for USA as an example. Thank you in advance for the information

    • @PODinsights
      @PODinsights  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Great question, to change the supplier for orders that come from specific countries, I have to manually place the order with my preferred provider. If the provider I want to use is also on the Printify platform, then I just edit the order and change the product to one that I have created as a draft in my Printify account with the other provider. For example, my mug listings are set up using District Photo because most of my orders come from the US. When I sell a mug to a customer in Canada, I will have the order fulfilled by Duplium instead. To do this, I create a draft of the same mug in my Printify account with Duplium. Then I manually edit any orders for customers in Canada to change them over to Duplium. Because I know I'm going to do this, I set my shipping price in my "Mugs" shipping profile based on the cost from Duplium + tax instead of the shipping price from District Photo. For some countries like Italy or Spain I use Gelato instead of Printify because their shipping prices on Gelato are generally lower and they have print providers that are usually pretty close to the customer. When that happens, I will cancel the order on Printify and then manually place the order with Gelato. This only happens maybe 1-2 times per month for me though, so it doesn't take a lot of time. I wish there was an automated way to route orders based on the destination country - that might be a feature that some order management platforms like OrderDesk offer, but those add another third party app into the mix and have a monthly fee. I hope that helps!
