I am hearing some very nice, positive comments on this thread about this instruction. Heueristic instruction seems to really work for people. If you're struggling with this as much as I did please write the steps to them and add in conditional statements under each step. For example step 1 for me is divided into 3 steps itself, simplify, combine, and isolate, in terms of log expression. Under simplify I have statements such as: May need to use power property, logs may cancel if bases are same, may need to multiply out the denominator, ect. Hope it helps : ) GL

I still don't understand what logarithms do. Can't you just write 2^x = 16 instead of log2(16)=x? In fact, wouldn't that just make it harder since you need to convert it to exponential form when solving anyways. I don't think logs help much when solving for an equation where the x is on both sides to the equation. Can someone explain please?
funny enough, that relationship there is exactly why they’re needed. because they’re opposites, you can both learn from deducing information from the opposite half (knowing 2³ = 8, so log base 2 of 8 is 3) logs are basically asking, what would the exponent be to get this value? and then exponents are the ones we love, but sometimes can’t do what we want with them. so then we convert it to the equivalent opposite, in log form! and then can use the laws of logarithms and logarithmic properties to manipulate it so that it’s in a form we can effectively work with since we got it into a better form using this relationship but also other mathematics processes and concepts! A little late, LOL

the equation at 8:29 has a long and a short method. You showed the short method, but the long method consists of log base 2 (x^2+4x)=log base 2 (5) put both terms on LHS log base 2 (x^2+4x) - log base 2 (5) = 0 using log laws log base 2 [(x^2+4x)/5)=0 2^0 = (x^2+4x)/5=1 x^2+4x=5 x^2+4x-5 = 0 simplify the quadratic (x+5)(x-1)=0 thus x= 1 or x= -5 this is a really useful video, no time wasting, just a plain black screen and coloured writing on it, practising log equations. Thanks mate.

to help you bacK I WILL NOT SKIP ADS
the equation at 8:29 has a long and a short method. You showed the short method, but the long method consists of
log base 2 (x^2+4x)=log base 2 (5)
put both terms on LHS
log base 2 (x^2+4x) - log base 2 (5) = 0
using log laws
log base 2 [(x^2+4x)/5)=0
2^0 = (x^2+4x)/5=1
x^2+4x=5
x^2+4x-5 = 0
simplify the quadratic
(x+5)(x-1)=0
thus x= 1 or x= -5
this is a really useful video, no time wasting, just a plain black screen and coloured writing on it, practising log equations. Thanks mate.
Who is watching this in 2024😮😊😢

Got an exam tomorrow wish me luck
Mee
thank you brotha this video along with many others on your channel are literally replacing my teachers lectures in my online precal class. You will be one of the reasons that I am gonna be a mechanical engineer.

Thanks

This video helped me so much! I watched this before starting my test and I scored the highest in my class, I believe this video was the one I got a good grade from and I appreciate it so much! ✨

No words for this ......u don't have any idea how thankful I am now😇😇
Thank you so much! This topic has been so confusing for me.
You are better than my math teacher sir
