FWD is a "handling" compromise so cars could be made cheaper ( Mini cooper ). RWD is the real thing. AWD is very boring to drive, specially with the "electronic nannies" preventing you from over stepping the limits. And now the variants...Front engine FWD, ( Maruti ) Front Engine RWD (Innova) , Front Engine AWD (Audi Quattro), Rear engine fwd does not exist ??, Rear engine RWD ( Bugatti, Tata Nano and the gang), Rear engine AWD ( Audi TT ) Then there is a 4WD, which can be activated /deactivated, usually found in Military vehicles. They all have their disadvantages, so none of them are "preferred choices" as it usually depends where these vehicles are used.
